Advent “Reconciliation Monday” Choose to go. You’ll be glad you did

Here’s your chance to make “a good confession” in anticipation of Christmas. Come to confession tomorrow, Monday, December 19th, when Monsignor and Fr. Gary will be hearing confessions from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Confessions will be heard, likewise, throughout the city and on Long island. Do it. As we read in Psalm 119:26 “Confession is good for the soul’ … and you’ll breathe easier too!

Divine Murmurs Many Minds, Many Sources; Same God

Happy Birthday, Pope Francis! Jorge Bergoglio was born on December 17, 1936 in Flores, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He observed his 80th birthday yesterday. Please pray for his health and welfare as the Bishop of Rome and Parish Priest to the World. “Exactly who is Jorge Bergoglio?” a reporter asked him, upon his being elected the 266th pope on March 13, 2013. He thought for a few moments, and then calmly said, “I am a sinner.” VIVA EL PAPA!

Seven days to go till Christmas! Here’s a great old mini-meditation, reminding us not to passively wait “Waiting is essential to the spiritual life. But waiting as a disciple of Jesus is not an empty waiting. It is a waiting with a promise in our hearts that makes already present what we are waiting for. We wait during Advent for the birth of Jesus. We wait after Easter for the coming of the Spirit, and after the Ascension of Jesus we wait for his coming again in glory. We are always waiting, but it is a waiting in the conviction that we have already seen God’s footsteps. Waiting for God is an active, alert – yes, joyful – waiting. As we wait we remember him for whom we are waiting, and as we remember him we create a community ready to welcome him when he comes.” Fr. Henri Nouwen, renowned Dutch priest and author, respected professor and beloved pastor, wrote over 40 books on the spiritual life. He died in 1996.
