In abstract art, you do not see specific objects. Abstract artists feel that their art doesn,t have to show only things that are recognizable. Their paintings they do not try to show people, animals, or places exactly as they appear in the real world. They mainly use colour and shape in their paitings to show emotions. Cubism is modern art made up mostly of paitings. The paitings are not supposed to look real. The artist uses geometric shapes to show what he is trying to paint. Early cubists used mainly grey, brown, green, and yellow. After 1914, cubists started to use brighter colors. Cubism was the beginning of the abstract are styles. Impressionism was developed in France during the late 9th and early 20th centuries.

The paintings were usually in bold colors and did not have a lot of detail. The paintings were like landscapes.

Claude Monet was a founder of French impressionist painting. The term Impressionism is derived from Sunrise.

Postimpressionism began in the 9th century. It was mainly still lives and landscapes. The postimprssionists liked to use lots of color and shadows. Most of Vincent van Gogh, s works were in the Postimpressionist style.

Pop art can be any everyday item that is drawn in a brash and colourful way. It is based on comic strips. One of the leaders of the pop art movement is Andy Warhol.

The pop art piece shown is Marilyan Monroe, one of the most famous American movie stars in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Realism is a type of art that tries to show things exactly as they appear in life. Most realists were from France. Leonardo Da Vinci was born in an Italian town called Vinci. He lived in a time period called the Renaissance. He was a scluptor, a scientist, an inventor, an architect, a musician, and a matematician.
