Palamatic Vacuum Tube Lifting Innovations

Continuous development of vacuum tube lifting technology by Palamatic as we now enter the 30th year of the technology has seen recent developments of the SLine, Hi-Lift, Lite, Move & Lift and Container unloading applications. The S-Line lifter range has matured and all our customers and distributors are experiencing the performance and practical advantages of modular high performance componentry compatible with legacy designs.

The Palamatic SLine range has the widest configurable control options of any vacuum tube lifter manufacturer globally.

Development of the Palamatic Lite range has led to a new high vacuum flow valve which allows porous objects such as paper sacks to be successfully lifted using the Lite-Hand one handed configuration with high flow vacuum pumps. This development also opens up the possibilities for using the one handed valve on other S-Line applications where the valve can be supplied to fit directly onto the standard S-line control head as with all our other lever type valves.

We are proud to present our Move&Lift with integrated one handed Lite-Hand Lifter into our Touch 2 Move pallet truck handler as a warehouse and distribution order picker or batch assembler.

A further new development due to be completed by late 2015 is our Container Unloader system . This is a Patented machine designed to assist the operator when unloading containers in their docking station or at airports when handling baggage from container to conveyor. In conjunction with this project we are continuing to develop our options for low headroom applications in particular integrating the Lite-Hand Trigger valve to give optional ergonomic solutions for these applications.

1 EXCITING TIMES AT PALAMATIC! Continuous development ensures Vacuum Tube Lifting innovations

2 30 YEARS OF PALAMATIC Founder Stuart Bennison takes a

nostalgic look at the Palamatic roots

3 PALAMATIC MOVE & LIFT 500/24 cGMP materials handling solutions that can be relied upon.

4 EMPLOYEE FOCUS Francisco Chacon -

Sales & Support Engineer.

Palamatic was formed in the UK in 1985 by founder directors Sue and Stewart Bennison. The company’s original product line was sack opening machines. Palamatic’s first orders for sack openers came from the USA.

IF you didn’t know Palamatic is 30 years old. A word from the founders…

In 1985 Stewart travelled to Sweden to sign a contract to sell vacuum tube lifters and displayed the equipment at Conveyorex in Harrogate that year resulting in 250 enquiries and orders within a month. The introduction of vacuum tube lifting into the UK was a pivotal event for Palamatic ensuring rapid growth from year one of the business.

Palamatic soon were developing new end effectors for the range as the original manufacturer did not sell bespoke lifting solutions and also pioneered the use of double, triple and quadruple lift tube systems to increase the capacity of load that the lifters could deal with. Development of higher capacity lift tubes has now reduced the need for these.

Originally the business ran from a home office with assembly of product based in a factory unit in Yorkshire but soon took on rented units on the Derbyshire Trading Estate as business expanded.

With the help of a European Grant Palamatic invested in its own premises in 1992 on the same Industrial Estate and built the first Palamatic robotic system for Dupont, Belgium in the new premises.

The lifter marketplace has grown extensively since the introduction of vacuum tube lifting to the UK back in 1985 and the Palamatic brand still leads

the way with innovation at the forefront. This extensive range of handling solutions still gives Palamatic its highest level of sales from many industries including woodworking, food, agro-chemicals, paint, white goods and the oil industry. The latest development within the vacuum tube lifting line include the S-Line range, LITE, fork-lift and stacker truck mounted units, ATEX approved, container loading and unloading units and of course the unique Pharmavac suitable for hygienic process areas.

Continual development of the control valve, research into advanced materials such as plastics and fibreglass and vacuum flow technologies are under continual study in the factory research and development facility.

For Palamatic’s new Trading year starting April the main focus will be on developing the marketplace in the USA with Francisco Chacon moving out to join the team at Palamatic USA Inc in North Carolina to act as Technical Sales Support for our valued customers and distributors.

“It’s been a very interesting and enjoyable 30 years for Palamatic and we are very proud to reflect on the past three decades, our extensive product ranges and also all our employees and what we have achieved together.” Stewart Bennison - Chairman

The PML500/25 has a 1100lb (500kg) capacity to transfer pallets of materials which have been made into a batch or an order of materials. The PML500/25 is equipped with touch sensors which go where the operator wants without having to press a button, flip a lever, or steer a traditional rudder. The operator does not even have to change their normal stride as the machine will go where the operator wishes and stop when the operator wants, also without having to press a brake, hit a button or reverse a paddle.

The drive unit is programmable to speeds of a fast walk right down to inching precision for delicate or high value tasks. The PML500/25 drive is proven in rugged outdoor street environments and has a range of up to 10 miles between charges. Different wheels are available to suit the required environment.

The PML500/25 is equipped with a Palamatic Lite tube lifter to effortlessly lift parcels, packages, boxes, drums, or finished goods up to 55lb (25kg).

The operator drives the PML500/25 to the station to pick a package and turns on the vacuum pump, the operator can then effortlessly pick the package and place onto the pallet. The vacuum pump is then turned off and the operator drives to the next picking point. The PML500/25 has been designed to address health and safety concerns of the workforce in distribution and logistics centres. Further options are available on request.

Francisco joined Palamatic in May 2014, before joining us he worked for our Venezuelan distributor Ametrade. With a degree in Industrial Engineering Francisco spent 3 months on our factory floor learning the manufacturing processes that are used by all 3 of our divisions. More recently Francisco has been supporting the internal sales teams and developing key relationships with our partners in the Americas.

He is very much looking forward to the challenges ahead and will be working alongside Sue Bingley supporting our dealers, master dealers, business partners and customers in the USA.

The Palamatic LITE Vacuum Tube Lifter design is manufactured from 304 Stainless Steel as standard and incorporates a one handed operation. With the 100mm and 120mm diameter lift tubes , these lifters offer a range of capacity to lift between 11lb – 88lb.

The combined trigger valve, control head and suction foot assembly is light and easy to operate and has the benefit of all the standard Palamatic lifter safety features. When a load is gripped it cannot be released until it has landed and in case of a power failure will allow the load to be lowered carefully to the ground.

The new Palamatic LITE-HAND Trigger valve assembly is factory set to utilise an in-built assisted release to assist with the release of the load when landed. As an alternative to the above Palamatic can factory set the Trigger Valve for release when airborne i.e. without landing the product first for those processes that require a planned quick release such as parcels or other small loads onto a conveyor or into bins.

FEATURES OF THE UNIT

• A VACUUM GENERATOR that gives the speed of operation required at low noise levels and with just the right controlled flow.

• A LIFT TUBE that works in synchrony with the vacuum generator to produce the optimum performance.

• A control valve with TRIGGER operation and control head adaptors are designed that fits like a glove with instant response

Palamatic provide 2 types of LITE control, a standard LITE-HAND trigger valve assembly for general lifting purposes and for those high lift and/or long reach applications, a LITE-FLEX700 combined control head flexible handle with trigger valve assembly for lifting up to 8ft high.

A variety of end effectors are available with the LITE range, suitable for many lifting applications and is ideal for handling Cardboard Boxes, Wooden Boards, Sheet Metal, Plastic Sacks, Small Drums and Beer Kegs.
