The traditional farewell cere-mony for the batch of 2014 – ’16 was held at the RanchiGymkhana Club on the 18th ofFebruary, 2016. The alreadycolourful venue became even
more so, as the students walked in dressed in their best, and settled down ingroups around tables. Soonthe discussions, jokes andlaughs brought alive the placeas more and more peoplepoured in. The junior batchhad some fun events planned,
which started off with a short video that captured 2014 – ’16 batch’s two years at IIM Ran-chi.
As the music started, everyone
got to their feet, dancing to thetunes, and taking occasional breaks to chat. It was fun watching students either mov-ing or getting dragged alongfrom one group to the otherand changing the dance stepsto sync with that of the group.
As the evening wore on, danc-ing continued, but the thoughtstarted to weigh heavily oneveryone that soon the batchof 2014 – ’16 would be leavingthe campus and starting off on

Letter from the Editor
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, RANCHI
The ninth Indian Institute of Management was established at Ranchi in 2010. This was made possiblewith the extensive support of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Government of Jhar-
khand, working under the guidance of the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
We started at a time when competition and aggression were prevalent in management education. Under-
standing the need to incorporate right values in young minds, IIMR was started to incorporate right values
in young minds and impart education for the information age that encourages networking and collaborative
advantage.
IIM Ranchi currently offers a two year PGDM in General management and another two year fulltime
programme in Human Resources Management (PGDHRM), Fellow Program in Management and 18
month part time Diploma in Management (PGEXP).
Our programs are different and we are an institute with a difference.

“First they ignore you,
Then they laugh at you,
Then they fight you,
Then you win”
Oft misattributed to the Father
of our Nation, Mahatma Gan-
dhi, the true author of these
words is unknown. What is un-
deniable, however, is the power
and truth behind these words.
The paths to greatness are rarely
ever paved with sandstone and
marble, or lined with shady
trees. It is invariably, a journey.
One that begins as a soft dream,
a whisper that slowly “bewitches
the mind, ensnares the senses”
till one chooses to chase that
dream. It is a journey filled with
questions, doubts and often
outright ridicule. But the prom-
ise of the fruit, the light at the
end of the tunnel is what makes
one choose the road not taken.
And as the class of IIM Ranchi,
2014-16 prepares to take its
leave from this institution, we
wish to remind them of this.
The best of journeys begins with
the softest of admissions. It will
never be a simple, peaceful way,but then, no one ever promised
you that. There is a song by
Semisonic called “Closing
Time”, which says “Every new
beginning comes from some
other beginning’s end.” And this
new beginning will take you to
shores unknown, destinations
undreamt of, and thoughts and
ideas never even imagined be-
fore.
“Possessing what we still were
unpossessed by,
Possessed by what we now no
more possessed,
Something we were withholding
made us weak,
Until we found out that it was
ourselves,
We were withholding from our
land of living,
And forthwith found salvation
in surrender,
Such as we were we gave our-
selves outright”
– Robert Frost
The dream will never be yours
unless you give it to yourself, but
this institution has imparted you
with the tools of knowledge to
now gift yourselves outright the
dream you have chased for
years. We look forward to seeing
you again, and wish you the best
on this journey. As they say,
“Hold on tight, it’s gonna be a
wild ride.”
