HOLY THURSDAY, APRIL 13TH PILGRIMAGE

That melodic hymn echoed on Holy Thursday, “Stay with me… Remain here with me….Watch and

pray” is Jesus’ invitation to us all to reflect on one of the most solemn nights of the Triduum. We are in the early

planning phase and want to know who is interested. Like in the past…..Come join us here at the 7:00 pm

mass for Holy Thursday services. Thereafter, embark with us as we travel to six additional

churches as the faithful of old have done. We will pilgrimage by school bus and return at

approximately 11:45 pm. Seats will be limited and a fee will be required to reserve one. If you are interested or

Good Friday, April 14th, 2017 WAY OF THE CROSS DOWNTOWN CHICAGO

Communion and Liberation and the Focolare Movement inviteeveryone to follow the Cross through the streets of Chicago. Witnessing to the sacrifice of our Lord on Good Friday,we follow the cross through the streets of our city,

where so many take up their crosses daily. The silent procession starts at 8:45am at Daley Plaza and ends at Holy Name Cathedral around 12:00am.

Three stops include songs, meditations and Gospel readings. --- All are welcome ---

School news

6 G N During this season of Lent, 6th grade students have been preparing their hearts in various ways. We have been wa-tching Lenten videos and completing activities that help us learn about our Catholic faith. Students used Chrome Bo-oks to create a word cloud that is in the shape of a cross. The cross image is filled with words that remind us about what is important during this season. As a school, we have attended weekly Stations of the Cross that our well-spoken 7th and 8th grade students lead, while the rest of the students participate with station booklets. Recently, 6th grade students have been spending time with the preschoolers, in order to share what they know about using iPads with them. This is a wonderful way for students to live their faith, by being kind and helpful towards others. One cannot help but smile when you watch how kind and patient the 6th graders are with their younger friends. Preschoolers practiced proper iPad care, naming the parts, and basic usage skills with the iPads. Students also had time to use some of the educational apps and websites. During our next visit with preschool, 6th graders will te-ach them how to play Kahoot, which is wonderful site for practicing and reviewing concepts. With all these Lenten activities, the students are certainly learning about and practicing their faith.

RUMMAGE / GARAGE SALE St. William Parish will be hosting a Rummage/Garage Sale on Friday, April 28 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday, April 29 8:00 am to 5:30 pm

Located on the Rectory grounds. Houseware items, clothing, furniture, collectibles, holiday and seasonal items, etc.

Starszy nazywał się Frank i miał 20 lat. Młodszy Ted miał 18 lat. Wiele czasu spędzali razem, ich przyjaźń sięgała czasów szkoły podstawowej. Razem postanowili zaciągnąć się do wojska. Przed wyjazdem przyrzekli sobie i rodzinom, że będą wzajemnie uważać na siebie. Szczęście im sprzyjało i znaleźli się w tym samym batalionie. Batalion ich został wysłany na wojnę. Była to straszliwa wojna pośród rozpalonych piasków pustyni. Przez pewien czas Frank i Ted przebywali w obozie chronionym przez lotnictwo. Lecz któregoś dnia pod wieczór przyszedł rozkaz, by wkroczyć na teryto-rium nieprzyjaciela. Żołnierze pod piekielnym ogniem wroga dotarli do pewnej wsi. Ale nie było Teda. Frank szukał go wszędzie. Znalazł jego nazwisko w spisie zagi-nionych. Zgłosił się u komendanta z prośbą o pozwole-nie na poszukiwanie jego przyjaciela. -To jest zbyt niebezpieczne - odpowiedział komendant-Straciłem już twego przyjaciela, straciłbym również ciebie. Tam ostro strzelają. Frank mimo wszystko poszedł. Po kilku godzinach zna-lazł Teda śmiertelnie rannego. Ostrożnie wziął go na ramiona. Nagle dosięgnął go pocisk. Nadludzkim wysił-kiem udało mu się donieść przyjaciela do obozu. -Czy warto było umierać, by ratować umarłego? -spytał komendant. -Tak-wyszeptał Frank gdyż przed śmiercią Ted powie-dział: "Wiedziałem ,że przyjdziesz. To właśnie powiemy Bogu w chwili naszej śmierci: "Wiedziałem Boże ,ze przyjdziesz".

POZNAJ NIEZWYKŁĄ ŚWIĘTĄ

WIELKI PIĄTEK Dwa razy w roku, czyli w Środę Popielcową i w Wielki Piątek oprócz wstrzemięźli-wości od pokarmów mięsnych obowiązuje ponadto post w sensie ścisłym. Polega on na tym, że w te dwa dni roku można spożyć tylko jeden posiłek do syta. Ów post obowiązuje katolików którzy ukończyli 18 rok życia, aż do rozpoczęcia 60 roku życia. Post ścisły pozwala na jednorazowy posiłek do syta oraz na dwa skromne posiłki w ciągu dnia. Wierni, którzy nie mają możliwości wyboru pokarmów i muszą spożywać to, co zostanie im podane, mogą korzystać z dyspensy od obowiązku wstrzymania się od potraw mięsnych w piątki całego roku. Taka dyspensa nie istnieje w Środę Popielcową i Wielki Piątek.
