Memorial Candles We are once again accepting reservations for the
memorial candles located on the candle stands in the
Church. The new reservation time will be January through June, 2021. The donation is $100 and the
candles will be lit throughout the entire six months. These candles may be reserved either in memory of
someone, for someone living or a special intention. A small plaque is placed in front of each candle
signifying the intention. Since there are a limited number of candles, new reservations are accepted before renewals. To reserve these memorial candles, the donation must be paid in person at the rectory
by Monday, December 28, 2020. This will allow for the new plaques to be printed and ready for display on January 1, 2021.

Also, to arrange for Communion to be brought to the homebound, please call the rectory to have a priest visit. After the priest visits, arrangements can be made for a Eucharistic Minister to regularly bring communion to the homebound.

To my fellow St. Kilian Parishioners,
It’s hard to believe that soon it’ll be my second Christmas as your
Pastor – without having celebrated an Easter here yet!
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you from the bottom
of my heart. I thank you for your unwavering support, both
spiritually and financially to St. Kilian’s Parish, as we weather the
pandemic in these troubling times. Because of your generosity,
we have been the only parish in the area to keep all of our staff
employed, make a few needed repairs and continue with our
current Capital Campaign efforts with the construction of our
long awaited new elevator!
On behalf of our Priests, Deacons and Staff, I wish you and your
family a blessed Christmas filled with Christ’s peace and blessings
for you and your family. May the newborn Savior’s gifts of love,
hope and joy be yours this Christmas Season! And let us together
pray for a happy, safe, normal and healthy New Year.
God Bless You!

NEWS FROM OUR FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM
As we enter this season of great Joy we wish all of our families and all parishioners of St. Kilian Parish the most Blessed, Holy, Healthy and Faith-Filled Christmas and New Year!
This year due to Covid 19 restrictions our Faith Formation Program at St. Kilian looks very different! Our children are being taught at home by their parents. The parents and children are being supported not only by our office but also by our catechists. The catechists are reaching out to our families via phone, email and good old fashioned snail mail!
Each family has received a tote bag with the books and all handout materials for each child in the family along with a detailed teaching calendar to follow. Our catechists have received the same materials as the families so that they may be as helpful as possible.
Kudos to our Faith Formation office staff for preparing 800 totes filled with books and materials for our families and over 50 for our catechists – in addition to doing registrations, 1st Communions and Confirmations!
We have initiated a monthly program newsletter - Information Station. The newsletter includes seasonal as well as grade level help and information for parents and children. Some of our grade level help is provided by catechists sharing the hints and insights they have used over their teaching years with our families. Look for many helpful hints on level 3 in our January issue.
Parents are working with our level 2 children to prepare them for 1st Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist. They too have received all materials the children would have received in class.
Our 7th grade Confirmation Preparation students are completing required worksheets as they study. As they finish their work they mail the worksheets to the office (in envelopes provided by the office in their materials). We track their work and follow up with calls or emails to be sure all work is completed.
Our sacrament grade levels will be receiving extra materials to enhance their at home teaching/learning experience.
We will be scheduling times in late Spring 2021 for the checking of the work done at home by all levels during the year.
Most importantly we ask that our parish pray for our families as they work their way through a very different year! The Church teaches that parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith and this year they live that teaching as never before!

The Society of St.
Vincent de Paul of
Long Island
Imagine how Mary felt at the birth of Jesus: excited, awed, frightened. Deep faith was her light in the
darkness, for Jesus was born during the night of the year when darkness is the longest.
Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought light into the darkness surrounding the heart of those living in poverty bringing them the real, lasting, and
deep joy of Christmas.
Together with your gifts, the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul continue his work and mission in our parish. If you are in need of
assistance or would like information on joining or contributing to the Society, please call

An announcement is a special kind of message, usually one letting us know that something important is going to happen. You might have received certain kinds of
announcements in the mail. Sometimes when people graduate or changing jobs they send out announcements. Your parents probably make announcements at home – like announcing
when dinner is ready or when it’s time to take a bath. Today’s gospel lesson contains a special announcement. In fact, it’s such a special
announcement that we even call it that: It is the story of “the annunciation.” In this reading, the Angel
Gabriel appears to a young woman named Mary and he announces that she is going to have a baby – and not just any baby – he tells
Mary that her baby will be the Son of God. Mary is to
be Jesus’ mother. That’s quite an
announcement!! We’ve reached the fourth Sunday
of Advent – the month during which we prepare, like Mary, for the coming of Jesus at Christmas.
And at last the time has come. We have only a few
more days to wait. Are you ready?.
Let’s pray. Dear God,
Christmas is almost here. Fill our hearts with your love as we wait for the
coming of your son, Jesus.
Amen.
