Scrumdiddlyumptious! On Friday 13th March, Year 3 had a
chocolate themed Design
Technology morning.
Following their English unit on
instructions/recipes linked to our
class reader 'Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory', they made their
own chocolate bars!
The children designed and made their own labels;
made a bar of chocolate
with toppings including
sprinkles, biscuits, dried
fruit, marshmallows and
smarties; and
developed advertising
in the form of posters, songs and adverts. It required
a lot of willpower from the children not to try their
chocolate bars before they showed them to their
families at the end of the day!

TimesTables Rockstars Party Last week, Brunel
and Helen Keller
classes enjoyed their
TT Rockstars party to
celebrate being their
phase’s champions
in this year’s Park
Primary TT Rock
Stars Championship.
A huge thank
you to the
families for
helping the
rock stars with
their
costumes.
Remember,
being
confident in
knowing multiplication tables is vital to support
progress in most areas of maths, so pupils should be
encouraged to practise regularly at
www.ttrockstars.com, or by downloading the free
app.

Geography Bee 2020 On Wednesday
4th March, four
children went to
Elmhurst
Primary School
for the Newham
Geography Bee.
Because of our
hard work and
practise, WE WON!
Each question had
four options or a
free answer. For
example the
question, “What is
Mekong?” had the
options: hill, valley, river or glacier. (The answer’s
river).
Two rounds were held, the qualifications round and
the finals. In the final round we got full marks in the
missing vowels questions and we brought home the
trophy. A hat-trick for Park Primary School!
After an intense tie breaker, we even won the
reserves match.
Year 4s, do you have what it takes to keep our title?
If so, start practising now.
For now there’s only one thing to say - Belg (Mr
Walker’s new word).

Park’s Book Day There were lots of exciting events happening at
school during the week of World Book Day.
World Book Day Costumes
World Book Day proved to be
a great success – the children
were able to bring to life the
characters that they
have been reading
about. It was
exciting to see all the
amazing costumes
and to see how
creative the children
and the adults had been. The children were able to
share their costumes with the rest of the school at a
parade, where the whole school got together.
We also announced the winners of the creative
costume competition.
Book Fair
We would like to thank all the
parents, carers and family
members who supported the
book fair which proved to be
such a great success. We raised
approximately £2000 to spend
on books for the school which is
amazing.
Buddy Reading
The children also had a great time buddy reading
with a partner class.
Story in a Jar
As part of World
Book Day, we
asked children
to create a story
in a jar. There
were many
amazing entries.
Here are the children who won the competition.
Parents in to read
It was also great to see lots of parents and carers in
school reading with their children.
Ms Chandrarajah
We would like to thank everyone, especially Ms
Chandrarajah for making it such a great week.

COVID-19 Update We continue to follow advice received from the
Department for Education and Public Health
England. This includes encouraging good hygiene.
We are also discouraging close contact wherever
possible, including refraining from hand shakes.
Should your child’s class teacher self-isolate, we will
inform you of that.
Currently, there is no guidance directing us to close
the school and therefore we continue to operate as
usual. We are, however, beginning to make
contingency plans should this guidance change, in
order that we can continue to make provision for
your child’s education to the best of our ability.
We are asking that parents and carers who do not
have access to internet enabled devices at home, let
their child’s class teacher know.
Please remember that staff, parents and young
people can contact the DfE’s Coronavirus helpline as
follows:
Phone: 0800 046 8687
Email: [email protected]
Opening hours: 8am to 6pm (Monday to Friday)

Thunks to get you Thinking!
Key Stage 1 Thunk
Key Stage 2 Thunk
Thought for the Week
Learning Power Focus
This month we are using
‘Exploring Elephant’ to remind
us to be curious about the
world around us. When we talk
about being curious, we want to:
wonder, question, explore, experiment, try and take
risks.
You can show your teacher that you are an Exploring
Elephant’ by:
● asking questions;
● noticing things;
● thinking of reasons;
● asking, “What if…?” “Why…?” “Who….?
“When….? “Where…?”;
● trying new things;
● and looking for patterns and connections.
Current Affairs
What would you find hard about starting again?
Turkey opened its borders for Syrian refugees to
leave its territory for Europe at the end of
February. So far hundreds of thousands have left
Turkey. Many Syrians have fled their home
country, following dangerous conditions and fighting
due to the ongoing civil war there. Fife Council
in Scotland has one of the highest rates of
resettlement for Syrian refugees in the UK. During
the increasingly unsettled situation in Syria, Fife are
wanting to help more families and have said they
will continue to welcome many more families this
year.
Things to talk about at home...
● Have you always lived where you live now? If
not, talk about what it was like moving. If you
moved to a different place, talk about what
that was like.
● What do you think might be some of the
challenges of moving to a different country?
