Yes – and it is convenient, simple and cost-effective - if signed

with an electronic handwritten signature.

The handwritten signature is by far the most widely used and

accepted form of authorization and authentication in the business

world. At the same time, it also poses the greatest challenge to

introducing electronic processes since a signature is almost

always required to seal a transaction. Businesses today face the

challenge of cutting operational costs incurred by manual paper-

based processes while maintaining a trustworthy, and yet

convenient equivalent for the most important aspect of a business

transaction: the signing and sealing of a contract.

Documents that require authorization such as contracts, or

endorsements have traditionally been paper-based for purposes of

proving intent. Consequently, organizations are often required to

convert electronic documents to paper to capture a signer‟s intent,

only to have to re-convert them at a later point in time back to

electronic documents for further processing such as archiving.

These conversions, also referred to as media discontinuities,

represent the largest cost factor in electronic document

processing today. The simple solution is to sign the documents

electronically.

SOFTPRO, the world‟s leading provider of signature solutions, is

proud to introduce its unique approach to signing electronic

documents: SignDoc®. The SignDoc product suite enables

businesses to continue using the trusted, and accepted

handwritten signature within electronic documents in a more

secure way than ever before without having to produce any paper.

Businesses around the globe trust SOFTPRO to help them cut

costs, and SignDoc customers are already reaping the benefits of

fully electronic document processes by asking their customers and

employees to…

Paper is expensive.

Stop shredding your earnings. Why bother printing out a document onto paper for signing if it is going to end up being scanned into electronic format, and shredded at a later time anyways? Media discontinuities such as this, cost time and money.

SignDoc allows you to embed handwritten electronic signatures into electronic documents – in a legally binding, trustworthy, and secure manner.

“We prefer the handwritten signature to safeguard the authenticity and integrity of electronic documents. Signing is a common procedure for doctors and other health professionals and does not need to be explained. Handwriting input and handwritten signatures offer a perfect synthesis when organizing a mobile workflow in the hospital. The user experiences no interruption in his accustomed workflow.”

Thomas Kleemann, CIO Ingolstadt Medical Clinic Quotation from the Conference Proceedings of the 9th German Congress on IT-Security of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) 2005, p. 134 about the user acceptance of SignDoc®

“The SOFTPRO software and a Tablet PC have put me on the cutting edge of my industry. My clients love the ease of use and thought it was “so cool” they could sign a contract this way.

The security features and the independent use enables me freedom that normal paper just can‟t do. I can even have my clients sign forms sent to me from other people! It amazes me that this technology is currently available and that not more people are taking advantage of it.

I simply applied the SignDoc software to the Adobe Acrobat Forms made available to me from my associations …This is the future. Thanks SOFTPRO for making me a leader in the Arizona Real Estate Industry.”

Signed …

SignDoc is a solution

for signing and sealing electronic documents in a tamperproof, and legally-binding manner using the biometric characteristics of a person‟s signature. The authenticity of the signature can be verified at any point in time either manually, or using SOFTPRO‟s unique automatic combo-verification to provide a high level of trustworthiness.

After defining a signing area within an electronic document using SignDoc, an authorizing person may sign the document in exactly the same manner that they would sign a piece of paper.

The signature, also known as a dynamic signature, is captured using one of many supported signature capture devices such as a pen pad, a writing tablet or a Tablet PC.

Sealed …

More secure than paper

Once a dynamic signature has been inserted into a document, the document is sealed and can no longer be altered without first removing the authorizing signature. In this way, security against post-signing manipulation is guaranteed.

SignDoc does not lock the document against unintended document changes. However it always keeps a record of the content status of documents, in other words: SignDoc always can display which signature was applied at a certain point in time and which document status was present at the time of signing.

… delivered.

Adaptable to existing processes.

The SignDoc product suite provides add-on components for easily adapting to existing business processes within your organization such as delivery of documents to archival systems, or integration within process workflow.

SignDoc is easy to use and enjoys high user acceptance. Unlike other electronic signing concepts such as public key infrastructures (PKI), no specific technical understanding is required from the signer.

Better than Ink

Biometrics guarantee authenticity.

