Living the Paschal Mystery
Fifth Sunday of Easter
April 23 & 24, 2016
In so many ways we already act out of the love that Jesus
commands in this gospel. We need only to do the everyday
things we are already doing with new meaning: we share in
Jesus mission when we love others as he loves us. If, howev-
er, an examination of our lives suggests that perhaps we are
not so self-giving and loving as Jesus, then this gospel is an
invitation to love more completely. What is at stake is a share
in Jesus’ everlasting Life and glory. This Life and glory is so
worth loving for!

From the Religious Ed Office: Congratulations, First Communicants! Over these
next 3 weekends, 88 young people in our parish will
celebrate receiving Jesus in the Eucharist for the very
first time. We invite all of our parish family to keep them in prayer
and to join us in congratulating them. Do you remember your First
Communion Day?
Registration for Religious Education, 2016-17, is in full
swing. Current RE families need to get registration forms in
now. On May 1, the Religious Education page will be updated to
include registration forms for the upcoming year. All RE students
must be from families registered as members of SMOS parish. If
your child will be school age (Kindergarten through 8th grade) and
attends any non-Catholic school, they should be enrolled in and at-
tending parish Religious Education classes. All class information,
days, times, and registration materials are listed in the parish web-
site, on the Religious Education page. All forms and payments are
due back to the Religious Education Office no later than August 15,
2016. It is best to register early to ensure your preferred class
day. We had 420 children in the program this year and classes do
fill up quickly.
Looking to become more involved in your child’s religious edu-
cation? Have you thought about becoming a catechist or classroom
aide? We are always looking for parishioners who are willing to
share their love and knowledge of our Catholic faith with our young
people. If you think that you may be called to this important parish
ministry, contact Madeline Romano at the Religious Education of-
fice.
Congratulations to the 90 young ladies and gentlemen who will be

Diocese News Are you Being Called to God? St. John tells us in the Book of Revelation that he heard a loud voice
from God’s throne saying “Behold, God’s dwelling is with the hu-
man race.” All of us are called to be signs of God’s dwelling with
us. Some are called to do that in a specific way, serving Christ and
His Church as a priest, a deacon, a religious sister or a religious
brother. If you think God is calling you to a religious vocation, and
if you’re ready to talk about it, please call or write Father Norman
Carroll, Diocesan Director of Priestly and Religious Vocations (302-
573-3113, [email protected]). Be sure to visit our website:

Marriage Moments "Love one another." (John 13:35) You're married. Of course
you love your spouse. But Jesus keeps repeating this com-
mand to love. Perhaps it is because love is never finished. Look for a
new opportunity to show your love today. Surprise your beloved.
Parenting Pointers Gratitude can be an overused word these days, but that doesn't
mean we should neglect it. Play a "Gratitude Game" with your child.
See if each of you can list 10 things you're grateful for today. If
something bad happens, see if you can find a silver lining.

Fifth Sunday of Easter April 24th
In a familiar Gospel reading, this week we hear a
new commandment; “Love one another.” Bring It Home this week
by brainstorming the many ways family members can follow this
commandment. Write each idea down on a slip of paper. Put the
papers in a jar or basket. Each day this week choose a slip and do it.
Can you feel the difference when everyone is consciously loving
each other?
