Matters of Importance Underground leakage in our heating system was spotted and reported to the company that installed the system but being overstretched in their services they could not attend to it. The problem is getting worse as the water that goes through the system escapes causing loss of pressure. The system installer has told me that he will have to send the subcontractors who know the system to investigate it. At the moment they are stuck on another job. The floor might need to be dug up to locate the leak. Due to the damage which might be caused by the flood below such as rotting insulation and rusting wires, I suggest to switch off the system completely. We are losing water, wasting gas and ruin- ing the system underground. Plans are underway to use the hall until the repair is done. Induction Course of our priests: will take place from Jan 25th -2nd February 2018. Please keep them in your prayers. TEACH THESE HABITS TO YOUR CHILDREN Few weeks ago we had a funeral of one of our good parishioners. I was pleased to see many common faces as we celebrated the funeral Mass. Common facesin terms of faithfully participating in the Catholic life. You see a funeral reflects the kind of life a per- son lived and the kind of company he associated with. A good practicing Christian will bring together practicing Christians. The celebration of the Mass was a thanksgiving to God for the fidelity of the deceased. The opposite can also be true that a non practicing baptised brings those people who clearly reflect on the lifestyle of the deceased. The church and the very celebration of the Mass is an alien world to them. It is very important to pass on to the children the values that will reflect in their life the kind of person you were when you are gone. Generosity is not an art learned in the schools but from home. Self respect and respect of others is not in the school curriculum but part of family upbringing. When I was young my parents used to prepare us for Sunday Mass and give One shilling to each one of us to put into the Sunday collection. Putting that coin into the collection brought us much joy because our offering became part of the sacrifice of the Mass. This taught us to know that it is our duty as baptised children to support the church. If the child has not been taught by his parents this kind of acting, he/she will not know that it is his/her duty to support good causes. Parents have so much to do with the kind of life that we live as adults. Jesus commenting on this point said: you will know them by their fruitsDuring last years Christmas vigil Mass for children I selected a 4 year child to carry the baby Jesus during the procession. I noticed that the child kept her fist tight even after I pleaded with her because I thought she might drop the figure of the baby Jesus. The little girl refused. I came to know that inside her tiny tight fist there was a pound coin which her parents had given her for her Christmas collection which she did not want to miss. The four year old knew that the pound was a precious gift she wanted to offer at Mass; she did not want to lose it or to miss being part of the offerings brought at the al- tar. Her behaviour reflects on the life of her parents. Even though I have not told them the experience I had with their daughter, I have great respect and admiration for them. During this year let us give something back to God especially our time. Some people are so much taken up with work yet their life does not seem to improve. When we put God in the second or in the third place, we may work hard but only to put our wages in a purse riddled with holes (Haggai 1:1-11). God knows all our needs therefore let us do his will first. God knows that we love our children so much, let us consecrate them to him first. God knows that we lack so many things let us give him what we have first. Seek first the kingdom of God and the rest will be given to you as well. In marriage, the grace of this sacrament brings to the spouses the particular help they need to be faithful and to be good parents.