A dynamic signature captured and embedded with SignDoc looks identical in all respects to a person‟s original wet ink signature. However, it is much more than just an electronic image.

The signature contains biometric information about how the signature was signed such as speed, patterns, habits, and pressure of pen strokes. These characteristics represent a biometric footprint which is unique to every individual and can not be reproduced by a forger.

Unlike other biometric technologies such as fingerprints, facial scan, or iris scan, a dynamic signature is more accessible and accepted because it is non-intrusive and does not convey a sense of criminality.

For this reason, people are less hesitant to use dynamic signatures for completing business transactions than other biometric technologies since signing has already been an accepted form of authentication and authorization for hundreds of years.

In addition to advantages such as the cultural acceptance of signatures, dynamic signatures also offer some of the best biometrics with respect to uniqueness and repeatability thus sealing your transactions in a secure manner and removing any question as to the identity of the signer.

Future-ProofDriving standards

SOFTPRO is active in the national body of the International Standardization Organization (ISO) (The German Institute for Standardization, DIN) to secure its customers‟ investments in dynamic signature applications.

The standard ISO/IEC 19794-7: Biometric data interchange formats –Part 7: Signature/Sign Time Series Data has been largely influenced by SOFTPRO and its research in this area. SOFTPRO fully supports this standard format in its software.

„I downloaded your demo software and it has been great. It operates smoothly and effective. We have given numerous presentations and demonstrated how signature recognition can work. …

…We gave a presentation to a high school where we asked the students to try and break into my Tablet PC. After attempting to duplicate my signature and failing, we offered them my signature on a piece of paper and let them trace over it, again only to fail.“

Chris Cook, Specialist for the evaluation of innovations on usability in the science field of Biometrics at Dakota State University

Page 6: Paperless Signing & Comprehensive Check Fraud Prevention

Reliable Authentication

SignDoc® not only allows you to capture signatures and seal documents, it also enables them to verify the authenticity of the signatures contained within those documents.

The reference signature may be verified against a repository of reference signatures such as SOFTPRO‟s SignArchive®.

This enables so-called pre-embedding verification where a signature is verified against a database of authorized signatories before accepting this signature and embedding it into the document.

The signature can also be verified by visually comparing the characteristics of a signature within a signed document to an original signature. For this purpose SOFTPRO can provide a forensic client called SignAlyze.

SOFTPRO‟s unique signature combo-verification compares both the static image characteristics and dynamic signals to a known reference signature. The verification automatically takes into account the natural variations in the signer's signature characteristics so that the capture and verification is effective in any situation.

Proven Solution

SOFTPRO‟s proven signature verification technology has been successfully used for over a decade in the world‟s largest financial institutions.

Broad Hardware Support

SignDoc supports a multitude of input devices for capturing and verifying signatures. Besides the popular SignPad eSignio these include writing tablets, and tablet PCs from several leading manufacturers so that you may choose the device that is right for your business needs. Our sales team can consult you on which devices are most appropriate for your application.

Support for Popular Formats

SignDoc products are available for signing the most common electronic document formats used in businesses today.

SignDoc supports out of the box signing and sealing of Portable Document Format (PDF)documents and TIFF images . In addition form-fields in PDF-documents can be filled-in using the SignDoc rich client or in the web browser running applications based on SignDoc Webtechnology. SignDoc Web can be disseminated with web-like convenience, minimizes client side footprint and can be easily integrated with document management systems.

A plug-in-version of SignDoc is also available for Adobe Reader®. In this context the PDF-documents have to be enabled for signing by means of Adobe® LiveCycle® or Adobe® Acrobat®.

In addition a add-on for Microsoft®

Word enables signing of Word documents (DOC format).

All SignDoc products equally support the signing and sealing of their respective document formats using a trustworthy and legally binding handwritten electronic signature.

Seamless Integration

SignDoc can be deployed as a standalone application, integrated into existing processes, or seamlessly combined with other SOFTPRO products to cover the complete electronic document lifecycle. The capturing of signatures for use within other applications at a later point in time allows your business to re-use captured signatures for later electronic or paper-based verification processes.

A typical example is the usage of SignDoc Web in conjunction with a document management system (DMS) for processing documents to be archived, while simultaneously capturing the signatures for later use.

