About MeI’m Victoria and at the moment I am only doing general studies. I’m thinking of studying either social work, psychology or criminal justice.

I chose this political cartoon because I feel it is very fitting of current politics.

Motivation for Participation

I have only become interested in politics in the last few years so I’ve only voted this past election. The reason I am so passionate about exercising my right to vote now is that many fought so hard to allow me this right and it’s very important to want to make things better for society as a whole, especially for our children.

What I’d really like to see change is for government officials to be more open to compromise and to see a change in political corruption. Mainly, how we see how money influences the election process and keeps certain people in control.

What I’d like to see stay the same are interest groups. I’ve seen the influence that they can have on raising public awareness on very important issues that need to be addressed.

Things I learned about the Federal Government Processes:

Something that I learned that I didn’t know was all of the things that Congress is responsible for.

I would like to know more about the Supreme Court since they have so much power to change our society.

Something that I didn’t expect to learn about was lobbying.

Impacting Future Generations

One very important issue for me that I think we need to consider is for both parties to learn to compromise instead of campaigning against each other for the sake of “winning”. We need to be practical on social issues and use critical thinking so we can leave a better world to our children.

Most Important Amendment

Freedom of Speech is the most important amendment to me because it allows us to voice our concerns on issues that truly affect our society. I think this is so important because we are allowed this freedom and it has the power to shape government policy unlike others under different governments of the world.

What I’ll Carry With Me:

The thing that I will carry with me throughout my life is that my voice does matter. My vote will count and it is my right and my duty to do what I need to do to make this country better. I will participate more in politics because I know how important it is

for our society and I also want to raise my kids to know that they can make a difference. It all started somewhere.
