This money will be donated to the Catholic Relief Services. So please join us in our quest to help feed the hungry of our county and world! Youth in Grades 9-12 can participate. Forms are located at stmichaelskalida.org, under the Youth Group tab, and are due to Parish Center by Monday, April 20.

Theology on Tap Returns…

Tuesday, April 22, at Kalida K of C Hall. The first two dates of 2014 were snowed out, so cross your fingers! Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with free food and low cost tap beverages, fol-lowed by a presentation at 7:30 p.m. This is open for every-one over 18, focusing on the youngish at heart. So don’t feel it’s just for the under 30 crowd, by any means. We start with a three–part program: Warm Faith In a Cold Winter, Life Experiences in Faith, and the Resurrection. We aim to have a session each month through the fall, so make this a habit starting this Easter Season.

Knight Knews (Including Easter Egg Hunt) The Knights of Columbus have their annual Easter Egg Hunt coming up on April 19, at 1:00 p.m. All ages are invited to decorate these eggs at the Hall, after Holy Thursday Mass. Also, we’re working hard to bring back a social aspect to the second meeting (Fourth Thursday) of the month. Spouses/girlfriends can assist in the rosary at 7:30 p.m., and then join the Knights for food & social stuff after the meeting. Des-serts welcome! This isn’t just a Lenten thing, but all year around. Let’s build on an old Knightly tradition!

Youth Mass

Sunday, April 27, at 6:00 p.m. All are welcome!

April Youth Group Meetings Sunday, April 13, and Wednesday, April 23, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., at the Parish Center.

Senior Baccalaureate Mass

May 18, at 11:00 a.m. Mass, with luncheon to follow. Invites will be sent to you.

Thanks We’d like to thank all of the volunteers who helped with the Putnam County Relay for Life BBQ Dinner on April 8. Keep us in mind for next year! Thanks!

From the Desk of Fr. Mark

Hi and welcome to Holy Week. For me growing up, Holy Week meant two things: decorating eggs and lots of church time. For our large family, we decorated eggs and lots of them. We would eat two dozen eggs in one sit-ting. So when we colored eggs, it became a family affair so we could finish the project before Easter morn-ing. Some eggs were just dumped into the color to get it over with. Others were drawn on with crayons from school. Easter scenes were colored that included crosses, lilies and sunrises. Rabbits and seals (Easter Seals...we thought we were so original) were drawn on other eggs. Each person was in charge of making their own personalized egg with their name on it. Other eggs were striped, polka dotted and tie dyed, which were really cool. By the end of the day, we had the whole kitchen table full of color, fun and excitement for everyone. On Easter, those eggs were hidden on the lawn, in bushes, up on tree branches, in the mailbox, on the clothes line pole or anywhere imaginable. Some eggs were easy to find. While for others, we had to play the hot and cold game to finally discover where the hider placed the egg. The whole egg ritual fit into the Church ritual, also. Church took a lot of time. There were times that it was like we were just dumped there...to get it over with. Those times usually happened when we were in our teens. It seemed like there sure were better things to do than be in church on a spring day. But even going with this attitude helped create a full table of blessings. Small inconveniences were nothing to what Jesus did for us on the cross. Like Peter at the Transfiguration, it is good that we are here, even if we don't appreciate it until later. Coming to church for more noble and beautiful reasons made Holy Week more special. All the symbols of the days stuck with me for a lifetime. The washing of feet, kissing of the cross, an outdoor fire, lighting of candles and ringing of bells made the Lord's journey during Holy Week more memorable. Just as we colored eggs in a vari-ety of styles, the symbols made more sense the more we encountered them. Each person encounters the Lord dif-ferently during this week. Just as we had personalized eggs, the Lord touches us as individuals and as a commu-nity. There are times when the Lord is easy to find, as in the resurrection. While at other times it is hard to fathom the Lord suffering and dying for us. Just as in a table full of eggs, there is a lot to take in, so it is with Holy Week. Plan on some serious church time this Holy Week. How do I make a return to the Lord for all the good He has done for me? Spend time with Him. Have a great week—a great Holy Week—with the Lord and with the family of believers around the world. Fr. Mark