Legally Binding

Legal experts have confirmed that electronic documents signed with SignDoc® offer at least the same level of security as signed paper documents.

Driven by expense reductions and other benefits related to replacing paper-based processes by electronic ones, governments all over the world have been passing legislation to pave the way for the acceptance of dynamic signatures as a legally binding form of authorization and authentication.

SOFTPRO‟s technology facilitates the use of trustworthy digitized handwritten signatures and secures non-repudiation of electronic processes to ensure that your documents are legally binding. SignDoc facilitates the compliance of processes conforming to regulations and laws on electronic signatures such as the United States “E-SIGN ACT” (Electronic Signature in Global and National Commerce Act) of 2000 or the European Parliament and Council Directive 1999/93/EG of 13 December 1999, regarding a common framework for electronic signatures of 2001

.

Award-winning

The business value of SignDoc has been acknowledged by industry experts.

The SignDoc workflow scenario can be applied to several typical contract processes. These processes usually require the filling of a form with contract-specific information, followed by the sealing of the transaction with a signature.

With SignDoc, this familiar process remains the same from the signer‟s perspective except that it takes place fully electronically.

The electronic forms are completed and signed.

Once signed, the documents are passed back to the back office and archived in electronic form. This may be automated using SignDoc Web.

Go Green with Your Workflow

The captured signatures may be extracted for future use in subsequent processes (e.g. check processing, online portal authentication, self service/ATM verification or credit card transactions) and safely stored in a reference data base.

Paper is completely eliminated.

The automatic archiving of signed documents eliminates scanning and archiving costs inherent to paper-based processes. Accounts can be created quickly and easily. Contracts can be negotiated, reviewed and signed in one continuous process.

The cost savings derive from the avoidance of form creation, form printing, form handling, form storage and form archiving. According to ROI-calculations in the banking sector, the savings per document can amount to 2 Euro per document.

First Choice for Trustworthy

Digitizing of Handwritten Signatures

The first „SignPad“ is named

“eSignio” .

Note that Wacom is using the technical

term STU-500 for this tablet as well.

More and more companies want to process signatures without

paper – which is easy to understand as paperless processes

allow savings on cost and time. Interest in devices for signature

capturing is rising enormously. Almost every bank has

discussed – at least internally – if there is an option to digitize

customer signatures at the teller in their branches.

The market today is offering a broad array of very different

devices for signature capturing. They are a familiar sight in a lot

of verticals – from rental car companies, logistic providers or

when signing an insurance contract. However users do not

seem to be very happy with their choices - as quite frequently

the display of the signature itself on the display is poor and

would not even allow a visual verification compared to a

signature on paper. Several studies document additional weak

spots of some of the currently available digitizing methods and

outline deficits in the quality of hardware or software.

Enough reasons for two worldwide leading companies in the

corresponding fields of high resolution pen input technology –

Wacom - and for software to capture, administrate and

automatic verification of signatures – SOFTPRO – to closely link

up and create a “SignPad“ together.

SOFTPRO introduced the first of a series of new generation

signature tablets to the market world wide in December 2007.

The feedback from SOFTPRO‟s customers and prospects was

and is overwhelming, the SignPad eSignio is commented as a

“quantum leap”. We invite you to share the excitement and

elucidate on the follow pages some of the aspects

characterizing a “SignPad“.

Following the success of the SignPad eSignio the next device in

the SignPad series – the SignPad compact – was launched in

late 2009.

The first color SignPad is introduced series – the SignPad Color

– is available from in autumn 2010.

Basis: Robust and proven technology

SignPads unite premium technologies in hardware and software in a tight-knit way. In contradiction to other offers on the market where “some software” is offered on top of the hardware, you will benefit of a future-proof interaction of capturing device and software of signature processing – both from the leading experts in their fields and both on the market since 1983. 25 million signatures are verified every day automatically with SOFTPRO‟s software. Wacom is bringing in the experience of millions of sold pen tablets and uses acknowledged methods for quality assurance in production.

The outstanding quality of SignPads is easy to experience. Just choose some signature captured with a SignPad for an automatic verification – e.g. using SOFTPRO‟s SDK SignWare:

This allows to capture and compare very accurate signal profiles of time and location coordinates. This kind of technology has already been part of Wacom‟s graphic tablets such as the Graphire4 or Intuos3 in the past. The latter are increasingly used for instance in registration offices in Germany and Sweden.

