TAG 32 is a new generation range in ductile iron, designed to fit to the sewerage gravity requirements. This new range benefits of the new coatings in accordance withe the natural environment.

PAM ductile cast iron - HISTORY

The resistance and durability of grey cast iron - a material used before the arrival of ductile cast iron - have been widely accepted.

In 1664, King Louis XIV ordered the construction of a network of pipes made from grey cast iron, designed to carry water from the pumping station of Marly-sur-Seine to the fountains and town of Versailles. These pipes remained in use for over 330 years.Microscopic analysis of grey cast iron has shown that the carbon crystallises as long, narrow graphite flakes.

They favour the concentration of stresses, potential sources of incipient cracks when the material is subject to tractive forces.

1943 witnessed a major discovery: if a small amount of magnesium is added to the grey cast iron, the carbon no longer crystallises as flakes but as graphite spheres.

A new material is born: ductile cast iron Spheroidal graphite gives the cast iron exceptional mechanical properties.

In addition to excellent yield strength, it offers excellent tensile strength and impact strength.

These qualities are an essential feature of potable water and sewerage networks.

A bar of twisted ductile cast iron displaying outstanding properties was imported from the United States in 1949 by Jean Cavallier, a member of the family which founded the Pont-à-Mousson company.

The ductilisation of cast iron reached the industrial stage in 1960.

For over 40 years, SAINT-GOBAIN CANALISATION ductile cast iron pipelines have enjoyed a world-wide reputation for their strength, durability and reliability.

PAM ductile cast iron – Mechanical Properties

Ductile cast iron is an iron/carbon/silicon alloy containing pure carbon, as spheroidal graphite.

In ductile cast iron, the graphite particles consist of spheres, which prevent the risks of crack propagation. The material is ductile and strong. In grey cast iron, the carbon forms graphite flakes. Main properties of ductile cast iron:

Ductile cast iron retains the traditional qualities of cast iron due to the high carbon content:

Compressive strength, Mouldability, Resistance to abrasion, Machinability, Fatigue strength

These characteristics are optimised at SAINT-GOBAIN CANALISATION through control of the processes involved, chemical analysis of the cast iron and heat treatment.

PAM ductile cast iron products can withstand all types of incident occurring during transport, handling, installation and operation: water hammer, frost, large depths of cover, heavy traffic, unstable ground, earthquakes, etc.

SAINT-GOBAIN CANALISATION water pipeline pipes, fittings and accessories are manufactured from ductile cast iron, in compliance with standard NF EN 545:

By agreement between the manufacturer and the customer, the 0.2 % proof stress (Rp 0.2) can be measured. It must not be less than:

270 MPa when A ( 12 % for DN 40 to 1000, or ( 10 % for DN >1000

300 MPa in the other cases

The Brinell hardness must not exceed 230 HB for the pipes and 250 HB for the fittings and accessories. For welded components, a higher Brinell hardness is permitted in the area heated up during welding.

Double air valves

The double air valves protect the wastewater networks by evacuating the air trapped in the pipelines.

The air valve body is made from welded steel with epoxy coating (250 µm), the moving part is completely plastic, guaranteeing excellent corrosion resistance.

Their use leads to savings during installation: the pipeline can follow the relief of the terrain, thereby avoiding the extra costs involved when laying at greater depths (trench shoring, ground water lowering, etc.) required to follow a regular pipeline profile.

Thanks to the performance of the PAM products and their safety margin, the EURO 20 valves, DN 40 to DN 300, types 21, 23, 24 and 25, have obtained FM approval.

These gates valves, which only close clockwise, require:

special assembly special tests special marking

according to FM specification class 1120-1130.

The FM approved EURO 20 gate vales can be equipped with:
