Notre Dame Cathedral The Notre Dame is located in

Paris. It is one of the iconic examples of architecture in France. In 1160 the decision to build the Notre Dame was made. The Norte Dame was not started being built until 1163 and completed in 1345. The Eiffel Tower- The work of the Eiffel Tower began on January 26, 1887. It was completed on March 31, 1889. Arc de Triomphe- The arch was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to commemorate his victories, but was ousted before the arch was completed. The arch is carved with names of generals who commanded French Troops. The design of the arch was by a man named Jean Chalgrin.

Louvre- One of the largest and also most visited museums in the world. The museum is in Paris. It displays about 35,000 works of art. Including the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, Venus de Milo and Winged Victory. The Louvre was built in many stages. It was first built in the sixteenth century when the Royal Family started to move near the fortress of Louvre. The original keep was destroyed then replaced by a palace. The main architect was Pierre Lescot.

Sacré-Coeur- This is a major tourist attraction in Paris. This majestic building is at the top of the Montmartre Hill. The project to build this was by a group of influential people. They wanted to build a church if Paris escaped the war with the Prussians and they saw the defeat of the French at the hands of the Prussian army in 1870 as a moral condemnation of the sins of Paris.
