I’m Natalie Crabtree, a quilter, pattern designer, and lover of color and all things quilt! I am based in Cincinnati, Ohio with my daughter Gwen and husband Joel who acts as my creative collaborator, color consultant and fellow fabric lover.

My interest in quilting and fabrics was sparked by a year long stay in Kyoto, Japan. Upon my return, I was inspired and eager to learn a new hobby. Despite never having touched a sewing machine before, I took a leap of faith and dove right in. Little did I know that when I sewed that first stitch, I was embarking on an incredibly creative and professional journey!

I find beauty in all quilts whether traditional, modern or artistic. One of the most endearing things about our craft is that quilters sew with fierce passion and love. I hope to spread that joy everyday with my designs and of course through cuddly quilts!

Piecing Instructions Blocks are created and pieced to produce a mosaic tiled effect throughout the quilt. Blocks are created using 10 individually colored units subcut from strip sets referred to as Strip Set 1 – 10. All fabric strips used in the strip sets will measure 2” x WOF.

Use the fabric pairing guide for Strip Sets 1-10 and subcutting instructions listed for accurate fabric placement. Number of strip sets needed for Throw and Queen size quilts are specified.

Number of subcut units needed are labeled as Throw and Queen at the end of each Strip Set instruction.

21. Create blocks using (1) 2” x 15 ½” unit from Strip Sets 1 – 10 sewn in numerical order from left to right as shown in the diagrams. The diagram shown refers to Strip Set 1 as SS1, Strip Set 2 as SS2 etc. Fabrics should create a continuous chain throughout the block. Use pins to nestle seams for a neat finish. Use the guide listed for number of blocks to create for Throw and Queen size quilts. Block should measure 15 ½” x 15 ½” unfinished.

1. Using the diagrams shown for block orientation, lay out the quilt top before sewing. Blocks are turned throughout the quilt top to create continuous chains using the same fabrics. Throw Size uses (16) blocks in a 4 x 4 grid, and the Queen Size uses (36) blocks in a 6 x 6 grid.

2. Once you have confirmed that the blocks are oriented correctly, begin sewing together the quilt top in horizontal block rows first. (4 rows for Throw, 6 rows for Queen) Alternate the direction in which you press the seams in each row.

3. Sew together the block rows to complete the quilt top.

4. Sandwich quilt with batting and backing. Baste quilt layers together using your preferred method. Quilt as desired.

5. Create binding fabric using Fabric M 2 ¼” x WOF strips. (7 strips for Throw Size, 10 strips for Queen Size). Sew strips together end to end using a diagonal seam to create (1) long strip. Press the long strip in half widthwise with wrong sides of fabric together.

6. Attach binding using your preferred method to complete the quilt.
