UNIFORM SHOP

Our lovely parent volunteers will open the uniform shop on Thursday 14 February at 9.15am. Uniform orders can be left at the

office at any time with correct money. Our parent volunteers will fill the orders when they can. For new uniform shop order form

can be obtained from the office. There is also a large selection of second hand uniforms for sale.

For the benefit of new parents, the Uniform Shop opens every second Thursday from 9.15 to 9.45am. The price list and order

forms are on the school website or at the office. You are welcome to drop your orders at the front office as the uniform

volunteers will fill orders and call you for collection. Please allow a few days for the order to be returned to the front office.

A reminder that summer uniform will be worn from Monday to Thursday during Term 1 and sports uniform on Fridays. As part of correct uniform, all children must wear the correct Pagewood school cap. Navy socks are worn all week. The embroidered sport shorts, should be worn only on Fridays. It is important that shoes are all black on Monday to Thursday.

TEXTBOOK PURCHASES Once payment was made, students collected their textbooks last Friday. There was an issue with online payments that were

made the day before, these textbooks are being held in the office and will be distributed to students this week. If you have not

yet paid for your child’s textbooks please do so.

OUT OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE (OOSH) TENDER PROCESS The tender process for the contract for the OOSH at Pagewood Public School will begin very soon. The process requires that the

parent and carer community is represented on the panel. I have asked the P&C to elect a representative at their meeting this

week. In addition, another parent representative is permitted to be on the panel as well as a staff representative. The process is

convened by an Assets Services Officer from the NSW Department of Education and requires at least two meeting times during

the school day in the next few weeks. If you are interested in nominating yourself to be the additional parent representative please

send an email to Ms Mayhew via the school email address [email protected] by Tuesday 5 February 2019.

GATES You may have noticed that the gate next to the Kiss n Ride drop off zone is almost ready. We are hoping all works will be

completed by the end of Week 3. This will allow students to walk into the school at this drop off point rather than near the

carpark. A new entrance to the school office is being completed which will ensure all visitors during the day will have to go

through the office. Works that were planned with Mr Tan continue to be completed and we look forward to increasing the

safety of students at school.

ATTENDANCE It is important for students to arrive at school on time and be present for every lesson. Pagewood Public School begins lesson at

9:15am each day. If your child is absent from school you are required to provide a reason for the absence. To explain an absence

please send a note or email to your child’s teacher or the school [email protected] on the day of return. If

your child is absent for more than two days please contact the school to let them know.

RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION Scripture classes are run by volunteers from relevant churches. The religious instruction groups are: Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Jewish, Buddhist, Ethics (Years 5 & 6 at this stage) and non-scripture. Classes are held on Tuesday mornings, from 9:20-9:55am. Scripture starts on 12th February.

Only students with written permission notes will be placed in Scripture groups that differ from last year. Kindergarten students and new students will be placed according to information on enrolment forms.

MOVING INTO YEAR 7

Students in Year 6 will next week receive an

expression of interest form for a place in

Year 7 in a NSW Government School. Please

speak to your child’s teacher if you have any

questions. If you need assistance to

complete the form please contact Ms

Mayhew through the school office.

Completed expressions of interest are due

to Pagewood PS by Tuesday 19 March.

To all our current and new families, if your child has been identified as having Asthma, Anaphylaxis or any other medical condition,

a CURRENT Asthma/Anaphylaxis Plan or Medical Plan must be provided to the school for the 2019 year. This Asthma/Anaphylaxis

form must be obtained and signed by the family Doctor. In addition, we ask that if your child requires Ventolin/other medication

at school, it must be kept in the school office. Please ensure that medication provided to the school has a valid expiry date. Please

also advise the school if there are any changes regarding your child/ren health care plans. Note: These plans need to be updated

annually. We kindly request that if the above applies to your child/ren that these plans/medications be brought in by Monday

11 February 2019.

STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT

Statement of Accounts will be sent out in Week 3. To pay your child’s ‘Statement of Account’, it is helpful to the school if Parents

and Carers use the Parent Online Payment (POP) system. This is to reduce the amount of cash being handled at school by students

and staff. To pay by POP, please go to the Pagewood Public School website at http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au and

select ‘Make a payment’. Parents and Carers are welcome to pay for two or more children in one payment. If you wish to pay by

NEWSLETTER

A reminder to all our new parents that our newsletter is the main form of communication of what is happening in our school.

The newsletter is posted on our website from 4:00pm pm every Monday. You can view it on our website from that time every

week.

PERMISSION TO PUBLISH

Please read and sign the attached ‘Permission to Publish’ note for 2019 to your child’s class teacher. This note is also available at

the office.

SAFETY IN THE PLAYGROUND

For families new to our school, some reminders about a few safety procedures:

The school playground is not the place for any toys such as scooters, bikes, skateboards or in-line skates. This includes before

and after school and at school functions which may occur at the weekend or in the evening.

The play equipment can only be used by the children at lunchtimes, not before and after school.

In accordance with the Companion Animals Act, dogs are not permitted on school property at any time, whether or not they

are on a leash. Nor should dogs be brought to any school activity at another venue, including sports.

No parent is permitted to speak with someone else’s child in a disciplinary manner. Any difficulties with a child other than your

own must be referred to a teacher.

When using the pedestrian crossing when the supervisor is on duty, please wait until they have stopped the traffic before you

start to cross.

Parents are not permitted to drive into the school grounds at any time.

Please do not do a U-turn across the double lines in Page St outside the school.

All visitors and volunteers must sign in at our office and wear a badge while on the school site.

P&C (PARENTS AND CITIZENS) NEWS

Pagewood Public School P&C always welcomes enthusiastic members. It’s a great way to get involved and help out at the school.

Throughout the year, the P&C meets at 7:00pm in the school library on the first Tuesday of every month during the school term.

The first meeting is next Tuesday 5 February at 7.00pm. Each meeting is announced in the school newsletter; we have about 8-

10 meetings a year. At our P&C meetings, a range of topics are discussed, including:

Updates from the Principal

Fundraising initiatives

Father’s Day/Mother’s Day stalls (and finding volunteers to run them!)

School programs

Allocation of P&C funds towards school programs

Special morning teas or events

Uniform Shop- run by the P&C onsite at school

Market Carnival- bi-annual event

The P&C meetings also provide a forum for parents to be able to raise questions and respectfully make suggestions about the

school for discussion. The agenda for each meeting is available the week prior.

At the P&C Annual General Meeting (the second meeting of the year) the voluntary positions of office bearers, or the executive -

President, Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer are voted in. To be eligible to vote, or take up a position on the executive at

the AGM, you must be a member of the P&C. If you are not already a P&C member, you must pay the membership fee by the

close of the general meeting, a month before the AGM to be able to take up a position or to vote at the AGM. Membership lasts

from one AGM to the next, and is currently set at $1 per year. Financial members have voting rights at the AGM, but also for any

issues or decisions that are made at the meetings throughout the year. This includes the selection of a P&C financial member to

be the representative on any merit selection panel (for the hiring of teaching or administrative staff). You can join the P&C at any

meeting throughout the year, your voting rights will be established at the next meeting after you join.

An active P&C is at the heart of a great school, and we always strongly encourage parents to get involved at Pagewood Public

School. Being involved in the P&C offers you an opportunity to get to know other like-minded parents. You can be involved by

joining the P&C and attending meetings, volunteering for the various fundraisers or events throughout the year, and by supporting

the efforts of the P&C.

When you support the P&C, you support improvements for the school, the teachers and most

importantly, your children.

Please see P&C Agenda on the next page
