    Editors Note

    John For

    Hi guys,

Well another month has own by hasnt it; and we

are approaching one o my avourite times o the

year, HALLOWEEN or should I say Samhain, the time

o year where spirits are allegedly roaming the gate

ways between this world and the next. Many kids

will be out trick or treating and all dressed up having

    un.

Please send us your photos o Halloween or our Hal

loween photo contest so we can publish them into

the next magazine. I have no doubt that the winning

photo will receive a ree 3 month subscription to the

best paranormal magazine in this world or the next.We do want to see what our amily o readers are do

ing over the holiday, so get them sent in, or ones o

    the pumpkin sculptured etc.

The magazine this month has grown beyond rec

ognition rom our rst Junes issue and we are very

proud o its growth, however on a serious note, we

are rather concerned that our brilliant writers do not

spread the word around about the magazine; and

the link we give them is also getting passed around.

This does not help the circulation o the magazine

and hinders the time we can get it into print. As

such, we have had to bring in guidelines to approach

this and hopeully benet all o our writers and read

ers alike. I hope you all take these in the way they are

meant and dont take oense at them.

From this issue on, we would like all o our writers to

agree to advertise the magazine on their websites,

Facebook pages, Twitter, and anywhere else they can

think o that will get their articles and our magazineout in the public domain. We would like a link rom

each o the writers so we can hopeully keep track o

where those who are purchasing the magazine have

    been reerred.

On no account must the link or the writers ree is

sue be given out to anyone. We will be strict on this

and i ound then that writer will no longer be pub

    lished in the magazine.

We as a magazine will undertake to publish a

submitted by our writers to the highest stand

and will actively endeavour to get the ma gaz

print, which has always been our aim.

With regard to the paranormal investigation

being eatured in our magazine, we will requbeore they go to print that they agree to pro

the magazine on all o their outlets, both be

ater its publication on the web. We will not p

a ree copy o our maga zine just or being ea

Our goal in eaturing paranormal groups is to

the word about our magazine while assisting

    teams in becoming known worldwide.

I have been made aware that o ne o our write

subject to disrespect while conducting an int

Any group or individual rom now on that ins

degrades any o our amily o writers will be n

and shamed in the next issue. We will protect

look ater our amily. On no account will we p

with this behaviour as was reported. I will not

the magazine to be used or promotion o an

to urther their own causes, and we certainly

allow any member o our amily to be degrad

    abused.

Right there is my rant over or this month.

I would like to say a thank you or the hard w

coeditor, Belle keeps putting into the magaz

a big thanks to Tara who has worked tirelessl

months issue. Saying this, I hope you all enjo

months antastic issue and I would love to ha

    responses sent in to us.

    Happy Samhain

I wanted to write and express my gratitude or hav

Jack, along with his coounder Beverly Leavell and

his group are well rounded and respected in the

paranormal community. Jack ounded his rst group

back in 1994 beore investigating was in the mai n

    stream.

Jack became interested in paranormal investigating

when he worked 3rd shit or an alarm compa

Louisville, Kentucky. He said he would get ala

the middle o the night, and he would dispatpolice. One night, he received a call rom Lib

deed a ghost inhabiting the premises. Curious,

eptical, and alone, Jack took him up on the oer.

e arrived at the home just at sundown armed with

arge pack o CocaCola, a bulky Sony camera that

sed 3.5 oppy drives, and a ashlight. Jack didnt

e the gray lady that night, but he did hear loud

otsteps that urther sparked his curiosity, and rom

at night orward, 18 years ago, his journey began.

eore the paranormal became a household term

ue to a ood o television programs, ghost hunting

as a taboo topic. States Jack, It was considered

e occult, and was a hushhush topic in mainstream

ociety. Paranormal investigating was not advertised

is it is today. Jack would go to the library and look

n bulletin boards where others would be looking to

in certain groups, like chess clubs, or bird watch

    g. Jack decided to put up an ad looking or othersterested in investigating ghosts. Soon he received

call rom a real country boy name Jamie Levine,

ho shared his passion. The two began investigating

gether, and Jamie had a cemetery in his backyard

ut in the middle o nowhere. We didnt have any

quipment back then, says Jack just a camera, mag

ght, ood light, and ashlights. Jack and his new

end investigated Jamies property at every chance

ey had. They were looking to have experiences in

e beginning, and hope to get a picture or two.

s time went on, Jack and Jamie had acquired more

embers in their group. They began to add new

cks o the trade, like compasses and, baby powder!

heap and reliable, baby powder would be sprinkled

here ootsteps had been heard. The team, careul

ot to backtrack their steps, would leave the area

cked where nobody could access the powdered

ea. Jack tells about the time they got oot tracks on

n investigation. We used baby powder to capture

otsteps heard by the home owners. The old deeased owner used to go shing by the pond there

n the property. We got back and saw bare eet

acks in the powder! He later saw photos o the

an shing while bareoot. When asked about the

ompass, Jack explained that when one encounters

aranormal activity, the compass would spin.

s time went on the guys became more sophisticat

d in their quest o the paranormal. The group had

een hearing about various instruments being used

by other groups and soon heard about the Polaroid

One Step Camera, Geiger counters, gauss meters,

and inra red security cameras. The down side was

that these instruments were very heavy, bulky and

were not easy to transport. Still, the guys pushed on

using the equipment in hopes o catching evidence

o activity. Soon Jack and his team added the analog

shoe box recorder, which had taken the paranormal

community by storm. Jack states, I watched a show

one aternoon and there was this lady name Sarah

Estep who had captured a disembodied voice on a

recording device. Today that lady is reerred to as the

pioneer o Electronic Voice Phenomena. The voice

recorder is used by every group today and is consid

ered to be one o the most reliable. He was learning

and teaching himsel about the question and answer

method o EVP. He would ask a question and would

give a long pause in hopes o capturing a voice on

the recorder. Jack and other pioneers have set thestrict guidelines or which new investigators today

    use when recording EVP sessions.

