Panasonic KX-NCP1000 R14 SIP Trunk Setup Guide
ABSTRACT
The Panasonic KX-NCP1000 is a Network Communication Platform (NCP) that provides
unified communication solutions for small to medium businesses. The KX-NCP1000
combines digital (IP) and analog telephony. It is a hybrid system, a mix of key system and
PBX, to include computer telephony integration (by way of software components).

INTRODUCTION
This document does not cover the installation of the KX-NCP1000 itself and assumes
knowledge of the system build and administration, to include access to the default KX-NCP
Maintenance console by way of client software provided by Panasonic.
This document covers MegaPath R14 SIP trunk configurations in conjunction with a third-
party firewall.
The R14 Identity/Device profile required for successful KX-NCP1000 interoperability is the
“Generic SIP Trunk Single Registration” Identity/Device profile.
IMPORTANT: Testing with the Edgemarc 4500-series SIP ALG HAS NOT been conducted at
this time. A known-good standard Edgemarc 4500-series SIP ALG configuration is provided
that works with the Generic SIP Trunk Single Registration Broadsoft R14 Identity/Device
profile.
1. STANDARD FIREWALL
This configuration features a KX-NCP1000 deployed behind a standard, third-party firewall.
The firewall is configured the forward SIP and the Asterisk RTP range from the firewall WAN
IP address to the internal IP address of the KX-NCP1000 NATd behind the firewall.
Figure 1.1 KX-NCP1000 NATd behind a standard, third-party firewall.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
The third-party firewall SHOULD support static NAT for all outbound and inbound
UDP traffic to mitigate one-way audio.
If one-way audio is still an issue with a firewall known to support static NAT, then
ensure that all SIP helper or SIP proxy services are disabled in the firewall.
Port forwarding of SIP and RTP ranges should be in place between the firewall and
the KX-NCP1000. The UDP port for SIP is 5060 and the RTP UDP port range starts at
16000.
Ensure you are clear as to which slot and port number to use when configuring the KX-
NCP1000 Virtual SIP Gateway.

2. EDGEMARC APPLICATION-LAYER GATEWAY
This configuration features a KX-NCP1000 deployed behind an Edgemarc SIP application-
layer gateway (SIP ALG). The SIP ALG is configured to forward SIP and the RTP range from
the SIP ALG WAN IP address to the internal IP address of the KX-NCP1000 NATd behind the
SIP ALG.

IMPORTANT: Testing with the Edgemarc 4500-series SIP ALG HAS NOT been conducted at
this time. A known-good standard Edgemarc 4500-series SIP ALG configuration is provided
that works with the Generic SIP Trunk Single Registration Broadsoft R14 Identity/Device
profile.
NOTE: In this example, the LAN-side IP address of the Edgemarc SIP application-layer
gateway is 172.16.248.1 and the IP address of the Panasonic KX-NCP1000 is
172.16.248.165.
