Of course, I’ll win because I’m covered with baked walnuts, cinnamon and sugar. You can also take part because you smell sweet – the cookie told the pancake. The pancake rejoiced at the news and both the pancake and the cookie headed for the competition.

THE KING WITH A HORN But the king was near by and heard

everything. When he returned, he

ordered to call the barber. The fright-

ened barber came to the king. The

king told him that he had heard

him in the wood and that he was

grateful that the barber had kept his

secret. He had done his best and no-

body understood the secret.

So, the king ordered a generous

award for the barber.

The Seventh Father of the House

And thus, whole six times but at the seventh time he

found him. He was in the stable yard with his beloved

horse and having seen the traveller, he asked him:

What are you doing here, man?

I am seeking shelter for the night. Will you give me shel-

ter?

Of course, but I’ll ask you for a favour. I want you go to

the wood tomorrow morning and pick up a flower. It is

yellow as gold but be careful because a gryphon guards

it. Well, do you agree?

Yes, I agree, - answered the traveller.

In the morning he was off to the wood. He walked, and

walked and finally reached a glade. And suddenly he

saw the golden flower. The man headed to it but he re-

membered the landlord’s words. Nevertheless he kept on

walking silently and calmly. Suddenly the gryphon

turned up. He asked the man what he was doing there.

I’m here because of the golden flower.

You can’t pick it up. It’s the heart of the wood. – said the

gryphon.

The traveller thought of it and returned to the landlord.

He told him:

I couldn’t fulfill my promise. I couldn’t bring myself to

pick up the flower.

You did right. I’ll reward you with five purses of gold

coins for your kind heart.

Thus the traveller saved the wood.