In the mid 90s, Jack started, SIGA, Southern Indiana

Ghosthunters Association. There was about 35 o

us Jamie had gotten married and moved , oth

ers dropped o, and I started my rst pa ranormal

group, well, it wasnt a real p aranormal group but we

called it that! All o a sudden Jack lets out a boyish

chuckle. Well we all got together and decided to call

ourselves SIGA. I asked him why he was laughing

and he says, It was kinda unny at the time, nobody

here thought o us o having a name well this was

beore groups really had ocial names, and people

just called us the Ghost Busters! Hey look, they have

the equipment like the ghost busters have, reerring

to the Geiger counters! So that was the reason we

named ourselves. Jack says that it still happens, and

people reer to him as a ghost buster by strangers

    walking by.

As time went on, in the mid to late 90s, Jacks para

normal arsenal began to grow; the digital recorders,

EMF Gauss Masters, MEL meters, and air ion coun

ters. There were other equipment available then,

but we couldnt aord it, like the VHS Camcorders,

states Jack. In the late90s, the show, Ghost Hunters

came out, and the paranormal eld became a popu

lar ad, and the topic was a regular household term.

Jacks say the cemeteries were ooded at night with

wannabes. They had watched a couple o epi sodes

o the show, and were them calling themselv

perts! says Jack. He goes on, at night, the ce

ies were over run by people; we were steppin

top o each other, literally! Many times peop

    i I am a member o the TAPS team rom TV! L

make this really clear, I am NOT with them! s

Today, Jack volunteers his time as an EVP inst

and gives lectures to college students in his s

time, when he is not investigating, that is. He

new investigators Paranormal 101, and Paran

    102. Both classes teach the proper way to con

and EVP session, and utilize computer sotwa

analyze their ndings. His equipment arsena

rom digital recorders to mini DVD recorders,

MEL meter, to name just a ew. He uses the sc

tic approach to investigating, and does not

the newer radio wave scanning equipment u

newer groups today. He preers to keep his mstrict and scientic. His methods are more rel

when it comes to being accurate, especially w

    presents his ndings to clients.

Jacks excitement shows through when he ta

about the paranormal. The excitement in his

when he talks about investigating makes him

o a kind. Investigating is his lie, and it has b

a lie long journey. Because o his extensive b

ground, he is oten asked to analyze evi denc

other groups that he doesnt even know. Its

about team work, we investigators help each

out, and that is what I love a bout the parano

    community.

Because Jack and SIGN enthusiastically spend

o their ree time investigating along with ed

the community, SIGN has been chosen as No

bers Spotlighted Group. To say that SIGN is in

one o the Crme Del La Crme o investigati

nless we ip on the news and

hy judge what we dont know?

    en Orbdog presentsis Experiments with

Orbsne has to have a passion as to what orbs are. Es

ntially they are like most o us, whether human,

nimal, mammal or creatures and the insects. One

oesnt have to go very ar, just look into the eatures

an orb. To me these eatures can represent a soul

anything that was living and the images are much

ke a photo album or memory that is close to that

oul or spirit. These orbs are not here as in real time

everyone could see them. These are very much

mensional and they will bleed into our dimensions

their will or power. We have no control over them

how they do it... but one could control them to re

pond by interaction and provoking these energies.

hey can act as a guide and give warnings ahead o

me. Many people are actively i nteracting with orbs

nd everyone has their own way to do so. I did mine

an experiment and continue to do so. One thing

did learn rom this was you needed a passion and

ommitment to reach urther and nd the truth. I

und not only the colored orbs, there were more in

ore. There were the black orbs and the large mass

ze orbs. The other interesting thing was the shad

w people that seem to ap pear and the orbs were

one and nowhere to be seen. Why this happens,

at part Im still working on. I have currently beenoing some experiments on provoking the energy

ith some good success and have some vi deos and

    VPs rom those experiments.

have been doing many dierent experiments and

the same location or years where it is active. At

e same time I have ound many i nteresting things

oncerning orbs, or instance there is a cycle period

when activity happens and then there i s the quiet

period (or example a grinding wheel where nothing

happens until one applies the metal to the rotating

stone and sparks happen and when it is taken o

then the sparks stop. This is so much like the dimen

sional wheel when it enters our domain. Pressure is

added and the activity will be there until the dimen

sion is released. I one was to go and do an investi

gation during an active cycle you would get results.

I the cycle lasted 4 days, then the 3rd day into the

cycle would be the most powerul day, but o course

when you investigate youll need to do it or 4 days

pointing indeed. So it is important to know about

these cycles and when it is ac tive. I must say these

cycles are unpredictable. As a seer I can see when

the cycle arrives and when it i s gone. This helps me

plan my next steps on experiments and or the type

o equipment I could use. This does give me a huge

advantage in preparedness. I have ound during the

active cycles EVPs that were crazy ater a bi t o pro

results can be disturbing and I ound the only way

to get rid o these bad energies was to wait or the

cycle to end. I have seen some amazing large mass

and I am currently experimenting with them.