It is a little known fact that Wacom has sold more than 100,000 pen tablets world wide which are used for signature capturing – much more than many competitors. Most Tablet PCs use Wacom‟s „Penabled“-Technology as well to achieve top quality for handwriting recognition.

•SOFTPRO‟s unique combo-verification compares the static image characteristic as well as the dynamic (biometric) signals, which are produced throughout the signing process.

•Wacom‟s patented inductive pen technology protocols the pen position and the intensity of the writing pressure very accurately.

•It‟s a unique hands on experience: Right from the first contact you will realize that the surface allows a natural way of signing – like on paper. Thus one is signing just as usual. The „digital ink“ is displayed without any delay throughout the signing process – faster, more accurate, rich in contrast and sharper than on any other device on the market – and visible what ever the surrounding lightning conditions maybe.

•The tablet is 10 cm width, equipped with an end-to-end sensor offering enough space to cater for long names (such as compound names)

•The ball of the thumb can rest on the tablet surface throughout the signing process as the electromagnetic digitizer will not sent any signals from the thumb ball to the sensor.

•The writing surface is non reflective and highly resistant to scratches.

•The pen may be stored flexible: laying or standing, variable storage for left and right hand writing. A light, flexible cord to fix the pen to the pad is part of the SignPad package.

Optimized for Signing

A SignPad is particularly designed to support the trustworthy capturing of the handwritten signatures without paper. The ergonomics of the device are consequently optimized for easy and self-explaining signing. As a result a user will “just sign” – no questions asked.

Esthetic and functional

Form follows function – something implicit for Wacom – as the graphic business is one of their home markets for decades. Compared to other devices on the market the SignPad attracts with an extraordinary flat design, which perfectly fits into different application environments and furnishing concepts. Individual device colors – matching a corporate design - and/or integrating logos of a company or product are an option for larger orders.

2

Building Trust in e-Signing Processes

If a signer trust a capturing device is already decided before he starts to sign. Thus the SignPad is equipped with a 5“ display and full VGA resolution. Related texts to a document or transaction which needs to be signed– such as terms and conditions – are displayed crystal-clear. In other words: “What you see is what you sign”

Security to rely on

SignPads distinguishes themselves with stringent security features: The communication (data transmission) from the capturing device to the operating system is secured with strong encryption and key negotiation. Every key is negotiated between the tablet and the computer at the beginning of a particular communication and valid for a limited time frame only.

Easy to integrate

Serial or HID-USB: Using SOFTPRO‟s software (e.g. SignDoc or SignWare) in combination with the SignPad works without installation of a driver. It‟s Plug & Play – also via Terminal Server, no matter if serial or USB.

Signing with Non-repudiation

Forensic experts put a special emphasis on a reliable protocol of signals of different intensity of writing pressure captured throughout the signing process as it is the analogy to information captured on the “data medium paper“ where the pressure levels may be analyzed by using a microscope. It is exactly this biometric feature which is almost impossible to forge. These experts are also questioning tolerances which occur in the production process of the tablets or may result out of limitations of a particular technology.

A weak spot of some of the devices that are available on the market today is the accurate logging of similar pressure intensities at various areas of the capturing surface. This topic was also extensively covered in 2007 by the 7th congress of the Society for the Forensic Examination of Handwriting (Gesellschaft für Forensische Schriftuntersuchung, GFS). SignPads offer the most differentiating capture of signature data – compared to all other currently available writing tablet. They offer an outstanding trustworthy, calibrated, evenly distributed capturing of differentiable pressure levels without Interpolation.

Robust & Durable

Wacom is very well known for robust and long-life hardware. Customers buying in their devices know that they made a sustainable investment. Wacom‟s tablets have gained the reputation to survive several PC-generations. SignPads will do so as well. The high quality LCD components do not require any additional lighting – use less power and have a longer life expectancy when compared to competitor‟s devices. Unlike to many other devices the sensor in the tablet is behind the display and does not interact directly with the pen so there is no wear and tear. In other words: Whether at the POS or at the teller: You can count on durability.

