FUND RAISING FOR AUSTRALIAN RED CROSSFUND RAISING FOR AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS

GOLD COIN DONATIONGOLD COIN DONATION——COME DRESSED IN REDCOME DRESSED IN RED

Fundraising is a social and rewarding way to make a valuable difference to the lives of people both in Australia and overseas. This year the staff at Aveley Primary School selected two charities to support with funds being raised for Australian Red Cross in Semester 1 and The Royal Flying Doctor Service in

Semester 2.

On Thursday, 19 June all children and staff are invited to come dressed in red and to donate a gold coin to support Australian Red Cross. It is hoped that we can then assemble everyone in red on the day to form a human cross which we will photograph from a

height and use to show our support for Red Cross.

This year Red Cross Australia is celebrating its Centenary of 100 years of volunteering in Australia. The Red Cross help millions of people around the world each year and cares for our local community. Whether it’s by providing

blood to patients through the Blood Service, responding to a major natural disaster or a personal crisis, Red Cross gives immediate and practical help. Internationally, Red Cross works to provide much needed help for refugees in war-torn areas as well as funding and supporting safer, healthier and more sustainable lives for people in developing countries, particularly in the Asia Pacific region. They are increasing their commitment to health, including: water, sanitation, hygiene promotion,

community-based health, and first aid programs.

NATIONAL CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON NATIONAL CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON

SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH A DISABILITYSCHOOL STUDENTS WITH A DISABILITY

As of August, 2014, all schools are going to be reporting to the state and federal governments on the number of children who have a disability. We, like all others schools, already collect this data for our own records and monitors the progress of all children in our care, however, this will be the first time the information will be collected at a government level. No personal information will be given about any child, as the school will be providing the number of children we recognise as having various degrees of need to access the curriculum due to either a learning difficulty, cognitive, physical, or a social and emotional need that

may impinge on their learning.

Wise words for the fortnight……

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to

change the world”. [Nelson Mandela]

SAFETY IN THE SCHOOL CARPARKSAFETY IN THE SCHOOL CARPARK Please be more vigilant with children entering their vehicles after school, as we have had a few reports of ‘near misses’. I would like to urge all motorists to slow down and observe the school

speed zone limits.

Children can be unpredictable and might duck out onto the road or misjudge traffic but by

slowing down you could help prevent a tragedy.

I ask all parents/carers to take special care when dropping off

and picking children up from school.

WAKAKIRRI UPDATE...WAKAKIRRI UPDATE... Thanks to all the parents who have been staying back on Tuesdays to assist in props making. We would love more helpers, so if you could stay on Tuesdays after school for any amount of time that would be appreciated. We are also needing helpers to sew costumes....some of these jobs are simple, others do need a machine, so if you could assist please see me ASAP or email me on [email protected]. The ticket order deadline has also passed now, so I hope you have all paid at the office. People who requested extra tickets we will be contacting

you soon if there are any more tickets available.

AVELEY READING OLYMPAVELEY READING OLYMPICSICS

Five simple ways to prevent the

spread of the flu…..

1. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough

The flu virus can travel through the air when a person coughs or

sneezes. When you cough or sneeze you should:

· Turn away from other people

· Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue

· Use disposable tissues rather than a handkerchief (which

could store the virus)

· Put used tissues into the nearest bin, rather than a pocket or

handbag

· Wash your hands, or use an alcohol hand rub, as soon as

possible afterwards.

2. Wash your hands

Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, or using an alcohol-based product (gels, rinses, foams) that doesn't require water - even when they aren't visibly dirty. This is the single most effective way of killing the flu virus. Either of these methods is

effective, with products available at supermarkets and

pharmacies.

Always wash your hands:

· after you've been to the toilet

· after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose

· after being in contact with someone who has a cold or flu

· before touching your eyes, nose or mouth

· before preparing food and eating.

3. Don't share personal items

The flu virus can spread when someone touches an object with the virus on it and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth.

If a member of your household has the flu:

keep personal items, such as towels, bedding and

toothbrushes separate

do not share eating and drinking utensils, food or drinks

4. Clean surfaces

Flu viruses can live on surfaces for several hours. If a member of your household has the flu, you should regularly clean surfaces such as tables, benches, fridge doors and door knobs with soap

and water or detergent.

5. Avoid close contact with others if you are unwell with flu

Keeping your distance from others by standing or sitting back (at least one metre apart, where possible) will help reduce the chances of spreading the flu virus between people.

P&C UNIFORM SHOP P&C UNIFORM SHOP

Open every Wednesday 8.45AM to 9.15AM during the school

term.

Hi Everyone,

The Nature Play Passports will be distributed around the school shortly. The passports encourage the children to participate in outdoor activities and the passports have stickers and spaces to record any activities the children complete. An adult needs to log onto the website to register the children and once registered you can track your completed missions and achievements. This is a great incentive for young children to get outdoors and discover

the world around us.

We will be arranging a Family Photo Day soon. We will be getting a professional photographer to come to the school so that families can have their portraits taken. Bookings will be essential so that times can be arranged. The day would be held on a weekend and because it is usually a busy day we might have to

do it over two days depending on the number of bookings.

If you want to encourage your children to save some money and to learn about banking, please come to the undercover area on Tuesdays before school. We receive $5 for every new account and commission on all deposits banked with these profits all going back to Aveley P&C. Thank you and well done to all

savers.

We need your help! Volunteers are needed for the Winter Carnival Sausage Sizzle on Friday, 27 June at Woodlake Oval.

Time slots are available between 9AM to 2PM. If you can help

please contact the school admin on 6296 5466, email [email protected] or call Helen on 0429 493 645. Your

time would be greatly appreciated.

The Aveley P&C are looking for ideas from parents, carers and children as to what our funds raised can be used for. There may be something you think the children need for use in the classroom or in the playground. If you know of anything that the school needs or anything that would benefit the children please let us know and we will see if it can go onto our fundraising

agenda.

We are always open to suggestions for methods of raising money for the school and our children too. If you ever think of something that would be enjoyable and not too difficult to

implement please let us know.

Your ideas cost nothing but they can be invaluable and so beneficial for our children, the school and the community. We would love to hear your creative ideas and suggestions so please jot them down and pop it in the black P&C letterbox

located outside administration.

If need to contact us you can do it via our facebook page, via email at [email protected] or you can attend our next

meeting on Monday, 11 August at 7PM in the school library.

Until next time,

Your Aveley P&C Committee