    Orb Communication

ommunication is what everyone living on the

anet does with one another, but communicat

g to orbs? I may sound like I have lost my entire

ind but that is or one to judge, but dont take this

ghtly. Just because you couldnt communicate to

em doesnt mean I cant. So what is the easiest

ay to communicate to orbs? Tricky? Not really. All

ou have to do is be creative; like play hide and seek

nd watch behind your back because orbs can be

ayul. Why? Because they are your riends at best.

ow can one earn their riendship? It depends on

e individual that wants to make contact with them.

o lets start o with something simple, like tell

em you believe in them and say this a ew times

nd while taking photos, then watch what happens.

sk them to show you their magic; maybe you will

e the light o day in ront o you. You need to be

pen with them and once they eel you are not one

reject them they will show you things you never

ver thought possible. I tried this and got great

sponses. In act I even decided to test them on lots

video and i t is truly insane what you would nd

bout them. I did or days i n and days out or months

king them questions and established a 1 knock or

es and 2 knocks or no; craz y? Not at all as I heard

e knocks and the videos heard my question and

    e knocks back.

k then lets move onto how smart they are. I tried

gure out and ater doing several experiments I

me up with a oolproo one where the orb would

ave to do a loop beside or around my nger.

    RANORMAL EDUCATION

Do you think this is insane? I may surprise you. In act

on video I have them doing it on 3 dierent days.

And on 3 other days they did it without me asking

them to do it. You still think this is crazy or coinci

dence? I have many more experiment results that

wont even be mentioned as I try to ma ke it as simple

as possible or most to understand.

In conversations with other people around the worldI have been told that they can see them visually, di

erent than what I can see them.

I dont dispute this as it is possible. I am not the only

person on the planet that can see them but in all, we

can and will see them in b lack and white or colors or

otherwise. So i this is happening is this dust or other

particles in the air that appear so big, or are our eyes

seeing objects that are not really there? Ok lets get

the camera out and chase these objects as we see

them moving and I can show you a n orb or another

entity that was there. I I was taking p hotos some

where and did not see any objects and take a photo

and look there is nothing. Why is that? And i I take

photos o a dusty place and still see nothing with my

eyes and get lots o orbs, what do es that tell you? I

cant see the dust but the camera did (with ash).

I one can see these o bjects with their own eyes and

do not appear to have any color to them but ap

pear bubble like and transparent but still visible in

the dark, then what makes people think a camera

can see them without the ash? (Im not saying it i s

impossible to capture orbs without ash as I can see

some during the day) but with the ash there will be

some object or the reection so the camera can see

it and this time it even picks up the color. I my eyes

had a ash pack i n them then I would most likely see

the color o the object. So yes it is true, particles andother objects get reected during ashes and the

only problem is that the debunkers dont realize that

the same thing happens with orbs and other objects.

Lets look at this in a little dierent way. Grab an

external ash pack and in one hand use the test pilot

burst and with your camera in your other hand shut

o the ash on the camera. You will be taking photos

in the dark and the camera will see nothing. Now

time the external ash burst with the camera shut

ter. You may have to do this several times to get the

timing. You hold the external away rom the camera

one oot then arther to arm stretch away and the

photo will be a dierent brightness as you move

the ash arther away and even be hind you. You can

still get orbs, so are these particles right in ront o

the lens? And heres another thing to think about,

how ar away did you see that tiny ash (spark) rom

the camera? That can vary as where the o bject was.

In reality, i the orb is round like a bubble the only

reection would be the closest point (curvature) onthe object to reect back as the light would bend

around the edges and in the photo the orb is there

complete as the orb also absorbed the light. So we

have some sticky points here or the dust theory.

Ater reading what I have said, lets take a step back.

You must always be a skeptic, yet at the same time

believe they exist because i you o nly see one side

then you will not see the truth.

    I asked some riends what they thought orbs were;

    The Paranormal Explorer M

some didnt know and one priest thinks they

its, another riend (a religious one) thinks the

souls. A native riend calls them little people,

religious riends says they are evil spirits that

bring harm and or me to be careul. Another

thinks they are alien. So we really dont know

Ater some interesting acts and experiment

    only you can decide.

I these orbs were present in all the photos as

ticles then why are the camera companies sti

selling these cameras? Most likely, because t

a continuing problem as orbs dont show up

majority o worldwide photos and only unde

treme conditions. They, too, cant explain why

normal conditions, orbs appear and yet, mor

pear at haunted areas or cemeteries or o ther

    active locations.

Next month I will continue the discussion o o

and their creation o ectoplasm. Until then, g

camera out and start experimenting. You, too

    just well believe.

    Paranormal ObsessionBy Scott Haire

    Image Jezebel www.deviantart.com/jezebel

Does excessive behavior with the paranormal exist?

First o let me say that the contents o this article

are my opinion on this subject. As ar as I know,

there has been no act based correlation that what

I am about to say i s true in any way. This topic came

about in a weird way actually. I was thinking o all

the shows on TV and talking to a riend o mine

when he said something that surprised me a little.

They started talking about how the paranormal eld

became an obsession to the point that it started to

aect their lie adversely in ways I never would have

thought o beore that conversation; their relation

ships with riends, wives, husbands, kids, all being

strained because o their need to talk to the dead. I

started to think about that and wonder how likely

it is that a hobby like paranormal research could

become an obsession to a individual, and then even

get to a point where the i ndividual would want

to join them to see or themselves prematurely. A

dark thought I know, but when you look at it a littledeeper you can see that the chances o it happening

to someone you know are not hard to athom at all,

rather it could be a likelihood that none o us would

ever see until it was too late.

We all know what it was like the rst time we cap

tured that rst EVP or ound that unexplainable

anomaly in a video or photo. Whether it was ex

plained later or not, it was a rush like we never had

beore in some cases. My rst I remember like it was

yesterday. Mysel, and ellow coounder o CCPS

(Central Connecticut Paranormal Society) were sit

ting in a burial ground over 300 years old here in

my home town. It was daylight and we were just

checking out the terrain and looking or hazards or

a possible night investigation later in the month.

