SOMEONE HELP – PLEASE!! We KNOW there are some lovely people in our two villages just waiting for the Invitation to help clean the church. You don't believe us? Well, firstly, here's the invitation. PLEASE could you volunteer to take a regular but not too frequent turn at cleaning St Mary's? We did say please. You won't be on your own. You will have another lovely person to help you do the job. We would like to be able to report in the next issue that people have been flocking to ring Cherrie Dawson on 824713 ....... Thank you for reading this very urgent plea. Don't leave us in suspense!

THE 2017 BISHOP’S HARVEST APPEAL, ‘FULL OF BEANS’, is supporting the development of community projects which trans-form the lives of people in remote rural villages of the Philippines – in the Tinglayan mountain district, they have discovered their soil is perfect for growing high quality beans. Helen (pictured) now enjoys a generous harvest of beans, suffi-cient for her family to eat well, with more to sell at market. Consequently, her family’s life has improved significantly, they are able to buy basic house-hold items such as salt, sugar and soap, her children also now have the required educa-tional resources for their schooling. They look forward to a much brighter future.

With your support to this year’s Harvest Appeal, ‘Full of Beans’, we hope that many more families can experience this transformational change, become self-reliant, filled with dignity and hopeful for their future.

How to give: Churches and Schools participating in this year’s Harvest Appeal, should send the total of donations collected, including any Gift Aid reclaimed, either: By cheque – made payable to St Albans DBF, accompanied by the Harvest Appeal

Donation Form. Please post these to ‘The Bishop of St Albans’ Harvest Appeal

2017′ c/o Holywell Lodge, 41 Holywell Hill, St Albans AL1 1HE.

method, please firstly email: [email protected]

WI Denise Canning

On a perfect summer evening, Kimbolton Castle was the chosen destination for our August social meeting.

The castle has a rich and fascinating history that has seen it develop from a wooden motte and bailey castle in Norman times into the 18th century building it is today. It was the family seat of the Dukes of Manchester from 1615-1950, and is most famous as the final home of King Henry V111's first wife, Queen Katherine of Aragon. Since 1950 the castle has been home to Kimbolton School.

There is also a folly, Warren House, which has been restored by the Landmark Trust; it is on a hill overlooking the castle, and is now used as a holiday let.

After our very interesting tour of the castle, Kimbolton WI provided a wonder-ful 2 course buffet supper in the village hall, where we had time to chat and catch up. Sue thanked Kimbolton WI and then surprised Sylvia with some flow-ers and a cake (made by May), an early celebration for her 'big' birthday on Sunday 27th August.

Our meeting on Tuesday 19th September is open to all. The speaker is Chris Bylett, one of the top ten ventriloquists in the country. So if you feel like a night out come along, refreshments will be provided!

ST PETER’S CHURCH, SHARNBROOK GARAGE SALE SAFARI FOR CHURCH FUNDS, SAT 9th SEPTEMBER, 10AM - 2PM In the Garage Sale Safari, a number of people will be holding a Garage Sale on the same day. Maps will be on sale from 9am on the day at St Peter’s Room (adjoining the Church) for £1.

ACTIVI-TEA is coming to Sharnbrook! Are you a Carer looking after someone with dementia or some other condition?

Would you welcome the opportunity to meet with other Carers knowing the person you care for is enjoying activities in a safe and friendly environment?

Churches Together in Sharnbrook is working with the Tibbs Dementia Foundation to set up a group in Sharnbrook called ACTIVI-TEA, offering support for Carers and life-enhancing

experiences for Cared-For. Tibbs Dementia Foundation already run groups like this in the Bedford area and their trained staff will be responsible for providing activities for the Cared-For, while the Carers have the chance to have tea and chat together. Carers will also be welcome to come on their own. There will be the opportunity for one-to-one conversations with an experienced counsellor. The group will meet on alternate Tuesday afternoons at 2.30pm, at the Methodist Church in Park Lane, commencing on 3rd October.

If you are interested in finding out more you are invited to a meeting on Tuesday 19th September at 2.30pm at the Methodist Church

at which Sarah Russell, Tibbs CEO, will explain what we are planning.

For more information contact the group’s Co-ordinator, Linda Hoar 07791214148.
