About Pajama Program
Pajama Program provides new pajamas and new books to children in need, many of whom
are waiting for foster care or to be adopted. These children live in group homes, shelters
and temporary housing facilities and are shuffled often from one place to another. Many of
them have been abandoned, abused or neglected. Most of these children have never
enjoyed the simple comfort of having a parent tuck them in at bedtime with warm, clean
pajamas and a bedtime story. Some of the children are living with their families below the
poverty level, in desperate need of food, clothing and shelter. These two simple gifts of
pajamas and books let the children know that someone cares - sometimes these are the
only new things they have ever received.
Event Elements
Event Date: Kicking off “Danger Season” –
Event date is planned for Fall because “Danger Season” starts October 1st, when
temperatures around the country begin to drop. Many of the children we serve do
not have warm pajamas to sleep in on cold nights. They have no bedtime
storybooks.
Event Festivities: Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn
Activity tables and booths, food, beverages, music (possibly live DJ). Suggested activities include magicians, face
painting, photo booths and more. We are in talks with Chef Carla Hall for a post-walk reception at her restaurant.
Check In Table

Program stickers and/or tattoos will be distributed to everyone who checks in.

Who will be in Attendance?
Approximately 250 people will be walking. The target audience is corporate groups, families, and schools. We
expect participation from Pajama Program supporters, including corporate groups and individuals with a keen
interest in issues surrounding child welfare, literacy, foster care, child poverty, and homelessness. Our committed
Board Members, Young Professionals Group members together with loyal and new supporters.
Honored Hero
The honored hero is someone who had a real life understanding of what the children go through or experience. An
ideal honored hero would be someone who was “one of our children” and has overcome, an adoptive parent, or a
caregiver. This person and his/her story will serve to inspire everyone walking and motivate them to raise critical
funds.
