The Need for Paper Recycling

* The increase in per capita consumption averaged 1.8% per year from 1960 to 1980, 1.6% per year from 1980 to 1993, and has been projected at 0.6% per year during 1990 to 2040.

* Pulp, paper, and paperboard mills account for 95% of energy use in the

U.S. paper and allied products industry and about 12% of total manufacturing

energy use in the U.S.

Science of Paper Recycling

• 50% of paper in U.S. has been already recycled.

• One bundle of paper as huge as a person can save 15 trees.

Collect papers.

Sort them out and make them into bundles.

These bundles get dissolved into new papers.

times• Reduces air pollution• Saves up landfill than

any other materials• Newspaper and

cardboard are everywhere.

• Disadvantages• Lower quality than

original and new paper• Expensive to remove

ink from old papers• Changing value of

recycle paper contributes to its shaky economic value.