Being new at all this and having new digital record

ers and cameras we decided to have a little practice

run and conduct an EVP session, not really expecting

to capture anything because it was daytime (what

can I say we didnt know much back then). When Icame home o course excited to discover i I cap

tured anything, I turned around and listened to the

audio recording o the session right away. At one

point you hear Dan ask, Can you show us a sign o

your presence? Sitting there listening closely I hear

something I did not athom I would ever hear at that

point; a voice not b elonging to either o us stating

You should know o our presence! Completely

taken o guard, I uttered a ew words I cant repeat

here and then needed to change my shorts! I

Dan going OH MY GOD YOU NEED TO HEAR

Im sure you can all relate and have a similar s

mine and probably in some cases a better on

what I remember in all the stories I have hear

having our proverbial paranormal virginity ta

was that they all ended with the same words

that point I was hooked. Now Im not saying

are all obsessed with this eld or we all will b

that way, but I think about my time in this e

I can think o one time where I can say my pa

mal hobby did become a small case o obses

me. I started watching nothing but paranorm

shows, reading books solely on the paranorm

listening religiously to paranormal radio. It be

an obsession to know and learn everything I

sibly could about the subject and eld. I real

was living a lot with the dea d and orgot that

still a member o the living or now. So I makenow to always remember just what side o th

I am still on; remembering Ill have plenty o t

ponder the other side at a much later date.

When that span o time was over a nd I realize

I was doing to mysel and others because o

actions, I wondered how bad a condition like

could get when it came to something like the

normal. I know people can become obsesse

people (both amous and not), places, cars, sp

etc., but could the extremes o obsession be

the investigator that alls too ar to one side o

line? Thinking about it, all the possibilities do

People with obsession tend to push riends,

and loved ones away; their lie proessionally

begins to ail as they may lose their job or sta

ail in their studies. They may begin to turn in

and become very introverted as they slide de

into the darkness, and even consideration o

attempts to join the departed may come i th

    goes to deeper

I could be acting like I know what Im talking

and give you step by step directions on what

i you see similar behavior in one o your sta

bers or riends, but when I think about it, I am

way near to having one o those ancy pieces

per on my wall telling me I am qualied to do

instead Im going to explain what I did when

ized my own problems and what I did to help

hen I started to realize I was

bsessing with this eld I denied

y own conclusions at rst, but

hen I looked at mysel and my

alized that it was true. So I did the

e time and got mysel out o the

do it this way and I knew that

ying to gure out another way

    ould be ludicrous. My prescrip

e living world, heavy doses o

    mily, riends, working out, and

etting back to my other hobbies

ke shing and enjoying nature.hen I did this I started to realize

ow much I was missing in the liv

g world and how precious it was.

    emembered that lie is nothing

waste and to embrace every day I have and never

aste the opportunities I have to live each day. It

so transormed me rom a simple ghost hunter (no

ense) looking to get a scare to a ull on researcher

anting to know why the activity was present in that

cation. I started to look more into the history o lo

tions, the lie o the people that lived and worked

ese locations, and the experiences and incidents

at happened that would give the property the psy

hic energy or the haunting to emerge and persist. I

arted also nding mysel more on a spiritual level.

is unny how people like to say that the paranor

al pulls you away rom your spiritual sel when in

y experience it is the exact opposite.

o what is a tting conclusion to this article? Do I

ave a great line like in some o my other articles toake it all come together in a ew keystrokes o the

eyboard? Not Really, I just know since I have expe

enced this I wonder i others have as well, I wonder

an unexplained suicide could be linked to this

ork and i they could have been helped i possible

cts could have led them to this conclusion. I k now

ese questions and conclusions may make some

eople leery or a little unnerved that I am talking

bout them, but i we dont bring possible questions

to the light we will have to wait until a tragic event

or them to be suraced. So I hope you think about

what Ive said and i you know someone who may be

showing behavior unlike them due to such an obses

sion, make the eort to assist them in nding the

help they need so they can remember to live the lie

we have. We will all have those answers one day in

ovember marks a time o giving thanks, the hall

ark holiday o Thanksgiving: Celebrating the nal

arvest o the season, and indulging in gluttony. The

    nglish gluttony is derived rom the Latin gluttire;

swallow. The seasonal changes are marked with

brightorange ag o capitalism. Depending on

here you live, there may not be the apparent transi

ons rom Summer to Autumn, so many, like mysel,e the indicators when retail stores pack away all

e Summer wares, to bring in the procession o

easonal materialism. The rows o plastic pumpkins,

k owers, wreaths that imitate the Autumn oli

ge, little wooden Pilgrims with their First American

iends in tow, paper turkeys used as di ning table

enterpieces, and all the dinner xings are show

sed with decorative raming. By the time you are

ble to acclimate to your new environment, here

omes Christmas! At times, its dicult to swallow.

ear ater year, the pages o the calendar turn, and

ese holidays are a way to make the annual bump

nd grind bearable. Something un and estive to

eak up the monotony; otherwise youll go mad.

onic that the holidays turn holydays into shopping

enzy and peacocking your nest dish, which will

ost likely be enjoyed with relatives you barely com

unicate with throughout the year. Oh these holi

ays, how they bring us all together! [Insert nger

wirl here] November to me is a time to give thanksyour allen ancestors. Why November? While I

actice ancestor worship daily, its time to really

ve the dead their due. November 1st and 2nd kicks

the celebration o Dia Da Los Muertos (Day o the

ead). Mexicos continuing tradition o their A ztec

ncestors who dominated MesoAmerica around the

5th century. According to the Aztec Solar Calendar

was celebrated all month long on the 9th month

ugust). It has become a National Holiday thats dat

ing is in conjunction with the Catholic Holydays o

All Saints Day on the 1st o November, and All So uls

Day on the 2nd. This appeals to my overall aesthetic

and the prolic symbolism o my choosing. Symbol

ism by which I provoke mysel into taking a ctions

on my own behal. Dia Da Los Muertos is another

    opportunity to practice Memento Moritem.

