    Power Supply

A power supply unit(PSU) convertsmains ACto low-voltage regulatedDC powerforthe internal components of a computer. Modern personal computers universally use aswitched-mode power supply. Some power supplies have a manual selector for inputvoltage, while others automatically adapt to the supply voltage.

Most modern desktop personal computer power supplies conform to theATXspecification, which includes form factor and voltage tolerances. While an ATX powersupply is connected to the mains supply, it always provides a 5 V standby (5VSB)voltage so that the standby functions on the computer and certain peripherals arepowered. ATX power supplies are turned on and off by a signal from themotherboard. They also provide a signal to the motherboard to indicate when the DC voltages are inspec, so that the computer is able to safely power up and boot. The most recent ATXPSU standard is version 2.31 of mid-2008.

    CPU

The basic function of the CPU, or Central Processing Unit of a computer is to perform all of the

calculations which are required in order for the computer to properly function. The CPU is

sometimes referred to as the brain of the computer, and a computer cannot function without it.

The function of the CPU (Centeral Processing Unit) is to perform operations which make your

computer run. At one point or another, EVERY bit (8 bits = 1 byte) of data goes through the

    CPU and is processed

    Memory

Without memory, a computer would only be able to perform a specific set of functions orfixed operations, producing immediate results such as that of a calculator. As part of thebasic computer model since the 1940s, the ability to retain information has been afundamental component of modern computing devices. Retained information, whencoordinated with the computer's central processing unit, makes the personal computermore than only a calculator. And the PC memory card, originally designed as anelectronic hardware storage device and evolving into a compact versatile device fordigital data memory, facilitates the core functions of the computers we use today. mobile/digital camera hs memory card for data storage like music, pictures, videos etc........sameas ur hard disk in 1 gb,2gb etc...

microsd, flash cards are different memory cars..nowadays all mobiles have micro sd....mostdigital cams have flash......these memory cards can also be used as pendrives if u need...thatsall i hope u have know better by now...why the slot is provided...

    DVD Burner

An external DVD burner is an optical drive that connects to a computer via anexpansion port -- most often, a USB port. External DVD burners work with most

computers and operating systems, and give computers the ability to read and recorddata on CD and DVD discs. If you have an older computer or a notebook with no opticaldrive, an external DVD burner can be a worthwhile upgrade. An external DVD burner isan optical drive that connects to a computer via an expansion port -- most often, a USBport. External DVD burners work with most computers and operating systems, and givecomputers the ability to read and record data on CD and DVD discs. If you have anolder computer or a notebook with no optical drive, an external DVD burner can be aworthwhile upgrade.

Media Playback And Software InstallationAn external DVD burner has the ability to play DVD videos and audio CDs. You can

also use one to install software purchased from a computer or electronics store. Thiscapability is particularly useful on very thin notebook computers, which often do notinclude internal optical drives.

Backup DeviceDVD-Rs are inexpensive, costing pennies each when purchased in bulk. An externalDVD burner is an effective backup device, enabling you to copy the most important fileson your computer to discs and retain them in the event of a computer crash. Becausean external DVD burner is not tethered permanently to an individual computer, you canuse one burner to back up the most important data on all of the computers in yourhome.

Portable StorageMost computers have internal DVD drives or burners, enabling you to bring data fromone computer to another on the discs that you burn with an external DVD burner. If youneed to transfer files to a computer without a DVD drive, simply bring the external DVDburner from one computer to the other. Using multiple DVDs, you can transfer a virtuallyunlimited amount of data in a short time.

Simple UpgradeAn external DVD burner is a simple upgrade for an older computer that does not havethe ability to burn DVDs. Recent Windows versions require no device drivers for mostDVD burners, making an external DVD burner a plug-and-play upgrade that requires nocomputer upgrade experience. If you have a desktop computer and are nervous about

opening the case to install an internal DVD burners, consider an external model instead

    Video Card

A video card is a computer chip you usually insert into your computer via a AGP slotinside of your computer (usually the same thing a sound card is in) the purpose of which

to process images. if a computer does not have a video card the computer has to splitthe processing power between everything. but with a video card, the card processes thevideo instead of the computer, so you have better performance and better graphics onpretty much anythingA video card(also called a video adapter, display card, graphics card, graphics board, display adapteror graphics adapter) is anexpansion cardwhich generates a feed of output images to a display. Most video cardsoffer various functions such as accelerated rendering of3Dscenes2Dgraphics,MPEG-2/MPEG-4 decoding, TV output, or the ability to connect multiple monitors (multi-monitor).

