Please join us for this day full of updates for medical and surgical topics in Small Animal Medicine and Critical Care. We will provide both traditional lectures as well as case discussion on topics useful to your practice.
We would love to see you!
8:30 a.m. - Registration 9:00 a.m. - Lectures begin 6:00 p.m. - Lectures conclude
Managing diabetics: The not so sweet side of sugarDr. Amy DeClueWhile diabetes can be straightforward to manage, the challenging cases can be extremely frustrating. This lecture will review methods of troubleshooting and managing challenging diabetic patients.
Canine and feline transfusion reactions: What to do Dr. Meghan HarmonCanine and feline transfusion reactions are common in the small animal critical care setting. This lecture will provide the practitioner with the skills to identify transfusion reactions and the key to managing reactions successfully.
Surgical intervention for respiratory distress Dr. F. A. “Tony” MannSome cases of respiratory distress require urgent sur-gical intervention. Unresolvable upper airway obstruc-tion may dictate temporary tube tracheostomy, tracheal trauma may require tracheal resection and anastomo-sis, pneumothorax unresolvable by thoracocentesis may necessitate a thoracostomy tube, and diaphragmatic hernia may need emergent herniorrhaphy to improve respiration. This presentation will discuss these sur-gical interventions with emphasis on technique and pointers to facilitate efficient and effective application.
Sneaky creatures: Vector borne infections of dogs and cats Dr. Leah CohnWe will always have plenty of ectoparisites in Missouri, and that means plenty of vector-borne disease. This lecture will cover some common and not-so common vector-borne diseases of interest to our practice area.
Feline urinary obstruction: Challenging complications Dr. Marie Kerl Blocked cats present commonly on emergency, but are often complicated cases. This lecture will present the problem cats and present recent literature about causes of repeat obstruction, urinary infections, and when to perform PU surgery.
How dysphagia hurts the lung: An overview of cough-swallow disordersDr. Carol ReineroEsophageal disease is a very common cause of cough in people. While these disorders occur in pets, they are very difficult to diagnose. This lecture will identify presenting signs of cough-swallow disorders as well as diagnostic and treatment methods.
