Bletchley Park Trip

On Monday 19th February, 40 students in Year 7 and 8 had an opportunity of exploring the history of Bletchley

Park.

Our students were exemplary representatives of KES Academy and showed brilliant resilience and problem solving

skills. The activities on the day consisted of code breaking, site tour and a little history of Bletchley and its

importance during Second World War.

It was an amazing experience and students involved really appreciated the place, the history and the activities

planned. Well done to everyone taking part!

Violeta Olehnovica has amazingly achieved 2000 points since she began here in September. She has the most

achievement points this year than any other student in school. Violeta was presented with her certificate today by

Mr Brown. My congratulation goes to Violeta.

The Science department stars of the week go to Monika Rosca and Lily Ashton. Well done.

Mr Ibbitson drew the prizes for last half terms attendance. All students in Year 7 who gained 100% were placed in

the draw. Paulina Sanduta and Skye Curr both won £10 cinema vouchers and popcorn. Hannah Bradley won the £25

restaurant voucher. The next draw will take place after Easter holidays.

This eek s PE sta s of the eek go to Lexi Billington and Daryl Melton. Well done to both of them.

Matthe Lake is this eek s Mode Foreign language star of the week, excellent work.

Our assembly this week was taken by Mrs Watson and Mr Head. The topic being discussed was Growth mindset.

This will be repeated in PSHE lessons with year 7 students but in more depth.

I would like to wish you all a lovely weekend.

Mrs B Wright – Head of Year 7

Year 8 – Mrs Stonach

Our year 8 attendance has slightly improved again this week which is great news, thanks to parents and pupils for

coming in despite the coughs and splutters. Many students are really keen to keep their attendance above 95% in

order to win awards and qualify for prize drawers – every lesson really does matter. Some pupils have met with me

to discuss their attendance this week; we will be meeting every 2 weeks to identify any barriers and offering

support in order to improve their attendance within school.

Well done to the year 8 half term high achievers (see right hand list) These pupils gained the highest number of

achievement points over the previous half term.

Well done to the following pupils for working hard and being

recognised by the following departments –

Mitchell Stokes – MFL

Mitchell Stokes and Fergus Martin-Lewis – Science

Amy Hails and Rafe Manning – PE

On Monday, I travelled with 30 Year 7 and 8 pupils to Bletchley Park to take part in some code breaking. If you

ha e t ee , it is defi itely well worth the trip. Not only can you take part in coding activities, you can wander

around the manor house which housed some of the most important and talented code breakers of WW2 and see

what life was like for them. A big thank you to Miss Heizig who organised the trip – I know that the pupils (and I)

had a great day.

Year 8 options. Options sheets have now all been given out and most have been returned along with the college

6th Form News

All year 12 students should have brought home progress reports. If you haven't received yours then please let the

6th form office know and we will send another copy home. Parents' evening is on 22nd May but if you have any

concerns before this time please contact Mr White (assistant director of 6th form) in the first instance.

On Monday we held our first 6th from wellbeing evening. This was really useful evening and the feedback was

excellent. Unfortunately we didn't have a huge turn out so we hopefully be repeating this event nearer to the

summer exams for those who were unable to make it this time.

We would like to wish all the year 13 students about to embark on their mock exams the very best of luck and to

remind you that timetabled lessons continue as normal during the mock period. If an exam is missed due to illness

students must ring into school and we will rearrange for them to sit the exam on the first available slot on their

return.

Mrs Mclean and the 6th form team.

Year 11 – Mr Waring

Well it s the last F iday efo e the se o d a d fi al set of o k exams and I can honestly say the school have done

some magnificent work in preparing our students for success.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who have been putting on extra after school lessons, to Mrs

McLean for her master classes and Mr McNeil for organising Action Jackson (a Mr Motivator type character) which

was a very enjoyable and worthwhile session that all our students got something really positive out of. I am sure

there are many other members of staff I have not mentioned who continue to drive our year 11 students towards

GCSE success.

As for the students themselves, all that is left to say is if you have attended, if you have listened, if you are armed

with all the necessary equipment, if you have questioned, revised and done your best; we are sure you will do your

teachers and parents proud and get exactly the success you deserve. On behalf of all school staff and parents, good

luck.

I have literally just had a year 11 student from 2016 come to visit me. Now when this student was here, his behaviour

and attendance could have been a lot better than it was. He has just said to me, he wishes he could come back and

do his time at KES all over again, he wishes he had listened and behaved better because if he had, maybe he would

not be struggling so much now. Do not be one of those students who a few years down the line, regrets their time

here and the opportunities it provides.

Attendance

As I mentioned in my last bulletin before the half term, there are far too many students taking singular days off for

the weakest of reasons and there are too many students taking the last day of a term off. As I have been saying all

year long, every day in school is an important one, they need to be here to learn in order to achieve success, as every

day does count.

Congratulations yet again to 11H who once again made it a perfect 100% attendance, with second place going to 11E

with a score of 97%. Well done to both form classes.