    October and All

    Hallows Eve (Octo

    ber 31st), is thought

    to be a continuing

    tradition o Sam

    hain, a Celtic holi

day to mark the end o summer. The term Samhain is

rst documented around the 19th century; the datescoincide with both All Saints Day, and All Souls Day

which can be traced back to early Christianity and

the start o 7th century. The symbolism however, is

parallel with the traditions o the Aztecs rom the

15th century as well as Catholicism postSpanish

conquests. So you begin to see a pattern o cross

culturalism. Placing a candle inside JackoLanterns

is much like the candles placed inside the skulls o

the dead. The Aztecs wore wooden masks and elabo

rate ritual embellishments to dance or them. Much

like the costumes we wear at Halloween. One o the

practices in use by modern pagans i s the prepara

tion o the Dumb Supper. An altar is set up to honor

your ancestors and a place set at the di nner table

or them to dine with you. For those that believe

the souls o the dead can wander i n and out o this

world, the veil between the worlds o the living a nd

the dead is believed to be its thinnest on All Hallows

Eve. The dead are ree to roam and seek out their

    loved ones.

The very idea that displaced spirits roam about gave

rise to a sense o uneasiness. Who is watching me?

Especially i you played any role in their death or

crossed them in any way while they were living. Guilt

and ear most certainly play a role in superstitious

belie. What you believe to be true shapes your world

view. It is thought to be the catalyst or using Jack

oLanterns and costumes to scare o the dead; the

opposite eect desired. Its not so strange to observe

Photo credit: Archivo de Miguel Covarrubias, Universi

    Americas, Puebla

how symbols and celebrations change with t

    lies o the people.

While Dia Da Los Muertos is generally a 2 day

ebration, the Aztecs celebrated it all month lo

you happen to be a specic denomination o

tian and honor the All Saints Day and All Sou

observance its a great time to give both the

and Souls your thanks. Hey, theyve been wo

hard all year intercessing on your behal! Not

idea to thank them, or else come Samhain, th

    pay you a visit.

A closer examination o the belie systems o

Aztecs will demonstrate that the bones were

in daily lie, but when someone died, bones w

not used to mark their death. Instead, depic t

o living activities were placed on grave mark

because in Aztec cosmology the living were m

rom the bones o the dead. In past articles Icussed the symbolism tied to Mictecacihuatl

Muerte) who is the keeper o the bones. She

in the Underworld and is considered to be th

Death. Her job is to watch over the bones and

with them; which is why you see her present

symbols displayed during any Dia Da Los Mu

celebration. For a more indepth explanation

symbols, I reer you to my article entitled Mic

    huatl, Sante Muerte.

low me, i I may, to take you on a journey; into my

ast. Perhaps then, you may begin to understand.

When I was 29 years old I began actively hunting

or a house. The perect little abode to call my very

own. I looked at countless homes and it wasnt until

I arrived at my present residence did I nd it. Dur

ing the closing the previous owner commented that

when she saw my name on the application she knew

I would be the person to buy it. How did she know?

We shared the same last name. Her maiden name

was Jones. To her, this was a sign. I just nodded and

smiled, or me this was purely coincidental. The rea

son I chose the house was it had all o the elements I

wanted that were on my check list. I wanted a ga

rage so I could turn it into an art studio, a back yard

bigger than a postage stamp or trance work and

digging in the dirt, a replace, and an eatin kitchen.Discussing it with my real estate agent, she asked me

i I believed in a te. I told her that our actions drive

outcomes and I dont think anything is predestined.

No matter how weird things are, they can always get

weirder. The word weird is rooted in wer- to turn or

bend. The weirdness then is the bending o yoursel.

The sel, can appear constant, but like the 3 Fates, there

are parts o you that are not known until someone

or something touches the pulse o thatportion. The

destiny o man (Wyrd) may be pre-determined by that

catalyst at rst glance, but you have the power to tempt

the ates. Do you revel against it or the sake o that

alone or do you allow yoursel to bend? - SIN JONES on

    Fate.

I believe there are instances when ate has its nger on

the pulse o man, a willul man, one that takes actions

on his own behal may allow himsel to bend to get

a glimpse o a uture he may not have considered or

himsel. Tempting the ates is an exploration i nto pos-

    sible outcomes.

The yard was o satisactory size and she was an

avid gardener. The house had a enced o vegetable

garden. This was alluring to me as a city girl; I didnt

know a thing about raising vegetables, I gured

water it and it will grow right? Wrong. The garden

died beore I was able to harvest it. I gured I wouldlevel it and start over in the Spring. There was an

enormous catnip bush growing near the gate and I

did not have any cats at the time, so I dug it up or

more space. When I was pulling up the roots, I dug

up what I thought were seashells. I had a big one in

my hand and turned it over, ack! It was a cat skull.

The catnip bush must have been a memorial to the

previous owners pet. I collected all the bones and

put them in a shoe box. I had planned on reburying

them in some area o the yard. I placed the shoe

box on my picnic table but got so busy in the yard I

gured Id bury them the next day. The ollowing day

I went outside to retrieve the box and there it was

on the table where I had let it. Problem was there

were no bones inside. I looked on the ground to see

i it had been knocked over but it was rather odd

that the lid was rmly in place. I ound not a single

bone. The box was clean, not even any dirt granules.

I asked my son about it, thought he may have done

something with them ater school beore I got home.

He didnt know anything about it. I looked a roundthe yard to see i there was a ny way to scale my 6

privacy ence, and the gate was still locked. I was

completely perplexed but gured the mystery would

    unravel at a later time.