Operational risk - the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or

failed internal processes, people, systems or external events - has

become prevalent in today‟s business environment. Operational

risk encompasses the failure to implement strategic objectives

and initiatives in a successful, timely and cost-effective manner.

Subcategories of that risk include Process Risk, People Risk,

Systems Risk and External Events Risk. All financial institutions

today are subject to the serious effects of operational risk. Without

adequate systems and the right mitigation strategy losses are

unavoidable.

The total amount of attempted check fraud against banks' deposit

accounts reached an estimated $11.4 billion in 2008. Check

fraud losses incurred in 80 per cent of the banks. 761,000 cases

of check fraud were reported in 2008. Although the use of checks

is decreasing slightly, America‟s affinity to checks is diminishing

very, very slowly: 26,2 million checks were written in 2008 alone.

The Check 21 Act in the USA opens the door to both efficient

image processing, and at the same time eliminates traditional

security features such as touch, smell, and feel of paper. Such

image-based check transactions pose a threat with serious loss

consequences.

Check fraud crime is easy to commit with little downside risk to the

perpetrator. Enhanced financial products, services and customer

access as well as enabling technologies such as scanners, all

increase the avenues of opportunity for fraud.

How can these losses be avoided? Is searching for fraud amongst

the billions of transactions like searching for a needle in a

haystack? No! Fortunately, there is one holistic and sustainable

way to address all relevant aspects of check fraud and effectively

lower the operational risk. That solution is FraudOne, successfully

Check a Focus on Day 1

Developing the Counter Strategy

Are your risks primarily on Day 1, or Day 2 of the check processing cycle? Today, operational risk mitigation typically occurs on day 2 at a centralized location. As a result, day 1 activities such as check cashing, deposit acceptance with less cash, movement of funds, new account openings and record changes expose you to additional risk as fraud operators move their activities to day 1 to avoid detection.

As banks move to distributed capture and an image-enabled environment, fraud filters can be placed at the point of origin. Our consultants can review your day 2 detection capabilities and develop a strategy to move either the entire functionality, or portions of it, to day 1 based on your individual needs.

World Class Consulting

Sharing Best Practice

Financial institutions around the globe have trusted SOFTPRO to help them mitigate risk. The experience and lessons learned put SOFTPRO in a unique position to share industry best practices with you. We can provide you with assistance to review the progress-to-date on loss reduction goals, tweaking your FraudOne system, improving false positive ratios, and reviewing database quality.

The Holistic Approach

Because Silos simply don‟t work

Systems that target a single type of fraud are unable to effectively identify fraudulent items and additionally produce a high number of non-fraud suspects that cost time and money to process. SOFTPRO‟s products target all prevalent types of check fraud such as forged signatures, forged endorsements, and counterfeits to name a few. The products take into account many factors such as image data and transactional information and with the help of SOFTPRO‟s consulting expertise, these products can be tuned to achieve outstanding results.

In addition to analyzing your individual risk profile, our consultants are available to assist you with business case development, proof of concept, and loss analysis and stratification.

The Right Tools

Combined Risk Scoring

FraudOne® incorporates a scoring component called Combined Risk Score (CRS) that is highly effective in distinguishing between real suspect items, and good items. Our consultants can help you to best utilize this unique technology by showing you how to adjust it to exactly match your individual risk profile and maximize your CRS results.

Detecting the Hidden Loopholes

Assessing The Operation Risks

In addition to optimizing your check verification processes, SOFTPRO also offers consulting services to help you mitigate existing and emerging operational risks such as those created by organizational changes (e.g. mergers/consolidations leading to disparate tools and filters, general organizational issues, etc.).

An unclear risk mitigation strategy exposes your institution to losses. Let us help you to define a holistic approach to operational risk which includes all relevant departments and banking centers.

Our consultants are available to review your current fraud prevention environment, and make recommendations to optimize your institution‟s loss avoidance. We can review your current organizational structure to ensure effective enterprise-wide risk management.

If you need assistance in a court dispute concerning risk in your organization, our experts can provide expert witness testimony to enhance your chances in winning your case.

Contact SOFTPRO and let us show you how to avoid losses.

