Dear parishioners and friends in Christ,

Last week I was pleased to welcome twelve of your fellow parishioners to the reinstituted Parish Council. The Parish Council is an advisory committee to facilitate communication between representative parishioners and me as the Pastor. Our initial meeting proved to be informative and enlightening for all. Among the topics we discussed were:

• Emerging from the pandemic;

• Preparing for return to Religious Education classes;

• Meeting the growing pastoral needs of our Spanish-speaking parishioners;

• Repurposing of our buildings;

• Attending to repairs and maintenance;

• Providing for a return to social activities and programs beginning this Fall.

Again, I ask you please to be patient with our Rectory parish office as we are our short-handed for the next few weeks. Our prayers go out to Susan Giordano, our Parish Secretary, on the passing of her mother this past week.

Speaking of short-handed, the parish currently has an immediate opening for a part-time custodian for 9:00 am to 12 Noon, Monday through Thursday, responsible for general maintenance. For further information, contact our Facilities Manager, Maura Vernice, at 516-944-8081, or by email at [email protected]. Salary is based upon experience and skill sets. Our good intentions to re-open in the Fall depend upon human resources to support the preparation and new cleaning protocols that are now required. Hopefully, a candidate for this position will live locally. As we have all been hearing it is very difficult to find employees these days. Please pass the word that we have a position available immediately.

As we celebrate Independence Day this weekend, let us be mindful of our right to religious freedom. The free exercise of our beliefs and public worship should never be taken for granted. With religious belief and practice being pushed to the margins of our contemporary culture it is especially important to safeguard this Constitutional right. In a particular way let us be prayerfully grateful for our Catholic Faith, values, culture, and traditions. Enjoy your 4th of July holiday and God Bless America!

Devotedly yours in Christ,

Monsignor Bob Clerkin
