FROM THE DESK
Our Honorary Investment Consul in Victoria Ayesha Bux
and a member from WA Sameera Nayeem both have lost
their fathers last week and we offer our condolences to the
families. This is a very difficult time for Muslim community in Australia as
it is once again singled out. We have been working closely with
other organisations and have also attended a meeting on last
Friday to come up with a strategy to deal with the fear that both
Muslim and non- Muslim Australians are feeling at the moment.
An event is also planned for 12th October within City of Perth
which we will participate. As soon as venue is finalized,
subscribers will be informed. This does mean that we will try to
send the next issue on 10th October.
On a positive note, there is a win for the ethnic communities as
the attempt to abolish non-contributory visa and other family
visa categories did not go through Senate.
Best Wishes and Eid Mubarak from the Group. While the cut off
date for Qurbani has passed for Edhi trust, you can still
contribute towards Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust Hospital’s
flood and IDP appeal.

AUSTRALIA DAY 2015
This is now the time to start planning for Australia Day event in Pakistan. Our initial planning is for
installation of water pumps as they provide access to clean water to the underserved areas which
prevents them from preventable diseases. We have been in touch with Child Health and Education
Foundation (CHAEF) which is the organisation that we have been collaborating since we started Australia
Day project. Hence our plan for next Australia Day Project is to work with CHAEF and we will see how we
go with raising funds. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute and if anyone wants to contribute
35,000 for one water pump which is about 350 Australian dollars, the person can get his/her name on the
plaque or can devote it to their beloved. Let us know and we can facilitate or else you can do it yourself.
From this issue we have permanently included the details of CHAEF in the newsletter.
PAKISTAN EVE CELEBRATIONS
We have submitted the grant for Pakistan EVE celebrations in 2015. This will be a different event than our
previous ones as we are planning to have an open, free evening with games, stalls and displays hopefully
from community members as well as performances so if you want to participate, perform or have any
other ideas let us know. Initially we planned the event during harmony week but it seems we will all be
busy with world cup cricket. The ICC world cricket cup final is planned for 21st March and hopefully it will
be played between Pakistan and Australia (fingers crossed), so the tentative date for the event is Saturday
28th March 2015.
ASIAN GAMES 2014 #bringmedalhome

HELD IN CANBERRA ON 18 SEPTEMBER 2014 &
PAKISTAN TO AUSTRALIA (16-20 SEPTEMBER 2014)
CANBERRA, 18 SEPT. 2014: The fifth meeting of Australia-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee (JTC) was held
in Canberra on 18 September 2014. Issues of Pakistan-Australia bilateral trade, trade policy, market
access, technical support and enhanced bilateral exchange of trade delegations were discussed.
It was agreed that Austrade and TDAP will collaborate closely for trade promotion activities. Australian
government offered aid for trade under the Country Assistance Programme for the strengthening of the
institutional capacity of the Ministry of Commerce and trade related private sector organisations of
Pakistan. Both sides agreed to continue technical cooperation in the areas of agriculture, engineering and
vocational training. They agreed to make use of various tools for market development including business-
to-business meetings, awareness seminars and exchange of delegations.
There was a consensus between the two
sides regarding challenges confronting the
global trade negotiations and the position
of Cairns Group on agriculture related
issues. It was agreed that all efforts would
be made to increase the bilateral trade
volume to one billion dollars by next year,
as the current trade volume was far below
the trade potential of the two countries.

trade and investments.
• It aims to reduce barriers to trade and investment between the two countries. Both countries will
increase strategic bilateral cooperation including, but not limited to, the areas of agribusiness, education
services, energy and resources, Heavy & Light Engineering (including services and equipment).
• Major component of this MoU is Protection of Investments in accordance with customary international
law, and subject to its laws applicable from time to time and to the particular circumstances of the host
State along with transparency of laws and regulations.