The risk of your financial institution becoming the victim of fraud

crimes is growing every day. Due to legislative changes, and the

increasing sophistication of criminals, the banking industry has

become an easy target for check fraud crimes.

SOFTPRO is proud to introduce the first effective next-generation

fraud detection solution: FraudOne®.

Unlike other solutions that loosely integrate independent silo

detection systems, FraudOne is based on a holistic, flexible, cost-

effective, and proven approach. The platform-based system

architecture combines several complementary image processing

technologies to effectively identify suspicious payment items, and

ensure that you do not waste time looking at inaccurately flagged

suspects (false positives). To achieve this, FraudOne incorporates

a unique risk-scoring technique that significantly reduces false

positives so that you can concentrate on only the real suspects.

Front and Back Office Solution Aspects

FraudOne provides components for Day 2 back-office batch processing of payment items as well as Day 1 instant verification solutions that enable your tellers to instantly verify payment items at the front office.

Proven Solution

In co-operation with six of the U.S. banking industry‟s leading institutions, SOFTPRO defined check fraud prevention best-practice requirements in 2001 as part of the FraudOne initiative.

These activities have resulted in SOFTPRO‟s implementation of the first truly effective image-based fraud prevention solution based on SOFTPRO products and services: FraudOne.

Secure and Low-risk investment

Unlike other fraud detection systems, FraudOne fits into your institution‟s current infrastructure and not vice versa so that it can be implemented with minimal changes to your existing back-office infrastructure.

The FraudOne platform can quickly and easily be adapted with new detection functionality and fraud profiles as industry fraud patterns change. With FraudOne, we are committed to providing you with a secure and future-proof investment that will continue to provide value as industry demands change.

“When we first started looking into an image-based fraud detection solution, we were skeptical that we could find a product on the market that would satisfy our business requirements, be cost-effective, and be able to perform in a highly complex check processing environment such as Bank of America‟s.

We did an extensive search of all vendors on the market. SOFTPRO convinced us that they would be the right partner for us based on the quality of their product, their ability to correctly identify fraud, and their professionalism as a company.

Their products exceeded our expectations by enabling us to reduce our false positives by 50%, as well reduce our losses due to counterfeit and forged maker signature checks by 60%!

We are convinced that we made the right choice by selecting SOFTPRO."

The new release 4.0 of FraudOne®

offers a wide array of highly valuable enhancements which underline that FraudOne is arguably the most advanced suite for check fraud detection and prevention worldwide.

Release 4.0 provides more fraud detection functionality, support for integration of account opening applications and solutions for Instant verification and remote capture applications.

Enhancements

Modular enhancement options protect your investment:

Upgrading to SignBase enables you to manage signature snippets. Semi-automatic cleaning removes image elements that are not part of the signature (e.g. lines and boxes, rubber stamps, background graphics etc.). Optionally, a form-independent cleaning of grey-scale snippets is available.

Signing rules are stored in free text form. Optimizing your workflow requires that these rules are managed in a normalized way. Upgrading to SignBase® allows to store and display the rules unambiguously and clearly.

Support of “four-eyes“-principle.

Improved Security

Data and Image Capturing

Every single data update is recorded in a protocol and can be audited at any time..

Customer authentication data easily retrievable across branches.

Easy capturing, safe management and flexible updates (e.g. verification thresholds).

In addition to signature cards, further document images can be stored, e. g. photos, ID card copies and other identity information – your choice of b/w monochrome or grayscale images (optional).

Easy to maintain

Use SignCheck for a full automation of your signature verification process (configurable workflow, automatic signature and signing rules verification).

SignDoc allows you to add signing of electronic documents to your workflow.

Page 22: Paperless Signing & Comprehensive Check Fraud Prevention

SignBase® - the basic module of SignPlus® - is the ideal starting-

point for automatic signature verification. SignBase® displays

signatures and signing rules at every workstation within seconds

while offering convenient administration. Forget old signature

cards or inflexible data bases. The use of signature verification as

an automatic process in the background removes the burden from

branch offices. SignBase® workflow increases efficiency and

reduces risk of fraud.

