Republic Day Celebrations

Page 3  VOLUME 3, ISSUE 3

The 26th of January was cele- brated with great pomp andshow at IIM Ranchi. Students, teachers and staff all cametogether to recognize and payhomage to the day we brought

true sovereignty to our greatnation, bringing into effect theConstitution of India. Thecelebrations kicked off withthe hoisting of the tricolor byDr. Pradeep Kumar Bala, theDean (Academics) at IIM Ran-chi. Dr. Bala then gave a rous-ing speech about this day, asking the question of whether

we truly are a republic. Heextolled everyone to take re-sponsibility to make the coun-try one for all classes, and not

just the privileged. The ques-tions asked by sir in his speechstirred all those who werepresent. This was followed bya speech by Mr. J. Gabriel(Administrative Officer) atIIM Ranchi, wherein he in-spired the students to taketheir country to better heights

via their hard work, dedica-tion and perspiration.

This was followed by a shortcultural program, kicked off

by Ms Ankita Thakur, a 2nd

year PGDM student at theinstitute, whose melodious

and heart- wrenching rendi-tion of “ Ae Mere Watan KeLogon” tugged at the heart-strings of one and all present. This was followed by Prof Ma-nas performing a mellifluous

performance of “Mera MulkMera Desh.” The celebrationended with a surprise, as DrBala surprised everyone withhis unbelievable rendering of“Miley Sur Mera Tumhara.”

But alongside all the fun andgames, the students of IIMRanchi did not forget theirsocial responsibility. Samar-pan, the Social Responsibility

Club of IIM Ranchi, in associ-ation with RIMS and Life Sav-ers Ranchi, a voluntary blooddonors group, organized a

blood donation camp in ourKhelgaon premises. Students

turned up in numbers, and theevent was a success, with 36donors donating 12 litres of

blood. The smile and joy ofgiving was evident on the fac-es of our donors. We hope thatthese traditions will continue, making our Republic Day not

just a national holiday, but aday we look back upon as aday well and meaningfullyspent.

IIM Ranchi Participates in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Page 4  VOLUME 3, ISSUE 3

The country needs not onlythinkers, but the ones whoconvert thoughts and wordsinto action. And on the 17th ofJanuary our students decidedto “do”, rather than speak.Samarpan, the Social Respon-sibility Club of IIM Ranchiorganized a campaign atGanbari village, near Dipatoli,Ranchi, in conjunction withDramebazz, the IIM RanchiDramatics SIG. The event be-gan with the members ofDramebazz and Samarpanexhorting the local villagers to

join them at the main villagesquare. The Dramebazz team

then presented a Nukkad Na-tak on the importance of keep-ing the country clean, andtried to spread awarenessabout the Swachh Bharat Ab-hiyan.

The Samarpan team then dis-tributed brooms to the local

ward councillor and villageelders, and spoke at lengthabout the message of our Hon.Prime Minister, Mr. NarendraModi, and the dangers associ-ated with keeping our sur-

roundings unclean. The wardcouncillor spoke to the teams, and informed them of all the

steps that were being taken bythe village administration toimplement these campaigns intheir village. It was hearteningto watch the little children inthe area cheer the team on asthey left, and promise to trytheir best to never dirty theirarea again.

While management studentsrarely ever have enough freetime to indulge in anythingother than the rigorous aca-demic demands of such aprestigious course, it was de-

lightful and moving to seestudents take time out to

spread a message that is ex-tremely important. If we, theeducated intelligentsia of thecountry do not take the initia-tive in matters such as this, these plans will forever beconsigned to files and offices. Our returning students tootook a pledge to go back soon, and try and educate more peo-ple about the Swachh Bharat

 Abhiyan.

Letter from the Editor

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, RANCHI

The ninth Indian Institute of Management was established at Ranchi in 2010. This was made possiblewith the extensive support of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Government of Jhar-

khand, working under the guidance of Ministry of HRD, Government of India.

We started at a time when competition and aggression was prevalent in management education. Understand-

ing the need to incorporate right values in young minds, IIMR was started to incorporate right values in

young minds and impart education for the information age that encourages networking and collaborative

advantage.

IIM Ranchi currently offers a two year PGDM in General management and another two year fulltime

programme in Human Resources Management (PGDHRM), Fellow Program in Management and 18

month part time Diploma in Management (PGEXP).

Our Programs are different and we are an institute with a difference.

“It was the best of times, it wasthe worst of times, it was the ageof wisdom, it was the age offoolishness, it was the epoch of

belief, it was the epoch of incre-dulity, it was the season of Light,it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it wasthe winter of despair, we hadeverything before us, we hadnothing before us, we were allgoing direct to Heaven, we wereall going direct the other way  –  in short, the period was so farlike the present period, thatsome of its noisiest authoritiesinsisted on its being received, forgood or for evil, in the superla-tive degree of comparison only.”

 –  Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

It is tumultuous times we live in. There are roughs and smooths. There are uphill battles anddownward spirals, troughs andhighs galore. And while we at

the Literary Club do not ascribeto any side or ideology exceptliterature and its greatness, wefind that there is no better time

to analyze humanity and the workings of the human mindthan in such times - when chaossupersedes order and becomesthe order of the day.

For history shows us, that thegreatest ideas and the most pow-erful actions are rarely everbrought about in the comfort ofUtopia, but it is rather likelierthat in Turgenev’s Fathers andSons, a Bazarov is born, andMarc Antony’s true value is real-

ized only in the aftermath ofCaesar’s assassination. This edi-tion of the Parable is dedicatedto such ideas, they are born onlyto revolutionize and reform.

And such a dedication wouldnot be complete if there was no word to those who conceivethese ideas that change us all. These are often men and women

who never chased ambition. As JK Rowling says, “It is a curiousthing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are

those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have lead-ership thrust upon them, andtake up the mantle because theymust, and find to their own sur-prise that they wear it well.” It isthey who change that which hasstagnated, become maligned.

A toast then, to all these bravemen and women. May yourminds and ideas forever enlight-en us. And for our readers, ahappy reading ahead.
