Raspberry Pi Young Digital Maker’s Project
• societal challenge digital literacy underpins all industry sectors, but digital exclusion of the City’s young people facing socio-economic disadvantage
• the project 100 young people receive digital gift: 1 year of training + Raspberry Pi, skills & learning cascaded to 1000 peers
• Forging alliances & cross disciplinary working SDS, O2, Glasgow Science Centre, SQA (JP Morgan, TBC)
• the ‘wider public’ & media hook – huge public demand for & interest in mobile apps (“word of the year” 2010), Scotland's digital sector awarded £6.6m by government
• benefits to communities – Mapped to CfE, raise sector awareness, Over 100 young people gain digital /work readiness skills, legacy of trained industry mentors, 1000 additional young people learn from peers, reduce inequality in employment

Guinness World Record Attempt Largest Hand Hygiene Lesson
19th March 2014
• the project a simultaneous hand hygiene lesson offered to all primary school children (~6,000 children) delivered by 180 student nurses, flashmob to raise awareness
• forging alliances & cross disciplinary working public, students, cross disciplinary partners, Media, Maplin Electronics
• the ‘wider public’ & media hook a global knit-a-thon of over 1000 knitted microbes via social media campaign (400 website views a month to 9000), media interest– Daily Record, STV, Evening Times (even celebrity Tweeters!)
• benefits to communities legacy pack for schools, educate & entertain public about practical hand hygiene, community participation, positive impact on infection control
– the project a one day badge bash for uniformed groups with a choice of science activities to engage, inform and inspire:
• Space and Astronomy planets, stars, rocket building and planetarium
• Nature and Conservation explore nature soil, earthworms, water and other wee beasties
• Human Body measure up against Commonwealth athletes, jump, sprint, and cycle @ the Body Works exhibition
• Photography Glasgow City of Science, Camera, Action
• 3D science movie in the IMAX cinema the largest screen in Scotland
– forging alliances & cross disciplinary working uniformed groups, GSC, Cineworld, expert facilitators (staff and students )from GCU, University of Glasgow and University of the West of Scotland, the Volunteers Trust & the Field Studies Council
