ECD HIGHLIGHTS

They measured less than an inch When they joined our crew,

Over time, they grew and grew, ‘מה רבו מעשיך ה

We truly enjoyed watching them, From caterpillar to butterfly,

A Peek Into Our Week:

Boys’ Gym Classes: The year in review by Mr. Durham: We had an exciting and fun year in Gym class. The boys enjoyed soccer, foul shooting and 3 point shooting con-tests, obstacle courses, Olympic day, monthly fitness day and monthly agility contests. Once we stepped away from all the competitions, we saw 1B - 3B master doing push ups and running up to 5 laps. Grades 4B - 5B finished the year working and playing hard with smiles. 6B-8B found their hidden talents at volleyball, even though basketball seemed to be sport of choice. It was nice to see students who don't normally play basketball participating and enjoying the sport. I can’t end without letting you know how much the new score board really made a difference. It made all the games more intense, because the score was constant-ly displayed and watching the clock run down gave the students more incentive to work until the last second. I wish the 8th grade good luck in high school and I'll see the rest of you in school next year. The 4th grade boys’ trip to the Meadow-lands Environmental Center involved a hike through some of the unique saltwater marshlands nearby. The boys learned just how "green" a house could be by planting the right trees, which exposure the windows should face to maximize sunlight in the winter and reduce cooling costs in the summer. They then broke into teams, each responsible for a different aspect of constructing a working model of a "green-energy efficient" house. Lastly, but not the least, the instructor who guided the boys commented on how wonderfully behaved and how well they worked on the project.

Rabbi Rajchgod’s Kitah Vav: We are learning פרק החובל, which deals with the הלכות of when one person damages another and the five different payments which one may be obligated to pay. We are learning many interesting דינים and concepts. We were introduced to a מה מצינו, which is a way to learn things by comparison, in addition to the גזירה שוה and היקש tools that we were already familiar with. In חומש, we celebrated a סיום on פרשת קדושים, are well into פרשת אמר and are also nearing completion of our Shas Word program, which we will celebrate with a major סעודה. All in all, major accomplishments have been achieved by the sixth grade boys this year! Mrs. Paul’s Fifth Grade Class: We took a trip to the Liberty Hall Museum to explore Gov. Livingston’s mansion that was built before the Revolution-ary War. Some of the boys had the opportunity to try out some old fashioned toys, they toured the old time kitchen, saw the grooves in the banisters from the swords of the British soldiers and learned about the history of the battles involved. The boys also “ice dyed” T- shirts to go with their lessons on changing states of matter.

Mrs. Platt’s Art Classes: Here is a small sampling of the amazing artwork that our YBH students are creating here at school. These drawings were done by two boys, Eitan Shulman and Amos Heching, who are new to having an art connection at YBH, however both have obvious talent! The 2nd Annual Night of the Arts will be held on Wednes-day, June 1st in the evening. The boys artwork, from their art enrichment class, will be set up in the lobby. The girls artwork will be displayed in the lunchroom. There will be a program that night for all YBH girls and their mothers.