All Answers at a Glimpse

SignBase® offers an unparalleled overview – independent of pre-

formatted forms. Concern of authorized signers with certain

signing rights is eliminated. The signing rules of authorized signers

are displayed clearly even if rules are very complex.

Reference Data easily updated

Some reference signatures may have been initially captured many

years ago or captured in poor quality. Consequently, there is a

need to update reference databases. SignBase® has the ability to

add so-called ”variants” to reference signatures. The use of

”variants” enables SignBase® to account for the natural variation

within an individual‟s signature. Furthermore, users benefit from

current technology including high-resolution scanning and high-

capacity storage. Capturing variants requires minimal effort, data

may be taken from regular checks or giro forms.

Clean Signature Images

Scanned signatures may include disruptive background

information With the use of an optional automated cleaning

module, printed lines, boxes, stamps or images in the background

are removed. This ensures the storage of a clean signature image

and improves the accuracy of the verification process. This

sophisticated algorithm has been successfully proven world wide.

Another option is to clean grey images - independent of pre-

defined forms.

combination with SignTeller Verification

SOFTPRO has compiled a list of quality criteria for digitizing

signatures throughout the signing process, based on its

experience with more than 200 customers in financial

institutions worldwide.

SignPlus® also supports the capturing of static images via

TWAIN-compatible SCSI-scanners.

The availability of writing tablets (e.g. in the teller

environment) or TabletPCs (in mobile scenarios) enables

paper-less signature verification. In addition, these devices

greatly improve the verification accuracy by capturing

biometric characteristics such as writing pressure, speed

and acceleration.

SignBase® is used in hundreds of financial institutes

worldwide including Barclays, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank,

Discover Financial, Lloyds TSB, SEB and UniCredit

HypoVereinsbank plus regional or national institutes. The

solution contains the experiences of the SOFTPRO team

and its partners from various project requirements of

more than one and a half decades.

Page 24: Paperless Signing & Comprehensive Check Fraud Prevention

SignCheck® closes the last gap in the automation of payment

processing with automatic signature and check stock verification

that offers unparalleled levels of reliability. Unlike visual

verification, automatic signature and check stock verification is

reliable, accurate and scalable.

Increased Security and Streamlined Workflow

SignCheck® incorporates analytical knowledge from a team of

highly-sophisticated forensic writing experts. Their experience was

reflected in the training of the neural network and the fuzzy logic in

SignCheck®. Fraud Specialists are able to focus on questionable

items only, eliminating traditional “needle in a hay stack” analysis.

Verification thresholds can be lowered to high fraud areas to

optimize fraud detection. Check value may be used to set

thresholds for verification. These settings may be adjusted daily,

depending on changing security requirements.

Reliable, Fast and Audit-proof

Results of all workflow processes are stored in a result file and

may be directly used by other systems processing (storage in

payment image archives, merging with debiting checks).

SOFTPRO‟s customers process most of their transaction items

automatically, thanks to ongoing optimization of reference data,

forms and the workflow itself.

SignCheck® is scalable to process almost any number of

transactions within a given operating window. Scalability is

achieved through the addition of hardware and no code changes

are required. Since the parameters of workflow and verification

procedures can be configured and customized, and because

SignCheck® supports multiple banks, it is the perfect fit for both

insourcing and outsourcing scenarios. This gives you the flexibility

to adapt quickly to eventual business changes.

SignCheck® provides audit security to meet Basel II requirements:

Verification results are completely documented and may be

reproduced at any time.

24

Some examples for the static characteristics of a signature image

SignCheck® extracts and weighs 60 different primary and 500 secondary static signature characteristics and combines them in parameter vectors.

After calculation, a neural network is used to define the level of similarity between a signature and a reference. The natural variation of a signature is taken into account throughout the comparison.

Best In Class

SignCheck® has proven its technological leadership in independent vendor tests with impressive results.

Recently, SignCheck®

successfully passed a qualification test held by key financial institutions in the United States and was ranked best in its class.

automatic verification is based on a neural network and

fuzzy logic.

The first automatic verification went into production in

1994. Intellectual property rights for the automatic

verification were acquired from IBM in 1998. In recent years

SOFTPRO extended its product range through FraudOne and

the use and verification of dynamic (biometric)

characteristics of signatures.
