You Know You will Feel Better! Reconciliation Monday, Tomorrow!

Priests throughout the City will be hearing confessions tomorrow from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Many Catholics have stopped going to confession because they had a bad experience with a priest years ago. (Imagine “giving up” on medical cures because of poor treatment by one doctor?!) Give God a chance to sacramentally embrace you with his mercy and get the pardon and peace the world cannot give. When you hear a priest speak the words of Jesus “in persona Christi” [in the person of Christ], it is overwhelmingly comforting. Here are the Words of Absolution we ALL long to hear: God, the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself, and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins: through the ministry of the Church may God give YOU pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit. Do yourself a favor and go to any nearby Church tomorrow. You’ll be glad you did. SEE TODAY’S BULLETIN INSERT.

* * * * * * * * Worldwide GOOD FRIDAY Collection

The annual, Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which directly supports the Franciscan friars’ maintenance and spiritual upkeep of the shrines in the Holy Land, will be taken up in all of the approximately 225,000 Catholic parishes in the world at the 3:00 Liturgy on Good Friday. Franciscans have been responsible for this ministry since 1372 A.D.! We ask your usual, generous support, and thank you for sharing your gifts with the less fortunate.

I was struck by the Holy Week relevance of this excerpt from an Op Ed piece in the March 25th edition of the New York Times. See what you think. The Book of Isaiah, in prophesying the Messiah, describes him as “a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” We’re told “by his wounds we are healed.” For those of the Christian faith, God is a God of wounds, where the road to redemption passes directly through suffering. There is some solace in knowing that while at times life is not easy for us, it was also hard for the God of the New Testament. And from suffering, compassion can emerge, meaning to suffer with another – that disposition, in turn, often leads to acts of mercy.

Heads Up! PARISH Advisory COUNCILORS

All Parish Adult Volunteers Quarterly Parish Advisory Council Mtg. Sun, Jun 4th Annual Adult Volunteers Dinner Mon, Jun 5th

Pastor Will Be Away After the last Mass on Easter Sunday, Monsignor will travel to his younger sister’s home to spend the week with the family. He returns very late, Friday, April 21st.

C.R.C., Join Us Tonight! Join us in the Murphy Center after the 5:30 Sunday Mass TONIGHT, for a Pizza & Pasta Party! All are welcome!

Annual Spring Blood Drive Wednesday, April 12th, 2:30-8:30 PM

Lent is drawing to a close. Please join us this Wednesday to donate a pint of life-saving blood. From a spiritual viewpoint, we recognize the Blood of Christ as life-giving. We can imitate his sacrifice in the smaller gesture of offering our own life-blood to help save another. So – Come! Donate! Consider: – only the real thing will do – there is no synthetic blood – donating blood is very democratic and inclusive – all blood is the same – donating is surprisingly painless and you’ll be out in about an hour – will you keep watch with Him for one hour? – Holy Trinity is in the Top Three donating parishes in the Archdiocese – because of your generosity & compassion – the Blood Drive provides a unique opportunity for parish- ioners to meet & socialize outside their regular groups * * * * * * * * A reminder that Good Friday is a day of fasting and abstinence.
