We are the Catholic community of Our Lady of Mercy. We have come from everywhere, to this one place, bringing the richness of many cultures and traditions to this one faith. We seek to be a place where the Gospel dismantles all barriers and where life is shared. We; therefore, welcome all and grow to be one in the Lord Jesus Christ, especially in our celebration of the Eucharist. Together we witness to the presence of God in our lives by hearing the Gospel proclaimed and by bringing that Gospel to all in our Community.
MERCY’S MEASURE “The Burial Cloths”
LA MEDIDA DE LA MERCED “El Lienzo y el Sudario”
The harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few... The scriptures tell us that there are few laborers
willing to help proclaim God’s word...
There are many children, but few Catechists Last year alone, there were 600 children/teens in the program, and we expect more this year. The number is large when we know that each catechist should be working with only 20 children.
Do you want to help? If you are a person who wants to help others espe-cially the children of this community; if you want to share your faith and learn more about it, also if you feel God calling you to this ministry; if you can commit to giving your time, them you are being called to ministry as a Catechist! Catechist must be persons of faith who live out the teaching of Church, are properly trained and have the approval of the Pastor.
Are you looking to help others learn about the Good News of Jesus?
Have you considered the
possibility of being a Catechist?
We have a great responsibility as baptized Catholics to plan an active role in the education of children and youth in our community. We need volunteers to help prepare the children and youth of our parish. If you feel that God calls you to this ministry, to share your faith and learn from it, we invite you to be a Catechist of the Religious Education program of Our Lady of Mercy.
We have classes for Young people First grade—11th
Saturday’s Session 1: 9:00am-11:00am Friday’s Session 4: 5:30pm-7:00pm

“By Baptism we become members of the Church, the Body of Christ.”
“The origin and foundation of Christian Baptism is Jesus. Before starting his public ministry, Jesus submitted himself to the baptism given by John the Baptist. The waters did not purify him; he cleansed the waters.
Jesus did not need to be baptized because he was totally faithful to the will of his Father and free from sin. However, he wanted to show his solidarity with human beings in order to reconcile them to the Father. By commanding his disciples to baptize all nations, he established the means by which people would die to sin –Original and actual– and begin to live a new life with God.
In Baptism, the Holy Spirit moves us to answer Christ’s call to holiness. In Baptism, we are asked to walk by the light of Christ and to trust in his wisdom. We are invited to submit our hearts to Christ with ever deeper love.”
~United States Catholic Catechism for Adults (Chap 15)

If you and your daughter are preparing her Quinceañera (15-year-old celebra-
tion), here are some of the requirements needed for the Quinceañera Mass. The
Quinceañera Mass must be scheduled no later than 4 months before the date requested. She must be a practicing
Catholic, this means she is Baptized, has received her First Communion and
Confirmed, and is attending Mass on a regular basis. If she is not yet confirmed,
you can register for the Confirmation Program at OLM. This is a 2-year
program that should be started in 8th grade or at the age of 13, so when the
time comes, your daughter is fully prepared for her 15-year-old celebration.
“Man and woman were created for each other.”
“Sacred Scripture begins with the creation and union of man and woman and ends with “the wedding feast of the Lamb”’ (Rev 19:7, 9). Scripture often refers to marriage, its origin and purpose, the meaning God gave to it, and its renewal in the covenant made by Jesus with his Church. By their marriage, the couple witnesses Christ’s spousal love for the Church. One
of the Nuptial Blessings in the liturgical celebration of marriage refers to this saying, “Father, you have made the union of man and wife so holy a mystery that it symbolizes the marriage of Christ and his Church.” The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.”
~United States Catholic Catechism for Adults
Our Monthly Marriage Information Night gives you all the steps and requirements needed to begin your walk up the aisle. It also allows you to ask questions. Call the Parish Office to find out when our next Marriage Information Night will be.

Emergency Exit Plan Know Your Church!
The following diagram can be used to help you quickly find the exits of the church in case we need to evacuate quickly because of a fire or some other disaster. Please take note of where you usually sit and which two or three exits are closest to you. Some exits may lead you to Kedzie Avenue. REMEMBER, THERE IS A FIREHOUSE across the street on Kedzie. The main entrance will take you to Troy Street, while the side entrances will take you to the south parking lot or north to a wide alley and the rectory. In case of emergency, please evacuate quickly, keeping your children and family members close to you.
We also have listed on this diagram many of the devotional shrines located in the church. For those who wish to say prayers in front of these shrines, please remember that real candles can only be used in the shrines that are shaded in pink. Shrines with yellow shading can use electric candles. Please do not leave lit candles or flower vases on the floor of the sanctuary.

WEEKLY COLLECTION COLECTA SEMANAL
VISITAS DEL MINISTERIO DEL CUIDADO Hospital Swedish Covenant (5140 North California):

PURPOSE The Bereavement Ministry will attend to families that have lost a loved one in the parish community of Our Lady of Mercy. The members of the ministry are trained to successful-ly implement our mission of providing comfort and support to the grieving families of the community, giving them our time, listening to their thoughts and sharing their tears.
WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF THE MINISTRY? Members of the ministry personally approach grieving families with comfort and support through: Funeral home visits and Funeral assistance. The more significant the loss, the more acute the response to pain. Grief represents a set of behaviors and feelings that are normal reactions to large losses and changes. Contact us if we can offer comfort and support to your family.
HOW TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS MINISTRY? To be part of the Bereavement Ministry of Our Lady of Mercy Church and offer your time and talent to reach out to members of the parish and the church in the area, leave a message for Deacon Ramiro in the Parish Office. The ministry offers you the oppor-tunity to grow spiritually by showing your love and compassion.
The Ministry of care is one od the oldest ministries in the Church. This ministry thrives today as people within the com-munity minister to one another’s needs. Our Lady of Mercy started this ministry in 1981, and to date, we still have two of the first ministers in the group. It has been good. It also has become clear to us as we move along that this pastoral care of the sick, the elderly and the dying, requires serious commit-ment from the parish and also the presence of carefully trained ministers. We are blessed with both

Andres Rojas Home Parish: Our Lady of Mercy Vocation Story: My call to the priesthood began
almost 10 years ago when I first considered entering college seminary. I have always been inspired by the tireless work of the many volunteers of the Church and the service I learned from my own family. I graduated from St. Joseph College Seminary in 2014 and left Mundelein Seminary in 2017. After spending some time reflecting and praying on Jesus’ priestly ministry and our call to serve in the Church, I’ve returned to seminary seeking to enter more fully in the plan God has for me.
Conrad Espino Home Parish: Our Lady of Mercy Vocation Story: I think every vocation starts with an
attraction and so I think the first time I felt an attraction the priesthood was when I was around 10 or 11 years old, through altar serving and witnessing the consecration of the Eucharist at mass. I thought it was really beautiful even though I didn’t really understand what was going on. I guess this attraction eventually became a calling, which I got a sense of when I was 13. Throughout high school, I was given the opportunity to explore this call when my pastor invited me to join the Quigley Scholars Program at St. Joseph College Seminary. It was through Quigley that I got to explore this call, this vocation. During my time in the program, I just grew more and more confident that our Lord was calling me to seminary, and so I was finally able to answer his call with a “yes”.
