Math in Science group starts in September.
Book Club and Writing Club
Book Club and Writing Club will be closing for
summer on June 26 and 27.
We will start up again in September on the 11and 12.
In September we will read an Anna Sweet mystery.

Computer Literacy
Computer Literacy opportunities over the summer are being
developed. Talk to Adam, if you are interested.
Regular Computer Literacy Classes – Basics and Skills for Work
and Daily Living will start in September. If you are interested, call
Adam at 780-424-5514.

nominated shows the commitment of the students.

Student and Volunteer Recognition Celebration
The event was held at the McKay Avenue School, Archives and Museum on April 17.
The Honourable Marlin Schmidt, Minister of Advanced Education, and David Shepherd, MLA
for Edmonton Centre gave greetings at the celebration.
Jennifer Russill shared her experience as a volunteer tutor in the
Math Literacy Program at P.A.L.S.
P.A.L.S. appreciates all the work that the volunteers do. Without
the volunteers we would not have a program.

English Language skills has made for her. She is a good

Welcome Jenny the new LELL Coordinator
Jenny has been working in the ESL community for
25 years and has extensive international experience in
education development in communities at risk. Her passion is
literacy and adult education from a cultural perspective. She is
excited to be a part of P.A.L.S and looks forward to getting to
know the team of volunteers and students.

Coordinate the Math Literacy Program for adult learners and volunteers to meet the needs of
the students and achieve the outcomes of the program.
Qualifications: Related post-secondary degree, experience in working with volunteers.

After 5 years of coordinating the Math Literacy Program Monica has
decided to move on. She has made a significant contribution to the
Math Literacy Program. She has made a difference for the students
and volunteers that she has worked with. Best of luck in the future,
Monica. We will miss you.

Adam, Computer Literacy Coordinator, will be the interim Math Literacy
Coordinator.
He is a Math Literacy tutor who has made a contribution to the program.
He is looking forward to working with students and volunteers.

Welcome New Computer Literacy Tutor! Please welcome Math Literacy tutor, Sandra Der, to the computer literacy program.
Team Conference
On May 7 the Team Conference was held at NorQuest College.
Sixty-six (66) people attended the conference. Thirty-five (35) adult learners and 31 tutors
participated in the 15 workshops. There were also participants from the Centre for Family
Literacy, STAR Literacy in St. Albert, and the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers.
Two adult learners shared with staff the impact of the workshops on them. A Literacy student
realized that as a result of the Apprenticeship Workshop he could enter a trade and is now
registered to enter the welding trade in September. A lady who has knee problems is now
registered in Chair Yoga at her local YWCA.
Thank you to the students in the Reaching New Heights Program for their time and energy in
putting on the conference. Thank you – Danny, Eli, Tina, Debbie, Gilbert, Farida, Sattar, and
Alison.
