Word Lists - Basic The following word lists are provided in order for you to practice the paraphrasing patterns you have memorized. When you get comfortable with the patterns, time yourself in order to push yourself to speak faster. Start with 30 seconds and then see if you can successfully use 3 patterns for each word in 15 seconds or less. This will help you to become more fluent when you speak, so that you can communicate any concept without even knowing the English vocabulary for that concept. The words on the following pages are grouped into sets of 10. They were chosen specifically because they work well with the basic patterns. Before using any particular word list, quickly scan the words to see if there are any whose meaning you do not know. Look those words up in a bilingual dictionary so that you know the meaning in your native language. Then practice paraphrasing with all words on the list. Try not to think too long about any particular word ahead of time, as that ruins the purpose of the exercise. If you have practiced the words on all the lists and you still feel that you need more practice, then create your own word lists. There are many words lists online, so just do an internet search for the most common nouns, verbs, and adjectives and work from there. Once you are confident that you can quickly paraphrase any given word using the patterns provided, then it is time to move on to the more advanced paraphrasing list, where you can practice the substitution exercises you learned in the instructional video. Good luck and enjoy your fluency training! Aaron and Dan Deep English