Video hardware can be integrated into themotherboardor (as with more recent

designs) theCPU,but all modern motherboards (and some from the 1990s) provideexpansion ports to which a video card can be attached. In this configuration it issometimes referred to as a video controlleror graphics controller. Modern low-end tomid-range motherboards often include a graphics chipset manufactured by thedeveloper of thenorthbridge(e.g. anAMDchipset withRadeongraphics or anIntelchipset with Intel graphics) on the motherboard. This graphics chip usually has a smallquantity of embedded memory and takes some of the system's main RAM, reducing thetotal RAM available. This is usually called integrated graphicsor on-board graphics, and

    Motherboard

A motherboard is also known as a main board, system board and logic board. Acommon abbreviation is 'mobo'. They can be found in a variety of electrical devices, ranging from a TV to a computer. Generally, they will be referred to as a motherboard ora main board when associated with a complex device such as a computer, which iswhat we shall look at. Put simply, it is the central circuit board of your computer. Allother components and peripherals plug into it, and the job of the motherboard is to relay

information between them all. Despite the fact that a better motherboard will not add tothe speed of your PC, it is none-the-less important to have one that is both stable andreliable, as its role is vital.

A motherboard houses the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), which is the simplesoftware run by a computer when initially turned on. Other components attach directly toit, such as the memory, CPU (Central Processing Unit), graphics card, sound card,hard-drive, disk drives, along with various external ports and peripherals.

    Keyboard

the keyboard is used to type text and numbers into a word processor, text editor or other

program. In a modern computer, the interpretation of keypresses is generally left to the

software. A computer keyboard distinguishes each physical key from every other and reports all

keypresses to the controlling software. Keyboards are also used for computer gaming, either

with regular keyboards or by using keyboards with special gaming features, which can expedite

frequently used keystroke combinations. A keyboard is also used to give commands to the

operating system of a computer, such as Windows' Control-Alt-Delete combination, which brings

up a task window or shuts down the machine. Most computer keyboards have a molded

plastic exterior and a series of plastic keys that move independently. Small plastic

brackets anchor these keys in place on top of a circuit board that is covered in a

watertight rubber membrane. The vast majority of keyboard manufacturers use a design

featuring small rubber domes underneath each key. The sides of these domes are

flexible enough to allow easy key pressing but firm enough to force each key back to its

original position after pressing. The centers of these domes are rigid and often made of

carbon, which allows them to complete separated electrical circuits when they are

pressed. A separate circuit is positioned under each key on the circuit board. Some of

the pricier keyboards feature a more durable design with more precise keystroke

abilities. Called capacitive keyboards, these designs do not feature electrical circuits

that are ever actually completed. Instead, the keyboard matrix is fed a constant stream

of electricity that is evenly distributed among the keys. When a key is pressed, anelectrode on the underside of the key is moved closer to a larger circuit panel

underneath, causing a surge in power in that one section of the keyboard matrix.

Though the circuit never fully completes, the keyboard is capable of recognizing a

power surge and pinpointing its location on the matrix

    Mouse

A device that controls the movement of the cursor or pointer on a

display screen. A mouse is a small object you can roll along a hard,

flat surface. Its name is derived from its shape, which looks a bit like a

mouse, its connecting wire that one can imagine to be the mouse's

tail, and the fact that one must make it scurry along a surface. As youmove the mouse, the pointer on the display screen moves in the same

direction. Mice contain at least one button and sometimes as many as

three, which have different functions depending on what program is

running. Some newer mice also include a scroll wheel for scrolling

through long documents.A mouse is a handheld pointing device used to

position a cursor on a computer screen. This allows the user to select items

stored on a computer and, subsequently, perform actions on those items.

    System unit

System Unit:A system unit, also known as a base unit, is the main body of a desktopcomputer, typically consisting of a metal or (rarely) plastic enclosure containing the

motherboard, power supply, cooling fans, internal disk drives, and the memory modules andexpansion cards that are plugged into the motherboard, such as video and network cards.Inside each case there is a main electronic board, called the motherboard that houses the

    Speaker

The computer speaker is an output device which gives the user auditory feedback regarding the

state of the computer. This can be as sophisticated as a 8-channel surround-sound system for

playing movies and the like, or as basic as the integrated "beeper speaker" whos only role isindicate critical errors in the boot sequence when video output is not available.