A ew days later, Im in the bathroom and I see some

thing run down the hall. I thought or sure a stray

had made its way into the house; I swore I saw a

at much was clear. I even tried picking him up and

rrying him in to show him all was well. Bones was

ot having it, he would screech and skidattle with

e quickness. He did however enjoy lounging in the

allway between what I called The 4 Corners. The

allway split o into 4 dierent rooms; The Room,

y sons bedroom, my bedroom and the bathroom.

e sat very majestically and my riend spoke o the

ominion o cats, Egyptian mythology, and how this

t is somehow acting out o its divine nature. Im

eptical about the correlations people make rom

ast to present, and the drive behind belie. Dont

istake my skepticism or cynicism. The only thing

ertain in this lie is death. I acknowledge that there

e plenty o things Ill never have answers to. Im

erectly happy with I dont know. Maybe someday

will know, but i I remain in a state o wonderment

bout unexplained events, I am ne with this. Lie is

    ll o it.

wish the story ended pleasant, but the act o the

atter is it does not. Bones peculiar behavior es

lated until he attacked my son in such a violent

anner I had no choice but to nd him a new home.

ats are ckle and have an erratic nature I know

is to be true. Bones and his actions were not typi

    l. One day my son poked his head in my studio to

ll me something and Bones came out o nowhere,

aled my sons body and dug his claws deeply into

s esh. He proceeded to attack my son as i he

ere deending me against some predator. My son

reamed out. I couldnt get to him ast enough to

op the attack. By the time I got to Dillon, the dam

ge was done and Bones took o into hiding. My son

crying hysterically, I calm him down and tend to

s wounds. Im in awe o what just happened. I told

y son that I thought it was time or Bo nes to move

    n. He agreed. An associate o mine was great with

ral cats so she oered to take Bones in or me. She

ormed me that Bones was adopted with ull disosure and he was doing well with his new amily.

hen I think back on the events, I cant help but

huckle to mysel and imagine a displeased Sa nte

uerte taking the journey o the bones [sounds like

    Scooby Doo episode doesnt it?].

    my minds eye, I can see the pathology o belie;

ow belie drives perception and what it all means at

the end o the day. Its natural. There are some ques

tions which may not have answers but can certainly

be explained by whatever reasoning a person nds

comort. Perhaps the previous home owner ound

comort in knowing someone o her kin would be

taking possession o it. Or my riend ound answers

to the mystery o the disappearing bones as a sign o

divine intervention. Im setting up altars and pouring

shots or dead relatives, and this can be justied by

my driving passion to live agai nst nature. The occult

is a way to shape reality to compel true Will vs. auto

mation and unwillul acts. Do I believe my ather is in

    some betweentheworlds location patiently waiting

or my annual visit? No. Do I b elieve that what Im

doing is manipulating my psyche to drive my true

Will? I certainly do. Plus, it makes lie much more

colorul. So pull up a chair or your old dead Granny,

she may be coming to dinner.

    Belie is Reality.

his began my long and loving path to Voodoo. I

ad a name. I had a place to begin to search out the

    why o the visits.

In New Orleans style o Voodoo, the Ghede Spir

its, whom Baron Samedi is the chie o, are where

we get our primary healing and protection ener

gies. As I was always a healer/protector by nature,

this insured that I would be a Child o the Ghede

or Barons Child in the Voodoo community. So

much so, that even walking into Voodoo Ceremo

nies where I knew no one at all, i one o the Ghede

Spirits began to ride someone as horse (what those

outside o Voodoo call possession), that particular

Ghede Spirit would call me Ti Ghede (Little Ghede,

or as weve come to understand over the years,

    Ghede Jr).

Here would be a good time to break down the 7

Primary Arican Powers according to the path o

    Voodoo which I personally ollow:

    * Ellegua/Papa Legba: Ellegua is the Spirit o Com

munication and the Opener o the Doors. As such,

Ellegua is ALWAYS entreated rst in ceremony so

that things will ow smoothly and move through

its proper order. Imagery used to represent Papa

Legba are St Michael because he IS a Warrior Spirit

and Messenger o the Spirit Realms and St Peter be

cause he is the Door Opener, opening and PROPERLY

closing doors or us as needed throughout our lives.

    * Obatala.: Obatala is said to rule all heads because

he is the Father o Wisdom and Knowledge. He

represents balance in all things and is the consum

mate healer. Obatala is oten called Obatala o the

White Robes due to his purity o spirit and his love

o the healing arts. Imagery or Obatala is Our Lady

    o Mercy.

    * Ogun/Papa Ogou: Ogun is the primal man o the

deep woods who teaches us to build, arm, create

and use tools and because o this, he is the Father o

Technology. Ogun is also the General o the Warrior

Spirits (Chango, Ellegua and Ochosi are also Warrior

Spirits) and as such protects those who act a s First

Responders to any crisis; military personnel and lawenorcement ocials. Imagery or Ogun is St Antho

    ny and especially St George.

    * Yemaya: Yemaya is the Eternal Mother. She is

nurturing, strong, loving, caring, wise, healing and

discerning. Yemaya is oten sought out to ease tur

moil in the home, dissipate disputes between a m

ily members, see to the saety o the children, and

insure the prosperity o the ENTIRE home. Ima gery

or Yemaya is Mary, Star o the Sea.

    * Oya: Oya is the Queen o the Cemeteries, Winds

and Hurricanes, and the Market Places. She is seen

as the Mother o Memory and is an important

Spirit to turn to during intellectual endeavors. As

the Queen o the Winds and Hurricanes, she is oten

prayed to by those living in Coastal Areas to evade a

hurricane heading their way. As Queen o the Mar

ket Places, Oya is a power house or women in busi

ness at ANY level. As the Queen o the Cemeteries,

Oya is our ultimate contact with our Ancestor Spirits.

