This weekend, we celebrate Holy Trinity Sunday. We affirm our Christian belief that God is one, yet three – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This belief unites all orthodox Christians. No analogy can adequately grasp the mystery of the Trinity, but one that I like is that of the Sun, the light from the Sun, and the heat from the Sun. The Father is the Sun. The light, which you can see - just as people were able to see Jesus - is the Son. The heat, which you cannot see but which you can feel, is the Holy Spirit. Analogies are never perfect, but I hope that you find this one somewhat helpful.

As I announced some time ago, Bishop Boyea was scheduled to come to St. Therese on Sunday, June 14, at the 10:30AM Mass to bless the congregation with the new relics of St. Louis and St. Zelie. Given the limitations on the size of the congregation allowed at our Masses at the present time, I have asked the Bishop to reschedule this important event for Sunday, October 4, the date when we will celebrate the Feast Day of St. Therese of Lisieux.

A few people have asked if children are allowed to attend Mass. Yes, they are! Like everyone else, children are required to wear masks during the liturgy. This does not apply to children under the age of two years old.

All of our liturgical ministers have been contacted by email and have been asked to communicate to me whether they are willing to serve in their roles at the present time. I would ask you to respond either way. I know that some of you may not feel comfortable serving at the moment, but that you would like to continue in your ministry in the future. This is perfectly understandable. We will definitely need your help when things settle down. For those of you who are currently willing to serve as liturgical ministers, we may be asking you to serve in your roles a little more often. In particular, ushers, greeters and lectors are especially needed. Thank you for your service!

I would like to say a special word of thanks to Neil, our maintenance worker. Over these past weeks, he has been doing an extra amount of cleaning to make sure that our worship space is thoroughly disinfected. Also, thank you to the volunteers who stepped up to assist with cleaning the pews after each Sunday liturgy. Your service is greatly appreciated.

On May 25, George Floyd died during an arrest in Minneapolis. Local authorities have deemed this incident a racially-charged murder. Let us pray for an end to individual and systemic racism in our country. Let us pray for an end to all violence in our cities. Lawful assembly, including protests, are certainly allowed under the 1st Amendment, but rioting and looting are not. May God bless America during these challenging times!

Are you receiving my weekly updates via email or postal letter? Please be sure to read them. They contain essential information about life at St. Therese Parish. This is why these unprecedented updates are being sent to you personally. In my next message, I will be discussing funeral policies, funeral luncheons and the convent. If you are not receiving my weekly updates, please contact our parish secretary at [email protected]

God bless you,

Fr. John Fain

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who continues to give! The weekly

numbers will start back up next week, but during the 10

weeks we were apart we averaged $9403.45 per week! God Bless You!!!

Prayer for the Solemnity of the

Most Holy Trinity

Glory be to the Father, Who by His almighty power and love created me,

making me in the image and likeness of God.

Glory be to the Son, Who by His Precious Blood delivered me from hell,

and opened for me the gates of heaven.

Glory be to the Holy Spirit, Who has sanctified me in the sacrament of Baptism,

and continues to sanctify me by the graces I receive daily from His bounty.

Glory be to the Three adorable Persons of the Holy Trinity, now and forever.

Amen.

Religious Education News It’s a Tradition! Once again, until Father’s Day, please save

pots, flats and trays after your gardening for the Giving Tree

Farm. A container is reserved for them at the southeast

corner of the Parish Garage. The disabled will put them to

good use. Thank you!

PLAN C - SHIFT and SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, June 27 from 9am – 12:30pm for our Saturday Outreach to the Stoneleigh Hospice Gardens. Hopefully, by then, you will have your own gardening work done and you

will be able to come out to the Stoneleigh Hospice gardens and chop down and spruce up. This date, being “Plan C,” hopefully we won’t have to go to a “Plan D” or scrap it altogether for the year.

In November of 2018, our Catholic Bishops sent us all a letter entitled “Open Wide Our Hearts: the enduring call to love; a pastoral letter against racism.” The letter

explains that “Racism arises when – either consciously or unconsciously – a person holds that his or her own race or ethnicity is superior and therefore judges persons of other races or ethnicities as unworthy of equal regard. When this conviction or attitude leads individuals or groups to exclude, ridicule, mistreat or unjustly discriminate against persons on the basis of their race or ethnicity, it is sinful. To overcome this evil, we should find our inspiration in the words of the prophet Micah: ‘You have been told, O mortal, what is good and what the Lord requires of you: only to do justice and to love goodness and to walk humbly with your God.’” (Mi 6:8) Next weeks: After 400 years of doing racism, the practicalities of doing “what the Lord requires” of us.

Our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) RCIA Question of the Week: What/who is the Trinity and from whence do we get the Trinity?

RCIA Answer of the Week: Who/What: The Trinity is a mystery – the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is the most fundament and essential teaching in the hierarchy of the truths of faith. We name them persons: “Father,” “Son” and “Holy Spirit.” We baptize in these three (3) names. (Matt 28:19) Yet, we believe in one God in three persons. (Council of Constantinope II, 553) Saying that God is “Love” (1John 1:5; 4:8) leads us to a three-fold relationship in love, Father being the “Lover,” the Son being the “Beloved” and the Holy Spirit being their “Love shared.” “In the relational names of the persons, the Father is related to the Son, the Son to the Father and the Holy Spirit to both.” They are distinct from one another in their relations of origin: “It is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten and the Holy Spirit who proceeds.” (Lateran Council IV, 1215) RCIA Question Next Week: What difference does the Trinity make in my life?

Our Adult Faith Formation: Small Discipleship Groups Next year, a Year of Scripture in the Lansing Diocese, we will be back in the St. Francis Room, face-to-face (although likely socially distanced) with frozen cookies! We’ll focus on Scripture, Scripture, Scripture. We look forward to reading the Word of God, learning about it, praying it, discussing it and sharing its impact on our lives with you in a Small Discipleship Group session.

I’m thinking of offering two (2) separate tracks thru Lent 2021 – “beginner’s” session (on a day to be determined) and a “beginner’s plus” session (on Tuesdays) Please make room for these sessions in your 2020-21 calendar.

SCRIP is now available following

8:30 am & 10:30 am masses on

Sundays. Sales continue through

July. Please go to the social room to

make purchases. Remember to follow social

distancing protocol. Thank you for your support!
