Traffic Movement Around the School As discussed in an earlier newsletter Salisbury Council has been investigating traffic flow and parking around the school to optimise travel and parking behaviour during school peak drop-off and pick-up periods in order to improve student safety. The Council is proposing to install ‘Kiss and Drop’ zones on Whites Road and Correena Avenue. ‘Kiss and Drop’ zones encourage those dropping-off or picking-up students in motor vehicles to utilise particular areas for this purpose and then quickly move-on. This proposal has the benefits of: more efficient traffic flow and reductions in any congestion; more opportunity to drop-off and pick-up students closer to the school grounds; and increases to road safety. ‘Kiss and Drop’ zones feature the signage below, along with dashed yellow lines on the road pavement for the extent of the zone. The NO PARKING symbol means you may stop for a maximum of two minutes and the driver must be no more than three metres from the vehicle. EL3 AND ROOM 7 SWEET STALLOn Friday the 11th of November Paralowie R-12 Schoolcelebrated World Kindness Day. EL3 and Room 7 decided thatthey wanted their act of kindness to be a donation to charity.Students voted on various ways in which the money could beraised and who they would donate the money to. They decidedto hold a sweet stall and give all proceeds to UNICEF andAnimal Welfare League. Students from both classes made jellyand biscuits for the stall and many parents donated sweets.

It was great to see the amount of support from all students andstaff for the stall. In total the sweet stall raised $155.10. Not onlywere students buying sweets but, many also did not want theirchange or gave more than was necessary. This was a beautifulgesture to see.

Thank you to all those involved in donating food, spending timeorganising the event and helping out on the day. We could nothave done it without your support.

HAYLEY COLLIER, SAMANTHA MUIR AND EDDYSPEAR

I would like to thank the staff, students and community for theirsupport. The profit from this event will go towards supportingchildren in need through St Vincent de Paul’s and providingleadership opportunities with the Halogen Foundation for ourprimary and high school students over the next twelve monthsto two years.

We will be selling sausages and drinks on the day of the primaryconcert in week nine and after that we will have a final total, butat this stage we have made between $3500 and $4000 whichis a brilliant effort.

YEAR 8 STUDENTS HAVE POSITIVEEDUCATION EXPERIENCE

On Friday the 11th November, all Year 8 Students took partin the 'Year 8 Positive Education Experience'. This was held

on the school oval and involved participating in three stationsrun by Wilderness Escapes and one station by Miss Stuart andMiss Higginson.

The stations included the Billy Cart Construction and Racing,Save Your Village, Problem Solving Activities and Team Workand Mindfulness Challenge.

The purpose of the day was to introduce Year 8's to PERMA+ (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning andAccomplishment PLUS Optimism, Physical Activity, Nutritionand Sleep) and all activities required students to work on theseaspects.

All stations required students to work as a team to get throughthe challenges. It was fantastic to see all students cooperating, enjoying themselves, challenging their perceptions and makingnew connections. It was a highly successful day and we lookforward to the Year 8's of 2017 also taking part.

In the spirit of World Kindness Day, Mrs Sandy Stuart and herYear 11 Community Studies students along with Mr GeorgeGenimahaliotis, put on a BBQ lunch for the Year 8 staff andstudents which they enjoyed. The Year 10 Positive EducationMentors also supported the Year 8 Home Groups throughoutthe day with the challenges and established friendships acrossthe year levels.
