MYP and AP Coordinator

Primary Years Programme (PYP) K through 5 Middle Years Programme (MYP) 6 through 10 Diploma Programme (DP) 11 and 12
In the PYP and MYP, IB is a philosophy of education In DP, IB it is an all inclusive program of study, leading to an IB Diploma
9th Grade classes Some 9th Grade Honors classes MYP 9th Grade
English
All Rampart students will register for MYP English classes
World Language
Students who wish to leave the option open to enter the Diploma Programme will take French or Spanish
Students who know they will not pursue DP but who might take Advanced Placement classes will take French, Spanish or German
American Sign Language is also available. It is not a language tested in DP or AP
Science Freshmen will register for a semester of
Earth Science
and a semester of Principles of Biology
◦ Both of those courses may also be taken at the honors or MYP levels
Social Studies ◦ Freshmen will register for a semester of
World Regional Geography
and a semester of Civics and Law
◦ World Regional Geography may be taken at the Honors or the MYP level
Math ◦ Courses are selected by Mountain Ridge and
Rampart teachers
Physical Education and Health ◦ Freshmen will register for a semester of
Intro to Physical Education
And a semester of Health and Wellness
Those courses are both offered at the MYP level as well
Two semesters of Guided Study Hall are required for all freshmen ◦ with exceptions for Advancement Via Individual
Determination (AVID),
◦ Band or
◦ Choir
For MYP students,
the MYP Guided Study Hall, during second semester is
where freshmen begin to prepare for
Personal Projects and
Service as Action hours
Personal Project ◦ A student driven
◦ Optional
◦ Differentiated
◦ Mentor supported
◦ Individual project
◦ Not tied to grades
◦ Perfect prep for DP and AP – but not required
◦ Exhibited in December of the Sophomore year
◦ Completion is noted on the student transcript
◦ Supported through Managebac
Service as Action volunteer hours ◦ Student driven
◦ Optional
◦ Differentiated
◦ Individual choice
◦ Not tied to grades
◦ Perfect prep for DP and AP – but not required
◦ 20 hours in the Freshman year
◦ 20 hours in the Sophomore year
◦ For a total of 40 hours by April 1 of the Sophomore year
◦ Completion is noted on the student transcript
◦ Supported through Managebac

The only decision students and parents need to make right now is whether to register for 9th grade classes at Rampart, with a few honors courses added, perhaps,
or for the MYP program at RHS.
Be sure to take the correct form on Feb 6 at Freshmen are Fantastic (or take both)

Both the 9th grade classes and the MYP 9th grade classes will adequately prepare students for the two academically advanced choices for 11th and 12th grades –
◦ Advanced Placement (AP) or
◦ Diploma Programme
(DP –International Baccalaureate)
This decision needs to be made in January of the Sophomore year –
not today! And not this year!
