Caring, Co-operating, Called to Others
Ministry of Education funding for 2012 Based on a roll of 138 children. Allows us to operate 5 classrooms. Gives us an allocation for Reading recovery. Ensures the continuation of the 3 year Ministry
funded ICT contract. Enables us to employ an extra part-time teacher to
assist Y5-8 literacy and numeracy. Secures employment of a part-time ICT teacher/
maintenance man. Secures employment of teacher-aide to assist with
the Library and curriculum support for children.
Classes 5 classrooms in operation at the start of 2012 Rimu - Y0/1, 12 children Rata - Y2/3, 21 children Matai - Y3/4, 24 children Pohutukawa - Y5/6, 30 children (2 teachers -
one full time, one part-time literacy/numeracy) Kahikatea/Totara - Intermediate Learning
Centre - Y7/8, 34 children (2 teachers - one full time, one part-time literacy/numeracy)
Why an Intermediate Learning Centre? To support the differentiated learning at
this level. To give the Y7/8 children further
opportunities for leadership. To utilise the learning spaces we have. To enthuse children to ‘think outside the
square’ with their inquiry learning. To support the eLearning strategic vision.

We will ensure that the use of ICT is successfully and effectively integrated into the curriculum, to enhance student achievement and to provide opportunities for teachers and St Patrick’s learners to be confident, self managing inquirers.
School wide initiatives 2012 Sports coaches from NC sports teaching skills every 2nd
week throughout the year. Gymnastics at AMI stadium. Swimming - Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre or Dudley Park. Choir - Kaiapoi schools’ festival. Kapahaka - Christchurch schools’ festival. Trinity Quest - Sports skills during lunch breaks/ School
vegetable garden. Camp - Y5/6. Ski trip - Y7/8. ePortfolios for children’s work. Science classes at Kaiapoi High - Y7/8. School Radio station.
2012 - One World, Many Faces
Enduring Understandings: That there are many cultures in the world. Acceptance, tolerance and empathy for other
peoples’ way of life. Experience another culture to learn about the
peoples that make up a community. Practise using languages including sign
language to communicate with others. Make connections with others and create
opportunities to gain a sense of belonging and confidence.
Why a Radio station? Make connections with others and create
opportunities to gain a sense of belonging and confidence.(Enduring understanding for 2012).
A real audience for presenting work - book reviews, stories, inquiries, radio plays, poetry, music.
A real context for interviewing each other and guests.
Cross - curricula from literacy to commerce (fundraising).
Why a Radio station? An opportunity to explore different genres of
literacy from sports commentating to news reporting to investigative journalism.
Public speaking skills - pronunciation, adlibbing, improvisation.
Additional motivation for project work. Social skills - team building,leadership, peer
support and evaluation. An outlet for students with musical ambitions. A chance to get into the Kaiapoi community to
investigate, fundraise and make links.
