Stewardship Reflection Stillness. "For you, O Lord, my soul in stillness waits, truly my hope is in you." That line comes from a beautiful hymn that is usually sung during Advent and has its roots in Psalm 62. Our Mother Church, as it has been said all year long, is very smart. It's the end of the year, and yet we are about to start our liturgical year during what can be considered the busiest time of the year. Our Mother knows it, and that is why she invites us to slow down, to hope, to await the birth of our savior. We can't give what we don't have. Let's pause and take advantage of this amazing time that is Advent and fill our hearts and our spiritual life to be better stewards, with the source of all life… Jesus!

Each year, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is Giving Tuesday, a day to thank God for the blessings that he has bestowed upon us during the year and to look within ourselves to see how we can best use our talent and treasure to help others. This year, St. Bartholomew is building upon that feeling of generosity and compassion by asking our parishioners to consider prayerfully enrolling in eGiving for your recurring weekly offering. By using eGiving, you are supporting our parish's shared mission to give back to others and spread the Word of God. We are excited about Giving Tuesday and all the miraculous work our parish can do in our community, with your support. Enrolling in eGiving is a safe and secure way to give to our parish, and getting started is easy—just visit faith.direct/TX896 or text the word ENROLL to (281) 603-1083. Your gifts and your participation are a blessing to us, and I ask you prayerfully consider donating to St. Bartholomew using Faith Direct on Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2019. God bless you, Fr. Christopher Plant Pastor

FAMILIARIS CONSORTIO ~ THE ROLE OF THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY IN THE MODERN WORLD (APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION of his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, issued November 22, 1981)

Please Note: Condensed from St. Paul Editions

Part Three THE ROLE OF THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY

II - SERVING LIFE 1.The Transmission of Life The Mission to Educate & the Sacrament of Marriage

The Sacrament of Marriage gives to the role of education the dignity and vocation of being truly a ministry of the Church, building up her members. John Paul II says that Saint Thomas had no hesitation in comparing this educational ministry with the ministry of priests.

A vivid awareness of the mission received with the Sacrament of Marriage helps Christian parents place themselves at the service of their children’s education. They do this with a sense of responsibility before God, who calls them to the mission of building up the Church in their children. As a result, in the case of baptized people, the family, called by word and sacrament to be the Church of the home, is both teacher and mother, as is the worldwide Church. First Experience of the Church The mission to educate demands that Christian parents do those things necessary for the gradual maturing of their children’s personalities from a Christian and ecclesial view point. Following this educational process, parents must take care to show their children the depths to which the faith and love of Jesus Christ can lead them. Further, these parents grow in awareness that the Lord is entrusting to them the growth of a child of God, a brother or sister of Christ, a temple of the Holy Spirit, and a member of the Church. It is truly Christ who supports them in the strengthening of the gift of grace in their children’s souls. The Holy Father notes that the Second Vatican Council described Christian education by expressing its principal aims as: introducing baptized persons into a knowledge of the mystery of salvation, assisting them to grow more conscious of the gift of faith, learning to adore God the Father in spirit and truth, being trained to conduct their personal life in true holiness, according to their new nature. (cf Eph 4:22f) In this way, they grow to maturity to the full stature of Christ and to devote themselves to the up-building of the Mystical Body. Aware of their calling, they should learn to give witness to the hope that is within them (cf I Pt 3:15) and in this way, to promote the Christian transformation of the world. This Synod, too, presented the educational mission of the Christian family as a true ministry by which the Gospel is transmitted. Family life itself becomes a true itinerary of faith, a Christian initiation and a school of following Christ.
