Terminology

Rho Gamma: recruitment guide; a sorority woman who has temporarily disassociated from her

sorority to serve as a recruitment guide; each woman participating in Panhellenic Formal Recruitment

will be assigned a Rho Gamma to help her through primary recruitment

Pi Chi/Pi Delta: a sorority woman who is on the leadership team of the Panhellenic Council, the

governing body of the seven Panhellenic sororities at FIU, and has temporarily disassociated from her

organization to help plan and manage Panhellenic Formal Recruitment

Potential new member (PNM): a woman who is eligible to participate in Panhellenic Formal

Recruitment

New member: a woman who has accepted a bid to membership from a sorority but is not yet an

initiated member of that organization

Values-based recruitment: a recruitment style that focuses on meaningful conversations between

sorority women and potential new members, with the goal of recruiting women who will have a

positive impact on chapters and the Panhellenic community

Bid Day: the last day of Panhellenic Formal Recruitment, when a potential new members may receive

a bid to emembership from one Panhellenic sorority and become a new member

Initiation: a traditional ceremony that brings a new member into full membership of a sorority

Legacy: a daughter, sister or granddaughter of an initiated member of a sorority (Note: Legacy status

does not guaruntee a bid from a sorority, and each national organization may have their own legacy

critera and policies.)

What to Expect

Rho Gammas, or recruitment guides, will help guide through Panhellenic

Formal Recruitment, including helping you navigate campus

Long days on your feet (so, please wear comfortable shoes!)

Singing/chanting as you enter/exit sorority rooms

Conversations with one or more member of the organizations you visit

Choosing your top preferences at the end of each night via a computer

system

You may ask any questions about the organization or sorority life to

sorority women

Conversation is a two way street - talk about ANYTHING (i.e food,

travel, hobbies, etc.) and get to know the women personally

You will make friends with chapter women, your Rho Gamma,

and others in your group, no matter what organization

you may end up in!

Attire

Values-based Recruitment is all about joining a sorority based

on where you feel at home! The following attire is NOT

mandatory - wear what makes you shine and comfortable!

Sorority 101 (Monday)

Casual: Jeans,

pants, blouse,

shirts, sun dress,

flats, sandals,

skirt, shorts

Philanthropy Day

Sisterhood & Traditions

General Advice

BE YOURSELF!

Be the best version of yourself

Be comfortable

Wear clothes and shoes that

you feel comfortable being in

all day and walking/standing

for long periods of time in.
