EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 2, 2020
18th Sunday
Ordinary Time

In all these things we conquer overwhelmingly. (Romans 8:37)
Julius Caesar. Alexander the Great. Napoleon Bonaparte. Genghis Khan. What do these men have in common? They were among the world’s greatest conquerors. They waged military campaigns that took them far and wide, forming mighty empires along the way.
Would you include Jesus in that list? Or St. Paul? Or yourself, for that matter? We don’t think of Christ, or Christians in general, as conquerors. Jesus died an ignoble death at the hands of the Romans. St. Paul was beheaded by the same empire. They looked more like the conquered than conquerors. Even today many Christians are martyred by those in power.
And yet through his sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection from the dead, Jesus conquered the greatest enemies of all: sin and death. And because of our baptism into Christ, that’s a victory we all share in—no matter what befalls us in this life.
Paul’s words must have comforted the early Christians whenever they experienced persecution for their faith. Even when it looked like they were “losing,” they knew they were actually “winning.” They trusted that not even the worst calamity could separate them from Jesus (Romans 8:39)!
These verses can bring you comfort as well. You may be experiencing the kind of anguish and distress that St. Paul described. Or maybe you are repeatedly “losing” to a certain temptation. Whatever the case, know that as you cling to the Lord, you will “win” in the end. One day Jesus will welcome you into his heavenly kingdom, and everything will be made right and beautiful.
Until then, remember that God will never separate himself from you; his love is too strong, too real and solid. And through that love, you too will triumph over sin, death, and all the trials of life. You too will be a conqueror.
“Jesus, may I never be separated from your love!”

Re-opening of the Church: All Saints' Parish
We are very happy to announce the re-opening of our church, in order to make our celebrations safe for all, here are some of the measures we will follow:
1. The City of Toronto by-law has made the wearing of masks or face coverings mandatory for all who attend Mass. Please ensure that you are wearing a mask or face covering each time you come to Church and that your face remains covered for the duration of the Mass.
2. When taking your seat, we kindly ask that you continue to select a place in the middle of the pew. This will allow other parishioner to fill in the end seats without disruption.
3. Communion at this time will be received on the hand only – not on the tongue. If you choose to wear gloves, please remove them before receiving communion.
4. When coming up to receive Communion, please exit your pew on your right as usual. Keep your face covering on as you wait on the markers. When you are next in line to receive communion, please remove your mask and approach Father. After Father says, “The body of Christ”, you respond “Amen”, receive and consume the host. You then place the mask back on your face and proceed to your seat.
We ask for the patience of those not wishing to receive communion to come and receive a blessing nonetheless. This is to avoid the unsafe practice of parishioners moving past each other.

All Saints is living the Gospel through ShareLife! The ShareLife 2020 committee is pleased to announce that we have raised $91, 008.75 thus far. We are committed to serving the poor and marginalized and to reach our $132,500 goal so ShareLife-funded agencies can meet the growing needs; many are experiencing increased demand for services due to the crisis. Please support their work, donating by cheque made payable to “ShareLife – All Saints’ Parish” which you can drop in the new Parish mailbox slot OR Online at https://www.sharelife.org/public/donate (Please select All Saints’ Parish, Etobicoke in the donation information Parish drop-down box). We thank you for your generosity.
MASS SCHEDULE: Monday to Saturday daily Mass 8:15 am
