THE PASSPORTS RULES, 1980

of the Passports

Act, 1967

1967), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely:

1.

Short title

and

commencement.-(I) These rules may be called the

Rules, 1980.

(2)

Theyshall come into force from the date

oftheir publication in the

cial Gazette.

2. Definitions.-In

theseRules, unless thecontext otherwise requires,

"miscellaneousservice",inrelationtoapassport or traveldocument

includes-

varyingtheentriesina passportor travel

making addit ional endorsement on a passpor t or t ravel

issuingafreshpassportbookletwhen thepages inthe booklet

held arealmostexhausted;or]

(iv) any other service

in

respectof a passportor travel document

whichtheholderthereofmayrequire;

(d) "Schedule"meansa Scheduleappended to theseRules;

(e) "section" meansasectionof theAct.

3. Passport authorities.-(I) In addition to the CentralGovernment, the

cers specified in column (2) ofScheduleIshall,subjectin the provisionsof

(2), be the passportauthorities for all purposesof the Act and these

issue of a passport or travel document, exercise jurisdiction in respect of

chissuemadeby personsordinarily residing inthe territories

4. Classesof personsto

issueofpassportortraveldocumentorforanyserviceon apassport

ortrnveldocumentalreadyheldby him,asthecasemaybe;

(ii) if thefee paid

inexcessofthe prescribedfee; and

(iii) if thefee

isforaserviceforwhichno fee

has

beenprescribed.

11. Formsof passportor traveldocument.-Apassportortraveldocument

issued under the Act shallbe in the appropriate form set

out

in Part III of

Schedulelll:
