Representational: A Representational piece of art is characterized by images and/or objects which are shown in a realistic form. The artists attempt to apply personal goals (re: design, colour, theme, etc.) to his/her work. Non-Objective: When all sense of reality has been removed by means of abstraction, the artistic composition is described as non-objective. Lines, forms, colours, etc., are set together to create a totally new conception. Note: All art finds its place somewhere between two extremes-realism and complete non-objectivity. As the artist moves out of a realistic mode he/she is moving into partial abstraction or full non-objective composition. Mixed Media: This term is most often found in the context of “works on paper” which maybe mixtures of watercolours with gouache, pastel, pencils, wax crayons, and so on, but other media can also be used in combination with oil paints. HAND QUILTED AND MACHINE QUILTED COMPETITIONS Each year the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) showcase the Quilting

section of each fair by sponsoring two Provincial Grand Champion Competitions in which you, the exhibitor, are eligible to participate.

At the Paris Fair, we are requested to judge a Grand Champion and a Reserve Grand Champion from all first and second prize eligible entries for both the Hand and Machine Quilted Article Competitions.

Grand Champions proceed to the Fall District competition and if successful, to the Provincial Championship selection at the OAAS Convention in February 2018, where Grand prizes will be awarded.

If your quilt wins Grand Champion at more than one Fair, the exhibitor must send the quilt to District Competition on behalf of the Fair nearest his/her home address. The other Fair(s) must then send their Reserve Champion Quilt to the District Competition.

An exhibitor who wins more than one Best of Show title with a different quilt at different Fairs shall be entitled to enter each winning quilt to compete at the District Competition.

If an exhibitor does not wish his/her entries to compete in the OAAS competition, please indicate on back of entry tag.

“The Song My Paddle Sings” West wind, blow from your prairie nest, Blow from the mountains, blow from the west. The sail is idle, the sailor too; O! wind of the west, we wait for you. Blow, blow ! I stow the sail, unship the mast: I wooed you long but my wooing’s past; My paddle will lull you into rest, Sleep, sleep, By your mountain steep Or down where the prairie grasses sweep ! Now fold in slumber your laggard wings For soft is the sound my paddle sings.

Be strong, O paddle ! Be brave, canoe ! The reckless waves you must plunge into. Reel, reel, On your trembling keel, But never a fear my craft will feel.

And up on the hills against the sky A fir tree rocking its lullaby Swings, swings Its emerald wings, Swelling the song that my paddle sings. E. Pauline Johnson 14. Design a logo using the words “Celebrate Canada 150th “
