PART-1 This ebook looks at the history of the Institute of Plumbing and the plumbing industry with a selection of illustrations and information from the CIBSE Heritage Group Archives. It began with the Institute of Plumbers which, though founded in 1906, had historical links with the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, created in 1365 and which opened a Register of Plumbers in 1886 (the history of the Company is outlined in a separate ebook, under Organisations, on the Heritage Group website). In 1925, the commercial aspects of the Institute of Plumbers were taken over by the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors. The Institute of Plumbing (IOP) was established in 1957 and in 1970 it took on management of the Register of Plumbers.
