Dear Friends, Happy Easter! I want to thank you all for the beautiful, solemn and prayerful Holy Triduum. Many weeks of praying, sacrificing, planning, organizing and volunteering for this moment have come together to mark the high point of our Liturgical Calendar. I am grateful to all of you who have generously placed your talents at the service of God, so that we may offer him praise and reverence that is truly noble and dignified – lifting our hearts up with the heavenly choirs of angels. Above all it is a great privilege for me to welcome our newly baptized catechumens into the Church. For you all, this truly is a moment to proclaim victory over sin, resurrection from the death to the newness of life, the journey is not complete it is simply new – radically new! And I would like to direct the words that follow particularly to you, in hopes that the rest of us, who have been baptized for a much longer time, can renew our faith by the testimony of your faith. There is something calm and serene about Easter Sunday. The Easter candle is the perfect image your faith – a light shining in the darkness. Do not let it go out! The light of faith is the most important thing that we have. The whiteness and purity of your baptismal garment is worth dying to protect. You have been washed clean, anointed and sent at this moment in your life to fulfill your baptismal promises, which simply stated means you are now a child of God, in a deeper and more profound way. The light given to you (and to the rest of us baptized, i.e., the church) is not meant for you alone, but was given for the good of the whole world. And St. Paul teaches how Christians are inheritors of revelation, and as “stewards of God’s grace” Christians are called to make known that revelation to every generation to every corner of the earth. Pope Benedict, a few years back spoke of an eclipsing of light. “An eclipse of reason has taken place. That man no longer uses his intellect in search of God, but is driven by his passions and desire for self-gratification…the sun is setting over an entire world.” We may ask, if God’s light has been revealed to the nations, why is there so much darkness in the world? Why is there so much unbelief and faithlessness and division? With so much darkness in the world, what happens is that many people, in fact, do conclude that God doesn’t exist. There is an easy dismissal of that faith, that it ought to be relegated to the past. Many, especially among youth, believe that Christianity has nothing to say to them. You newly baptized members of the church, I hope that you can now say to these people and the rest of us who have perhaps allowed the light to grow dim or have placed it under a bushel basket that the light of Christ burns bright! For the rest of us, we may ask ourselves, do we allow his light to illuminate our whole life? Do I share His light as I should? Do I walk in his light as I should? Do the rejections and promises of my baptism guide my actions? Jesus Christ was crucified, died and rose from the dead, this must give us great hope! This is the pattern we must all follow. God’s love is the light, and in the end, it is the only light that can always illuminate a world grown dim. So, let the light of Christ shine in your lives, in your homes, so that the joy of the risen Lord may truly be experienced by all. Mary, Our Lady of Peace, pray for us,

Fr. Brian Dinkel, IVE

Why was Jesus rejected by the religious leaders of his day? Who was responsible for his death? Did he establish a Church to carry on his work? How did Jesus view his suffering and death? How should we? And, most importantly, did Jesus really rise from the dead and what does his resurrection

mean? The story of Jesus raises these and other crucial questions.

Pope Emeritus Benedict brings to his study the vast learning of a brilliant scholar, the passionate searching of a great mind, and the deep compassion of a pastor's heart. In the end, he dares readers to grapple with the meaning of Jesus' life, teaching, death, and resurrection. Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week: From the Entrance into Jerusalem to the Resurrection challenges both believers and unbelievers to decide who Jesus of Nazareth is and what he means for them.

We also carry a variety of gift bags, invitations, thank you notes and party goods – Supplies are limited so don’t wait until the last minute!
