This Week’s Reflection
Hello everyone! My name is Jessy Mottram Noé. I have recently been appointed Pastoral Associate
and it’s such a joy to start this new journey at St. Wilfrid’s Parish. A bit about myself:
I am originally from Honduras, in Central America. My native language is Spanish. My studies include Business Management and a Masters in Marketing. I have lived in Lanzarote, Canary Islands and in the UK for four and a half years now. My passions include my family, travelling, dancing, and meeting new people. I was born into an amazing Catholic family as the youngest of three children. My grandmother’s and parents’ love, faith and examples of solidarity and compassion towards everyone they met were a huge inspiration for me. continued over……….

The simple experience of growing up around such examples was immensely gratifying and made an unequalled impression on me as well as my vision of the future; my life changed completely. My volunteering experiences started in Honduras working in HIV-AIDS Centres, nursing homes, orphanages, rural schools and with the Missionaries of Charity, the Order founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta. In 2012 I decided to take a step further. I quit my job, left my home country and volunteered for one year at the Leonard Cheshire Disability Centre in Woolton. I am happily married to Karl, my favourite Scouser, for 5 years now. (Yes, now you can understand how I ended up here!) Whilst living here, I have helped at the Missionaries of Charity, the ACROSS UK Pilgrimage to Lourdes, and Marriage Care. I have always been actively involved in my local parishes. My love for the Catholic Church combined with my desire to learn and to work towards its development has brought me here today. I thank God for how He has worked in my life. It's such a blessing to be serving in this new mission and I look forward to working together with each one of you. I pray that as we begin this journey together, it might be a Blessed Journey. Or as we say in Spanish: “¡Buen Camino!”

Cosy Homes
There are lots of ways that we can make our
homes warmer and more eco-friendly.
These can be big things, such a wall and loft
insulation, but also small things too:
• Try carefully moving along the edges
of each room to feel for any drafts and
where they might be coming from in
order to eliminate them.
• Draft excluders can be great for
draughty doorways.
• Getting a rug on wood flooring can
make a room feel much warmer.

Re-Gifting for Nugent – message from Fr Michael
“No-one receives an unwanted gift or
Christmas present but at this time of
year it is possible that we find ourselves
with Christmas gifts that we are unable
to use or have too many of. (If I am
being honest once or twice in the past I
have opened a gift and wondered why
on earth someone thought I would like
it or use it!) One solution is to "Re-Gift"
them to Nugent, our Archdiocesan
caring service. These items are then
used as gifts within the various projects,
raffle prizes by our fundraising team or
sold in our charity shop to directly raise
much need funds.
There are boxes at the back of each of
the 4 churches of the parish to place
any items to be regifted such as toiletry
sets, homewares, clothing, DVDs, food
and chocolates within sell by dates or in
short anything given that can continue
the care and joy of Christmas at
Nugent. Indeed the charity shop is
always in need of good quality items to
sell so if you have any books, DVDs,
good quality clothing or any other items
suitable for resale please place them in
the boxes too.
Thank you in advance.”
‘How do I become a Catholic?’
Listen, I am standing at the door
knocking!
The Parish of St Wilfrid can offer you a chance to
meet like-minded people… to share conversation
together, in a warm and friendly atmosphere… to
provide a place where some of the questions that
may puzzle you can be explored… to have time and
space to discern if you are being called to a Catholic
way of life. For more information speak to Pauline
Rolt on 0151 422 1777 or email
Eat, Pray, Laugh: Catholic Peoples’ Weeks - Holidays with a Difference
CPW have been offering faith-filled, fun, and
reflective, holidays for Catholics and their families for
nearly 75 years. Our UK-based holidays range from
2 to 7 nights and are fully inclusive of all meals and
accommodation. The adult activities include talks,
discussions and workshops while a trained team of
youth helpers provide engaging and creative
activities for young people and children. For many,
CPW has provided a genuine experience of
community life and the opportunity to make life-long
friendships. Come and join us. Everyone’s welcome.
Check out catholicpeoplesweeks.org to see
what's on offer this year.
You might be particularly interested in the February
weekend coming up very soon or the all-aged family
week in August at Malvern, where the chaplain will
be Fr. Michael.
Parish Choir of St Wilfrid

Monday 28th January at 7pm in St. Bede's church. Everyone is very welcome even if you have not sung
before, or been part of this group previously or are only
able to come along occasionally.
Sacristans’ Meeting
There will be a meeting of
Sacristans with members of the
Liturgy Group on Thursday 30th
January at 7pm at St Basil’s
Presbytery.
Please attend if possible.

Co-ordinating Group
Our Parish Co-ordinating Group (Fr. Mike Fitzsimons, Pauline Rolt, Fr. Joe Bibby, Mary
Rudder, Fr Carl Mugan, Catherine Darby SND, Tony Rudder, Shelagh Hindley) meets each
week to try to co-ordinate the overall development of the parish.
• The meeting started with shared reflections on the Gospel for this Sunday.
• An update on planning for the Ministry of Consolation course, (which will be advertised in the newsletter in the coming weeks), gave opportunity to finalise and agree dates, plus other details, in readiness for the course to begin during Lent.
• Conversation on SYNOD 2020 highlighted the following;
➢ All Parish members have been confirmed (see notice in this newsletter) and
received communication from the Archdiocesan Office
➢ An informal gathering for Parish members has been arranged before the opening
ceremony on Sunday February 3rd
➢ The first Archdiocesan Meeting of Members starts their journey of formation for
the task, these meetings take place during the week from February 9th to February
16th
• Fr Carl shared feedback following a recent Street Pastors meeting, giving a brief out line
of work undertaken and basic regular funding from local churches/parishes which helps
to provide the resources needed for the project to continue.
Walsingham Pilgrimage
Sunday 8th to Tuesday 10th December 2019
This year’s Walsingham Pilgrimage has been booked
and, as ever, is expected to be very popular; many
people often want to return. We know demand for places
will be extremely high so, if you wish to reserve a place
please contact the Parish Office as soon as possible –
0151 422 1772.
Bookings can only be taken on the basis of non ensuite
rooms as we are not sure what will be available.
ALTAR SERVERS
Over the next few weeks you may
notice in the four churches of our
parish that the altar servers are seated
in a different place to where they have
been so far. The reason behind this is
to make them a more visible part of the
Liturgy, and especially to give more
prominence to the ministry of the
young people in the parish.
SYNOD 2020
On Sunday 3rd February at 3.00pm, the Archbishop, at a special service in the Cathedral, will
celebrate formally the calling of a Synod for the Archdiocese of Liverpool. This Service will begin
an important period of time leading up to the Synod itself in October 2020. As the Archbishop
himself said in his Pastoral Letter for Synod Sunday 2018 the Synod is the time when we choose
the path to walk on.
Everyone is welcome to come to this service. The Synod Members (Parish, Pastoral Area, and
others) will be mandated to undertake their task and we will all be invited to pray with and for them
and for the working of our Synod. Please join the Archbishop at 3pm on Sunday 3rd February in the
Cathedral.
