BEAUTIFUL STORYA little boy went to a telephone booth which was at the cash counter of a store and dialled a number.The store-owner observed and listened to the conversation:Boy: "Lady, Can you give me the job of mowing your lawn?Woman: (at the other end of the phone line) "I already have someone to mow my lawn."Boy: "Lady, I will cut your lawn for half the price than the person who cuts your lawn now."

AIMS OF THE WORKSHOP

To identify the FIVE KEY policies that are fundamental for the effective management of schoolsThese are NNSSF, PAM, WSE, IQMS, CAPS To look at the PAM as a policy administering personnel in schools, with particular reference to the Roles and Responsibilities & Leave MeasuresTo interrogate a scenario related to PAM as a policy prescriptTo address pertinent issues related to Basic Conditions of Service of Educators (HR Personnel)Clarify all issues related to these two Chapters of the PAM

(Refer to PAM Document) ADMIN CLERK:•Attend all meetings, like staff, school management team, school governing body, etc. too take minutes that will be typed up the next day, given to the Principal to read, ok, stamp and sign.•All meetings minutes to be typed, dated and filed•All school information to be typed up and filed•Circulars to be taken to all educators and signed•Circulars to be displayed in the office and in the staffroom•All circulars to be filed•Admin clerk to only type for the principal and deputy principal•Prepare all documents that the principal needs for circuit office meetings•File all the principal and deputy principals workshop and meetings documents•Admin clerk to develop filing system with the principal•File all documents of the past 5 years only and all schedules

• Admin clerk to assist all educators to develop basic computer skills• Setup the computers for all the SMT members• Setup a computer area for the educators in the staffroom (central

area) when a computer becomes available• Do a daily check of tasks with the principal• Respect working hours from 0h800 – 16h00• Monitor the activities of the general worker and keep a logbook of

his/her weekly activities• Complete a quarterly performance management • Make sure that the general workers have cleaning materials

GENERAL WORKER:•  Sweep and dust the admin area each day• Sweep the classrooms each day• Clean the toilets each day• Attend to all general maintenance of the school buildings

• Attend to the general maintenance of the school grounds• Make sure that no strangers wonder onto and around the school

premises• Liaise with the local police forum with regards to all safety and security

issues• Liaise with the night watchman to secure the school after evening,

Saturday and holiday classes• Make sure that all resources are packed orderly in the agreed storage

areas• Assist the educators when textbooks are returned at the end of the year

to the respective storage areas• Make sure that the admin area, classrooms and resource areas are

securely locked after school each day • Make sure chairs are available for all parent meetings• Respect the working hours of 0h800 – 16h00 each day• Sign the logbook of activities at the end of each week with the Admin

HEADS OF DEPARTMENTTakes full responsibility for their allocated number of educators to efficiently plan, prepare and implement the curriculum and their professional development•Administration of all educator and learner portfolio’s•Regularly Monitor and Moderate educator and learner portfolio’s•Administration of all curriculum resources and assessment records•Assists with decision making + accountability issues•Quarterly Internal Moderation of all Curriculum Planning (Educator Portfolio’s) and Implementing (Classroom Visits and Learner Portfolio’s) •Use the Education Departments Official Moderation Tool•Complete Internal Moderation Tool before any educator goes for cluster or official moderation •Monitor all Assessment Requirements per term•Monitor all Assessment Tasks required per term and Recording Schedules•Monitor Classroom Activities with regular supportive classroom visits

Clerk HOD’S MUST MAKE SURE THAT All REQUIRED documentation from

the education department must be included in the educator portfolios, especially the Foundations for Learning, Pace Setters, Common Tests, National Tests, Provincial Tests and all samples of the Systemic Tests will apply to all the primary schools.

SUBJECT HEADS•EACH SUBJECT MUST HAVE A SUBJECT HEAD •HOD’S can but do not have to be Subject Heads•Subject Heads must have a practical working knowledge of their respective Subject•Their Educator Portfolio and Classroom Practices must be of a high standard and set the example to the group of educators they will lead, manage, monitor, mentor and support•Make sure that all educators have the necessary NCS Documents•Make sure all educators do quarterly planning, preparation and implementation of the curriculum according to policy requirements•Moderate educator portfolio’s with education department’s moderation tool•Make sure all educators implement a variety of teaching, learning and assessment strategies in their classrooms•Make sure all educators regularly record all required assessment tasks •Schedule regular meetings and elect a secretary to take minutes•Give Regular productive and supportive feedback to all educators

• The Principal will continue to regularly update, lead and manage all organisational and administrative structures and activities in consultation with the SMT and with the assistance of the Admin Clerk

• Principal will regularly liaise with the education officials to effectively support the school• Principal will be responsible to regularly report to all officials regarding all the school activities• Principal to give regular open, honest and constructive Feedback to the SMT and/or entire staff.• Deputy principal and Heads of Department’s will continue to monitor all professional activities

of the rest of the staff and report back to the principal• SMT to continue to congratulate, encourage, support and monitor all curriculum planning and

implementation• SMT to continue internal moderation of all Educator Master Portfolio’s and Learner Portfolio’s• Each SMT member will have a list of the educators they will be responsible to support and

monitor• Each SMT will make a list of the issues they believe each of their educators need that they are

responsible for supporting and monitoring• SMT to communicate and behave as a cohesive professional team• SMT to meet regularly to discuss issues before meeting and communicating with the rest of the

staff• SMT to continue to work towards developing and establishing sustainable best practices at their

respective schools