    * Chango.: Chango is the Lord o Fire, Thunder and

Lightning. A Spirit o Justice, he is who we turn to

in matters o court and legal aairs. Chango is also

the representation o male ery passion. So, when

a man has lost his re, Chango is called upon to

help heat him up again. As a Warrior Spirit, Chango

helps to ght quick, erce battles with precision and

nesse. Imagery or Chango is St Jerome and Santa

    Barbara.

    * Oshun.: Oshun is the Arican Orisha o Love

ality, Beauty, Romance and Prosperity. She

the river and sways with all the eminine pow

the world. She is likened to womens myster

seen as the consummate lover. Many a ritua

to her by the banks o the Mississippi, here in

    Orleans.

Each o these 7 Primary Arican Powers carrie

own number, their own day o the week, thei

ritual greetings and, even their own avorite

and animals. And this is just the Arican hal o

    Orleans style o Voodoo.

In the 1800s, during the Haitian Revolution, t

population o New Orleans grew by some 10,

Haitians who brought with them the secrets

tian Vodou. Though much o this was kept se

it, like many other things, ound its way into tOrleans Voodoo scene. I will save this or a la

    ing.

Suce it to say that, like many o the oshoo

the original Ia/Vodun traditions brought ro

to the Western Hemisphere by the slave trad

Orleans style o Voodoo is an amalgam. It re

that it does not have the whole truth o God,

ery time it nds a piece o the truth it draws i

    incorporates it.

I hope dear reader that this helps you to und

a bit more about New Orleans style o Voodo

pertains to the ACTUAL practice and NOT wh

see on TV and in the movies or read in someo

    antastical tale.

    By Martyn Hicks

A ew decades ago here in the UK, any UFOs that

displayed truly magical qualities was reerred to as

having The Oz Factor, the word Oz obviously re

erring to that wonderul 1939 classic movie The

    Wizard o Oz.

What exactly do we mean by a UFO having magical

qualities? You can easily argue that EVERY UFO has

magical qualities, but I would like to take this op

portunity to enlighten you on the most truly magical

UFO sightings and experiences, and with that, the

    most bizarre!

Lets remember that everyday objects that we use

today, or example, TVs, computers, microwave

ovens, would have been looked upon as bei ng truly

magical just 100 years ago. We use the advancement

o science to develop such objects a s computers or

microwave ovens, and who knows where science willlead us in the next 100 years? However, whilst I ac

cept science does have its place i n this world (or any

other), there comes a point that in o rder to advance

the research into the paranormal, you have to leave

your science books behind and instead use intuition,

the human psyche, and the power o the mind in or

der to obtain answers into magical phenomena, a nd

the magical world o UFOs is no dierent.

One case that still totally bafes us uologists to this

day regards the incident that happened in Pennsyl

    vania in 1973. A UFO lands i n a orest (ater a wave

o sightings in the area during 1973), and several

witnesses run into the orest to discover what ex

actly did land. There they observe the landed UFO,

supported on legs with several Bigoot type crea

tures walking around it. And on another occasion,

a Bigoot was seen carrying a n orb o light. Were

these Bigoot the occupants o the UFO, or were they

pawns under some kind o mindcontrol? I ever any

UFO event had the Oz Factor, then this is it! Moreand more UFO reports were coming into the Penn

sylvania State Police Department during 1973 that

they got completely swamped under the sheer num

ber o witness accounts to these aerobatic wonders

    o the sky.

Another bizarre UFO event, yet completely dier

ent in nature to the Pennsylvania event, occurs to a

woman in North London in 1982. She was out walk

ing in a suburb, when suddenly she elt a distinct

change o surroundings and realised that she

actually standing in a desert. She stated that

experience was very real, and she was ully co

scious (as a sceptic would argue she went int

luciddreaming state). She observed a silver

oblong crat ying through the air and notice

had windows. She urther noticed that she co

aces rom within the crat looking out o the

dows, and they appeared to be in a state o e

ment. She is then suddenly back in London!

The most bizarre/magical UFO incident that

personally investigated comes rom an incide

which happened here in the UK in 1953. A co

and I had just nished doing a UFO presenta

a paranormal conerence in 1995 when a lady

proached us who wanted to let us know abou

markable incident that she and her mum wit

o North Devon, UK. The lady requested to n

named in our reports as she was a very popu

business woman in the area. She took us to t

where they observed the incredible, when sh

years old at the time o the event. In her reco

o her experience to us, she could clearly rem

every detail o the event, and she was visibly

tional at recalling this event back to us. She a

mum were walking during an aternoon alon

armyard, visiting riends who ran the arm. T

ticed at the top o a steep eld opposite them

large, round metallic object. It was basically a

sive silvermetallic sphere, about the size o a

What struck them as being equally odd was j

smooth and shiny the surace o this massive

lic ball was. As they watched it, it began to m

very slowly down the steep pasture eld. This

struck them as being most odd, as the large o

should have been rolling down that eld at a

aster speed. There was no sound as it movedapproached the bottom o the eld, what ha

next can only be described as entering the w

the truly antastical! A hole started to appear

bottom o the grass eld, getting gradually b

with the soil being exposed under the grass,

then blackness into the hole. The huge meta

simply rolled down into the hole. The diamet

the hole matched exactly that o the ball a

st place. They told their riends o this remarkable

cident, and thorough ground checks were carried

ut, but nothing unusual was detected. It is my view

at urther research was carried out in secret by the

ilitary, most probably at night so as not to bring

ny unwanted attention to themselves. I wonder

hat they discovered! We interviewed the current

rmer who now resides on the arm, and he told

s that he has not observed a nything unusual since

eing there. We all went to stand on the spot in the

eld where the hole opened up, but it just appeared

be solid ground. I will not speculate here in this

ticle what I believe is the meaning behind this

xtraordinary incident, as it is very important or all

you to reach your own conclusions as to exactly

    hat is going on.

