probably the most knowntribal gathering and culturalevent in Papua NewGuinea. It is held everyyear close tothe Independence Day(16th September) in thetown of Goroka.



Tari – HabuWith men of the Huli tribe,we see how some men getdressed in

the traditional styleand taste. Tari Is the centreof Huli country in theSouthern Highlandsprovince of Papua NewGuinea. It is the secondlargest settlement in theprovince, and accessible byroad from Mendi.

show their music, danceand culture. This festivalstarted in the mid 1950sfrom the initiative of missionaries. In recentyears it became anattractive tourist destinationbecause it is one of a fewopportunities to see the

traditional tribal culture.



Goroka – Green Spiderman -These days the Goroka show is partly a tourist event, but it’s a rare opportunity for travellers to

experience the customs of over a hundred tribes that populate the Papua New Guinea highlands. During the course of the weekendthe tribes gather for music, dancing, showing-off and extraordinary displays of tribal rituals.

Palua New Guinea – Poroiba – Wigschool The wigmen of the Huli people aren’t like Western toupee manufacturers. They are

wizards who only work with people who have fine heads of hair. What a traditional wigman does is use ancient magic to make hair grow faster than normal so it can be cut off and turned into a wig. Evidently, magic – like hair restorer – doesn’t work if the hair islong gone.



Goroka – De Biami Tribe

The tribesman suggests a forest spirit for those under the spell of a giant snake.This tribe lives in the parent-racy forests of the Western Province.

The Mudmen - Goroka – Papua New Guinea – Festivity of Independence -Yeah, well placed in the scene for the independent party.They belong to a tribe, an ethnic group, the mudmen. Neighborsscratch each other’s names and dressed themselves in the victims

’spirits’ and were dancing on the ground. The Papuans really do believein spirits and their deceased ancestors are kept very much in honor.
