Move businesses like the pawn shop, laundrymat, dollar store off Craig Street and encourage more unique gift stores, bistro, outside patio dining etc. Parksville could also use a small theatre, lounge, and an affordable pub/restaurant on the beachfront. Again, look to Qualicum for inspiration. There is so much potential to beautify Parksville. We do not need box stores or high rise apartments. This is known as a beach town let us keep that in mind when developing. I think that the reason people are upset with the Beach Club is because it is not keeping with the west coast style. It should never have been allowed to be built so high. Qualicum will never have high rises on their beach. The beach belongs to everyone! Be selective of whom we allow to develop here. Do not "pave paradise and put up a parking lot!" A bike path connecting Parksville and Qualicum would be greatly utilized.

May 28, 2010 6:48 PM Immediately addressing the need to invest in protecting Parksville's most critical natural areas for wildlife habitat and access to nature. Securing these areas would have only a limited outright cost, but would provide vast benefits to the community. Growing up in Parksville, our rich natural environment with its diversity and abundance of birdlife has been central to quality of life. I do not want to see this lost. We must act to change what is in conflict with conservation in Parksville. Our current zoning and insufficient allocation of resources for preservation of natural habitat will not preserve species and ecosystems in our community. We need to do something different. We need to invest in protecting our forests and wetlands. Parksville is located within a region of national significance for the diversity of ecosystems it contains, but only some of these ecosystems have been protected. We need to protect our wetlands and more of our upland forest to maintain Parksville’s natural environment, our species and ecosystems.