will leave you with one more magical UFO event

om our archives at the Plymouth UFO Research

roup which I investigated; this time, the event

appening on the outskirts o the coastal resort o

aignton in East Devon, UK. I visited the witness

hortly ater his encounter in February 1998 who was

retired Rolls Royce engineer. He was naturally very

ientic minded and did not have any paranormal

experiences until this incident in 1998. He was out

walking his dog on his usual route, along a steep

eld, when suddenly his greyhound dog bolted up

onto its hind legs, standing upright, and just gazing

at a particular spot in the eld. The retired engineer

could not believe how on earth his dog could remain

upright like that without losing its balance. He went

to yank it down by the collar but the dog remained

rigid in its upright position. Then the engineer no

ticed that the spot where his dog was ga zing at sud

denly had 4 white bars o bright light appear, about

a oot o the ground, with each ba r o light being

about 2 eet tall. The bars o light were in a uniorm

position, being at our corners o an empty rectan

gular space. He then noticed the bars o light getting

wider and extending inwards so that they eventually

all merged together orming a rectangular box o

pure white light suspended in mid

air. This box then rotated slowly andbegan moving silently up the eld

and tted perectly through a gap at

the very top o the eld. As it went

out o view his dog got back down

onto all ours and was back to its nor

mal sel. The engineer described that

during the whole event he elt that

he and his dog were the i ntruder, as

i the white light had much more o

a right to be there than he did. Here

was an event o a truly extraordinary

nature being witnessed by a very

    methodical, matteroact gentleman

just going out to walk his dog and be

    ing conronted with something truly

    paranormal and truly magical.

Again, I will leave it to you to decide

exactly what is going on here, and o

course, there are many more magical

UFO events, such as those involvingcontact with the occupants o UFOs,

but I eel that is a dierent article or a

    uture issue!

I will nish this article by saying that surely, i we are

to start getting any answers into the paranormal,

then perhaps we should leave the dogma o estab

    lished science behind us.

    Keep watching the skies!

    The MysteriousLizzie Borden

ets travel back in time to a sleepy town known as

all River located in the grand state o Massachu

tts; back to 92 Second Street to a time where his

ry was borne o a murder that was so mysterious it

as been reviewed and debated or over a hundred

    ears.

zzie Borden, daughter o Andrew Borden and step

aughter to his second wie, Abby, stands accused

    1893 o murdering her parents in August o 1892.

om this accusation came the inamous rhyme:

    Lizzie Borden took an axe,

And gave her mother orty whacks,

When she saw what she had done,

    She gave her ather ortyone.

though in truth the Bordens were actually

    hacked a combined 29 times instead o the 81

mes suggested in the macabre childrens rhyme,

the trial that ensued became a media renzy; one

that went down in history making her quite the

notorious gure in America. Her story has b een told

and retold with documentaries and programs relay

ing the acts which unolded during the inamous

    trial o Lizzie Andrew Borden.

As the story goes, on August 4, 1892 Lizzies ather,

Andrew, had returned home midmorning ater run

ning errands. Bridget Maggie Sullivan, the a mily

maid, recalls the event o that ateul morning. She

tells o being summoned by a hysterical Lizzie who

claimed someone had entered their home a nd killed

    her ather.

Andrew Borden lay slumped on a soa in the down

stairs sitting room as i he had been asleep, his ace

butchered almost beyond recognition. According to

the Fall River Herald, one reporter who had visited

the grisly crime scene described Bordens ace as

    By Belle Salisbury

    id She, oridnt She?

sickening. He stated, Over the let temple a wound

six by our had been made as i it had been pounded

with the dull edge o an axe. The let eye had been

dug out and a cut extended the length o the nose.

The ace was hacked to pieces and the blood had

    covered the mans shirt.

It was not until ater the Fall River police had arrivedand investigated the scene that the body o Mrs.

Borden was discovered in the guest bedroom up

stairs by a kind neighbor who had arrived to console

the distraught Lizzie. Both Andrew and his wie had

been killed by crushing blows to their head rom

what was believed to be a hatchet.

Amid the vast rumors that ew rom neighboring

tongues, the Fall River police determined that the

murders must have been committed by someone

within or closely associated with the Borden home

stead. Ater a police inquest, and the questioning

o those within the home on that ateul day; Lizzie

Borden, Bridget Sullivan, house guest John Morse

and a ew others, it was nally decided that Lizzie,

based on some rather contradictory answers to their

examination, was arrested and charged with the

    murder o her parents.

Lizzie entered a plea o Not Guilty to the ridiculous

charges and awaited a Grand Jury trial. Her trial be

gan on June 5, 1893, acing three judges and twelve

men which made up the jury who would decide her

    ate.

Witnesses were called rom both the prosecution

and the deense o which a presentation o conict

ing accounts o the days beore, during, and ol

lowing the gruesome murders was discussed. Most

o what was presented during her trial was merely

    speculation, rumors, and circumstantial.

In the trials conclusion her deense attorney,

Jennings argued, There is not one particle o

evidence in this case rom beginning to end a

Lizzie A. Borden. There is not a spot o blood,

is not a weapon that they have connected w

in any way, shape or ashion. And then to co

    the deenses argument, Governor Robinson

that the state had ailed to meet its burden o

beyond a reasonable doubt against his client

Borden, citing their theory that Lizzie might h

avoided getting blood on her clothing by kill

her parents while stark naked was ridiculou

insisted that it was literally physically imposshis client to have committed such a crime wi

the timeline suggested by the prosecution. H

gested that it was more likely that intruders m

entry into the Borden home, committed the d

murders, and then let the house undetected

The jury was then let to their deliberations o

ate o Lizzie Borden. They returned ater just

hour and a hal with a verdict o Not Guilty!

was ree to return to her home with her sister
